Yuri Tama Light Novel #2

Yuri Tama: From Third Wheel to Trifecta The Second

Rate this book
Yotsuba Hazama has it made. Summer vacation is just around the corner, and this year she gets to spend it with her two girlfriends, Yuna and Rinka! Sure, she’ll spend it doing makeup lessons instead unless she passes all her finals, but how hard could that be? And her girlfriends’ fan club is a ticking time bomb in the background of her school life, but it’s not like that has any chance of causing her problems! And, yes, her little sisters have been treating her with an inexplicable mixture of contempt and suspicion lately, but there’s no way that’ll go anywhere unpleasant!

On second thought, let’s start Yotsuba Hazama is in way over her head! Her first-ever summer with her new girlfriends is in peril of flunking-induced cancellation, her social standing at school is dangling by a thread, and she can’t even figure out what’s wrong with her relationship with her sisters, but it’s definitely going to be a problem! Who knew having two girlfriends could be this difficult?!

I thought the first book was a great read, and this one rated slightly higher in several ways. Personally, I’m a fan of Yotsuba’s hyperbolic though process (it’s over-the-top, but relatable), and her phrasing got a solid number of laughs out of me.

Also, holy crap, I can’t believe the author didn’t “pull back” on a particular plot point we’ve been building up to that I was *sure* was going to get a “haha, just kidding” or “here’s some mitigating factors, so it’s not what it looks like…” elements. Props to the author on that follow through without trying to swerve away. Dang.

Couldn’t even finish it. It was going on a good track and then they had to throw in incest with her sisters. This was definitely written by a pervy man

Pros:
More focus on Yotsuba and her dating, more fun yuri action, more time spent away from Yotsuba as an individual and instead spent with the three girls together and as separate couples. Better handling of that weird fan club President and less weird fan club nonsense. Requisite pool trip for the characters.

Cons:
Yotsuba is still insufferable when she’s alone and lost in her thoughts. There’s a weird sister angle for a portion of the story that doesn’t add anything. The whole fact that Yotsuba’s sisters are this opinionated about their elder sister’s dating life just feels like drama for the sake of drama.

This was much better than the first instalment but it still doesn’t reach the same standards as other (better) yuri stories. Still, it’s more enjoyable and there’s now hope for a better conclusion in volume three.

(Read at JNC prepublishing)

The inevitable happens. Yotsuba's sisters learn of her two-timing and they are not too happy about it. Their anger sets Yotsuba into a panic, and a panicking Yotsuba can jump in odd directions. For me the book was quiet entertaining, if a bit predictable. It is much like volume 1, although the sisters take a bit of a more prominent role. In itself not bad, but for a few pages it took a rather odd turn, which was completely unnecessary and I am happy the story did not go down that path.
