Makoto Takatsuki has proven worthy of his title as the Hero of Roses—not only did he save Macallan from a stampede of monsters and a powerful ancient dragon, but he also liberated Cameron from a blighted hydra. After those battles, Makoto hopes to catch a break, but a revelation from the goddesses sends him on the path to Springrogue. There are rumors that the Great Demon Lord’s resurrection might appear in the perilous Forest of Fiends, and Makoto’s party sets off to investigate. They make a stop in Lucy’s home village to meet her family, and they’re even lucky enough to encounter Lucy’s mother, the famed and powerful Crimson Witch! This comes not a moment too soon—one of the Great Demon Lord’s subordinates, Bifrons, the Undead King, is amassing an army of demons to lay waste to Springrogue. The stage is set, and the demons have launched their war against humanity. Can Makoto and his allies send the Undead King back to his grave?

Plot still good, battle pretty and interesting twists

But again, another 3 start due to the fact that (as usual) the females in Makoto’s life are territorial cardboard characters, , who only didn’t eat and shop their way through this book because we were doing recon and battles for most of it. But between that, we had to deal with the whole ‘he’s mine, get your hands off and stop flirting’ crap.

That said, since it doesn’t seem Fujiyan’s wives will be explaining the harem dynamic to Makoto’s women any time soon…. * more sigh*

The battle was good, and I’m wondering how many more surprises Isaac will whipp out. I’m wondering how much the new guy will come into play and if Lucy’s mom will keep popping in na out of the story from here on out. I’m looking forward to Great Keith next volume (other than the deserts will be more of a chance for those ever-thirsty ladies to make things difficult.

(And just to be clear, I don’t have a problem with a harem. It’s the girls playing nice and then trying to treat him like property and getting mad at him for the other girls’ actions is not fun for me. Your mileage may vary. But I am enjoying the plot when Lucy and Sasa aren’t in the scene, so I’m definitely going to finish this :) )

Makoto and friends travel to Lucy's home town as per the request of the goddess Eire. It seems somebody is trying to revive the demon lord buried in the nearby forest/dungeon. What follows is some light-hearted interaction with Lucy's family (her mother in particular) and everybody dealing with a lethal demonic threat.

Much like earlier volumes, I like how it is both light-hearted but with a bit of darker undertone in that demons are actual demons, gods (even those working with the MC) are manipulative liars and the MC while very strong is hardly the biggest fish in the pond. At its core it is still fairly stereotypical isekai setting, but it does have more depth than most and is more interesting as a result. Now if only the harem antics were a bit less irritating. I mean, we all know all will likely end up with the MC so why do we go for the tropes usually associated with the only one girl wins in the end harem? Just go for it so that we can focus on more interesting things.

Still, it was an entertaining read. Really curious in what direction the author is going to take the story now that according to his own words he is about half way in the story.
