We've had this book kicking around the house for a long time now. I expected the stories to be engaging and funny as well as adventurous. I read the first three or four and found them lacking. They were set in far-flung areas of the world, but nothing very noteworthy ever seemed to happen in any of them and the writing didn't pull me in at all. No joking, no irony, not even any one-liners. I even gave it the page-99 test. Still nothing. Giving up.

Some cool stories but the earlier "First Twenty Years" collection is superior.
