Emily

Being the sweet, popular girl next door with a family name everyone knows isn't always what it's cracked up to be. In fact, I'm starting to crumble under the pressure of the facade. I tried to be perfect. I tried to be what I thought everyone wanted, but in the end it only left me lonely. They think they know me. They think they see me, but no one really does. The one person I thought did—my brothers best friend—walked away in the end. I shouldn't be surprised. I always seem to be left alone.

Chase

She thinks I don't see her, when all I've ever seen is her. Her forced smiles and laughter are slowly driving me insane as I bide my time. I want to make them real. I want my girl back. I don’t care what bridges I have to burn to have her. I’ll spend my life proving to her I’m never going anywhere. That I’m the one person she can always count on. In the end, I’ll win, and she will be mine.

I really liked this brother's best friend turned lover. It was kinda fast paced. I was hoping there's more on how the h trying to work out on her issues. But, I kinda dig the whole family-warmth and love-prevailed kinda thing. It was sweet romance, suitable with the whole thanksgiving and Christmas vibe.

Dual virgin
No condoms
Dual PoV, 1st person
No angst
Bit (teeny weeny) drama with h's mom
No cheating, No OW/OM
Safe read, HEA, epilogue
Overall score: 4 solid love prevails stars

Loved!

Read 2: Still a great read. I wasn’t as upset with Chase this time as I was last time. Plus, a virgin hero saving himself for her? Yes please!

This was a really great read by Lucy Darling. At first I was annoyed with Chase for rejecting Emily even though she was young but I liked that she really made him work for it. She didn’t just go falling back into his arms the second he thought the time was right to claim her. This one is going on the reread shelf.

The couple: Chase and Emily

Romance trope: best friend's brother
Series: Sweetest
Length: 123 pages

Plot: Emily has loved Chase forever, and when she was younger, she spent a lot of time at his house. But when she confessed her love to him, he told her very clearly that she was too young for him, so she left and never went back. He figured out that he really does love her, but is it too late?

Commentary: Such a dilemma! Of course, she really was too young - he couldn't be in a relationship with her when she was a minor child, and it would be reasonable to assume she was too young to know if she was really in love, having no experience herself. So what Chase didn't wasn't mean or unforgivable in any way. On the other hand, it was funny that Chase's parents told him (in a roundabout way) that he would realize she was the one for him someday.
This was a cute book, especially as a follow-up to Sweetest Obsession.

Previous book in the series: Sweetest Obsession

Preface

Brother’s best friend and best friend’s little sister. This one is told parallel from /Sweetest Obsession/. While it was good it was not as great as the previous one. I liked the H and h together, even if the h could be stubborn at times.

————————————————————————————
RATINGS:

Plot : 1.5 📚💫 Sprinkled around. The mother of the h causes additional drama. Rumors spread like wildfire leading to misinterpretations of the relationship between the H and h.

World Building(Immersion): 1.5 🌎💫 Submerged my feet.

Angst : ❎ No angst.

Funniness: 1.5 🌝💫 Amused. The familial relationships really shone on this one.

Scariness: ❎ Not scary.

Romance: 3 💖💖💖 Aw, it was cute.

Spice: 3.5 🌶🌶🌶💫 Blushing potential

Goriness: ❎ No gore.

Sadness: ❎ No sadness.

Overall star rating : 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly enjoyable.

🚨🚨🚨MILD SPOILERS 🚨🚨🚨

The Talking Place:

▫️ I was glad that a heroine for once had the common sense of dropping her phone and getting a new one when going “into hiding”. It took the H a while to find her. Yet the moment he was done with the hiding act, she was delivered promptly to him like a nice Amazon package.

Romance Safety:

Safe. Dual virgins! The H waited for h. He was a bit older and they grew up together. He waited for her to be out of high school (the h was almost 19 when they got together). The H had a nice outlook on love, which resulted from seeing his parents marriage, another reason why he saved himself for his future wife. He though it would be the deepest connection connection and show of devotion he could muster (ngl when I read that I swooned a bit 💆‍♀️). There was some slight OW and OM drama but neither the h or H cared to entertain other people. In fact, I liked the way the hero was ruthless with it. Epilogue: they are happily married, with 2 kids and another on the way.

3 stars. None of this book would have happened if the hero had actually attempted to have a conversation with the heroine. Instead he did everything in his power to keep her in the dark and totally clueless about his intentions. There’s a three week separation near the end and I was hoping she would go meet someone else… someone who knows how to communicate. 🥴🫣

Safe; both virgins

My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.

Emily has been in love with her brother’s best friend Chase since she was a young girl. Her home life was terrible, they are super rich but her mother hated her and her father was always busy. Her brother Asher and Chase would let her hang with them and Chase’s mom became like a mom to her. Chase always thought of Emily as his best friends little sister, so when she tells him she loves him he breaks her heart by telling her she’s to young to know love. He has been told his whole life to wait for true love, like his parents and he doesn’t think a young underage Emily is it. Heartbroken she distances herself from him and his family, she feels lost, her mother doesn’t love her and she lost Chase’s mother. To compensate she throws herself into every activity imaginable, she gets good grades and keeps to busy to be sad and miss Chase. Things get better when her father marries, she likes her new stepmother and stepsister, who’s also a senior in high school. Meanwhile Chase sees a grown up Emily and realizes that she is his one true love, but Emily has closed herself off from him. He pursues her hard. When her mother contacts her out of the blue she agrees to see her and she talks Emily into a girls trip to Paris. Needing to distance herself from Chase and the rumors of his impending engagement she agrees to the trip. Before she leaves she decides to have sex with Chase one time. She heads to his place and they have their first time together, dual virgins. The next morning Asher calls (we now merge storylines with Sweetest Obsession, where Molly overhears Asher accusing her mom of stealing.) waking them and doesn’t let on the Emily is with him. Knowing Molly is hurting Emily leaves to be with her. She and Molly talk and she leaves the next day for Paris. She doesn’t tell the men in her life she’s with her mother and the men don’t tell her that her mother has been stealing from the family. When Interpol comes to arrest her mother she is hurt and further devastated when her mother tells her she is illegitimate. Now she feels even more lost but Chase is done with waiting and not knowing where is is he gets his security team on it and has her plane rerouted home. He meets her at the airfield and confesses she’s the rumored fiancé and he loves her and that he was a virgin too. Lots of shocks for Emily. Epilogue with them married and with several kids. No one pursed the claim that she is illegitimate. Her father says she is his daughter and everyone goes with it. I wish they had tested and she was in fact his daughter, she has felt lost and unworthy her whole life this would have given her added sense of peace and belonging.

I was disappointed in this book but for a minor reason that probably wouldn’t bother anyone else. The FMC was strong and I liked her attitude that she basically handled everything herself. Even if she was wallowing she was still involved in things and had social skills and wasn’t off in a corner somewhere feeling sorry for herself. The conflict between the main couple was so silly as to be ridiculous but it was a reasonable situation. He was older than her but this book makes it seem like there was a large age gap but it’s never confirmed.

What annoyed me was when the FMC was told she might not be her father’s daughter, the FMC then didn’t do a dna test. I would have loved it better if they had done it and then were still family to each other. I felt like it was a burying your head in the sand kind of scenario. Or if they did the test and she was his daughter despite what the wicked mother had said to her that would have been perfect! But no. The author just glossed this over with a “she’s my daughter”, from the dad who from the entire lead up to this scene in the story was apparently a pretty shitty parent all of the FMC’s life. So I didn’t like this ending.

Lastly, I read this book out of order. It doesn’t say part of a series in the title or book 2 at the very least so I feel like it ruined book 1’s story for me now.

So anyway, there was a few things I didn’t like and a lot of things I did but I was left feeling unsatisfied with it. Good luck.

Emily Score & Chase Silverstein

If you like Alexia Riley you'll most likely like this.

I was never really sure of the age difference between Emily and Chase, just that she was graduating high school and about to turn 19, and that he is her older brother's best friend.

Overall, I thought the story was good. It was short and to the point and it didn't leave me lacking at the end. There were a couple of errors, but it didn't take away from the story itself.

okay

Though the bones of the story were good, I sincerely disliked Emily. She was childish and selfish, only thinking of herself and never asking for information or clarification. I generally really like this authors characters so I was disappointed in this one, and she tanked the story for me.

I have to say that I REALLY enjoyed this story.

This wasn't something that crazy original but it got me really curious and entertained while I was reading.

I also enjoyed the characters and they were really hot together as a couple 👀

°Virgin heroine (18)
°Virgin H
°Dual POV
°No OM drama
°No real OW drama
°3 week separation
°She pushed him away
°OTT alpha hero
°What I didn't like: the h heard rumors that the H was engaged and she still slept with him, obviously it was all a misunderstanding but I hated that she didn't ask him if he was really engaged before having sex with him:
°Epilogue: several years later -married with 2 kids and another on the way

Poor Emily.
On the outside, Emily seems to have everything a teenage girl could want.
But inside, she just wants to be loved. After having a mother just up and leave her and actually hate her for just being born has left a scar on her heart. But now watching her brother and newest step-sister fall head over heels for each other, she's acutely aware that she doesn't seem to have the kind of love she craves.
Chase has always been the one that she thought she could count on. She's always had feelings for him and he seemed to see the real Emily that nobody else takes the time to learn. But misunderstandings has Emily fed up with always being the one left behind and unloved.
But Chase isn't just going to let his woman go. He's waited long enough for her to finally graduate and he's ready to claim what he's known was his for years.

Chase and Emily were sweet when they finally got together. He was 5 years older than her, basically grew up with Emily and watched her to become a woman (not yet really she was 18).

Although both of the books in this series made me quite uncomfortable at first because what would a 23 yo guys would do with 18 yo senior high students?

Anyway, I got past that both men in each book were so obsessed with their FMC. It was comical reading them being territorial caveman over hs students 😂

Overall, both books in the series made me laugh, whether it was because of the ridiculous plot or just the antics of the male leads. One thing is for sure both guys were so head over heels and over the top with their women.

Chase is 5 years older than Emily now 18 and 23, she previously confessed that she liked him and he told her she was too young for him, he calls her little girl which she hates as it is a reminder of the rejection

Chase however does have secret feelings for her. He is her brother’s best friend, at first it was just sister like until it wasn’t

She sleeps with him thinking he is engaged, I would of confronted him if that was me.

Emilys mother is the worst, how can you be jealous of your own child, I feel bad for Emily as chases mother was like a mother to her until she confessed her feelings to Chase and never went around their house again so she lost not just Chase

Chase and Emily were hot together, chases dirty mouth even though they were both virgins

Chase and Emily were sweet together but some things annoyed me. Overall the story was okay but some things annoyed me….like the fact that he is a virgin and waited for her but she is almost 19 when he randomly decides to make his move so if she had anything to do with it why not do something when she turned 18. I liked Sweetest Obsession better.

POV: Dual, 1st person.
SERIES or STANDALONE: Standalone. Other book Sweetest Obsession is interconnected.
TROPES: M/F adult/new adult, brothers best friend romance.
SIZE: 112 (last page) Kindle pages.

PLOT: 📚📚📚/5
ROMANCE: ❤️❤️❤️❤️/5
SPICE/STEAM: 🌶🌶.5/5
DARKNESS/TRIGGERS: N/A

This is absolutely one of my favorite books I’ve read so far this year. Chase and Emily were actual people that jumped off the page.

I cannot get enough of friends to lovers at the moment plus this had heroine x brother’s-best-friend which is also a great trope if done well. And I think Lucy Darling played it so well by leaving Chase’s she ambiguous so not to lean too heavily into the taboo.

The way that Chase’s and Emily’s love organically grew from Emily’s first confession as a young teen to Chase watching the woman she grew into from the sidelines.

I loved this and this will be something I compare other novellas to in the future. This is a definite re-read!!

Cute once it gets going…

This is a short and fairly sweet story, where the FMC is younger than the MMC, and he tells her she’s too young for him. That breaks her heart, and because her father has a new wife, she feels pretty alone. Her brother doesn’t like the new wife, even though he doesn’t really know her, and starts taking long trips leaving her even more along.

That’s basically where it starts, and there are some twists later on, but this is a good average storyline. Not fantastic, but not terrible. I liked it fine…

KU read, more teen and young adult genre. It’s okay.

Emily and Chase

Very sweet and heartwarming read. Emily has been in love with Chase, her brother's best friend since she can remember. When she confessed her love as a young girl, he broke her heart. So, she built a wall around her heart and kept herself busy so she wouldn't think about it. But he started to try to get closer to her and she doesn't know what to make of it. The only thing she knows is that she won't be letting him into her heart again.
Or will she? Highly recommended

Her brother's book was wayyy better than this one...
this one i was barely able to finish it to be honest.

2.5 stars more likely.

I disliked Emily most of the times

I didn't agree at the end, they needed to do a DNA test.

I think the reasons of this push and pull was stupid, they needed more built up and connection

I was really annoyed that half of the book was a repeat of what happened in the first one but from Chase and Emily's side. It didn't add anything worth to not give them a proper background.

I was disappointed , i needed more from this read.

- 3 weeks seleration

This was super cheesy and fun, but honestly, a little communication and everything would have been solved many years ago. But still, he’s all in and so sweet.

3 weeks separation where she goes to Paris with her bio mother, and needs time to think.

Overall, no owd, he’s all in in every way. She thinks his promised to marry another woman, but its just something his mother said, and her reasons are so adorable😍

Novella

Emily and Chase

She confessed her crush years ago but she is younger and he sort of brushed her off. Also she is his best friend’s sister. As she grows up he realizes that his feelings for her are very deep - she is his forever. He waits until she is graduating high school to make his move. He’s a virgin too - in his pants. He saves himself for her. And he isn’t very direct with his feelings - just calling her baby girl all if a sudden and saying she belongs to him. He isn’t normally so bossy but in the bedroom they both like it.

Hea - pregnant 2 girls and baby boy on the way

He’s Always Loved Her

Chase has always loved her. When they were younger, he thought of her as a sister and a friend, but as she’s gotten older, he’s been loving her in a whole different way. He wants her to choose him. To be his forever. He’s been waiting for her practically since day one. He just didn’t know it.

Good /great read. Poor Emily had everything money could buy but still was lonely. A mother who didn’t want her, a brother who loved her but wasn’t around and her brother’s best friend whom Emily had a crush on since she was young. No one saw the real Emily but Chase did. Good/great read.

Chase has been obsessed with Emily for years. Too bad she is his best friends sister. Chase has been biding his time till she graduates high school to make her his. Too bad he broke her heart years ago.

I loved how Chase chased her and did all these things in the background to make Emily his. Another great read from Lucy!

I am so excited to get Chase and Emily’s story - the other half of this saga! It definitely lived up to the suspense of waiting for it. I adore this Emily’s family and now I’m loving Chase’s family. It took them a while to get it figured out but Chase and Emily really are perfect for each other. So good!
