Just because it’s always been that way doesn’t mean it’s right…
Vampire society is dominated by men. Women are tools to be used to gain them power… Mates have always been chosen for us. My father is the advisor for the king, and he wants me to be with the prince. But he’s not the only game in town. It’s about time my desires were heard. I’m about to change all that… I know who I want. I’m tired of having to follow the rules, especially at Red Rose Academy. We’re supposed to just work on our supernatural beauty, but we’re not just beauty queens. We’re warriors. It’s time that women take a stand. The first rebellion is about to begin… Women have never been able to compete at the Academy Games. But this year, we will. I have drawn the line in the sand. We’re powerful. We’re strong. We’re vampires.
Get ready for a shake down at Red Rose Academy where men will see us in a new light and like it
M Guida has always loved fantasy and romance, especially dragons. Growing up, she devoured fantasy books and all kinds of young adult books. And then she found romance and a whole new world opened up to her.
Now as an adult, she fell in love with academy romance and has blended all of her past loves into one compelling series. Dragons, vampires, elves, demons, and shifters all attend Legacy Academy.
When she's not writing, she lives in the colorful Rocky Mountains with her fur baby, Raven, and enjoys taking her for walks.

We follow the story of Rose Allen, a young woman with strong ideas who’s living in a patriarchal society. Rose wants to break free of the male dominance that has shackled her her entire life. Oh, and she’s also a vampire, born in one of the well known vampire lines. Her father is a misogynist vampire that believes Rose’s only purpose in life is to be meek and obedient, as he tries to arrange her marriage with the vampire prince, Rocco. Rose has other plans though, as she only has eyes for the forbidden vampire, Valentin, from a ruined family line.
I love the forbidden romance trope, specially if combined with the love triangle 👀😈 i did feel at times like the characters behaved very childish and whiny, but this is strongly due to the sexist society of the vampires which forces women to behave a certain way. My favorite element was that Rose was trying to change things and has female empowerment ideas for the vampire society. Her father is truly villainous and I was rooting the entire time for his demise 😂😂
Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy for review
And believe me, this one ends in a really big one! I love the academy books but I really love it when familiar characters appear. This is a really good book. I was going to wait until another one came out but I couldn't help myself. I started it this morning and just finished it this evening. I recommend this book to anyone who loves academy stories or just loves vampires.
I was reading a really smutty book and realized I was embarrassed, so I switched to this one. I love bully academy romance with a FMC who overcomes the challenges to find her inner strength and love at the same time.
The Abuse: I was surprised there was so much bullying, though. This is not the lite version. Rose is beaten at least twice by her overbearing father, a king’s advisor, and relentlessly told by staff and other students to conform to dress and moral standards before they even start chatting with her. Her roommate/spy for another close confidante of the king (or her father, who knows?) is so determined to steal her friend, Prince Rocco, that she becomes Rose’s worst nightmare. It is hard to read long enough to see the turnaround in Rose’s character.
I do love Rose’s character: she acts cowed and mousey, which is consistent with her early abuse. I just cannot imagine someone snarky and overconfident after years of beatings and vocal put-downs.
The Plot: Rose may have grown up in the privileged uppercrust of vampire society, but there lie monsters. Rules, set roles for women in society that don’t involve crop tops or flirting in public. Her father wants her to marry Prince Rocco. While he has been a perennial friend and thinks she is his mate, Rose is attracted to a different male who is shunned by his classmates. His own family murdered humans, and he is guilty by association. As the semester goes on, Rose finds out she has strong powers that may intimidate her father, but both Rocco and Valentin (not so hidden meaning, here 😃) support her, heal her, and...well, vie over her. Really, I feel so bad for Rocco because she keeps looking over him for Valentin. I don’t blame her; who would want to lust over someone forced upon her by her father? But still, he doesn’t deserve her mistreatment of his feelings.
The plot is much better than the writing style, which is characteristic of M. Guida: it feels young adult even though the material is darker and more complicated than I would expect for the writing. It’s a clean, direct style of writing that lends to a faster read. The only real criticism for us dark bully academy romance lovers is the constant reminder of how much she wants to buck social convention. It gets old.
Single POV, F/M/M ⁃ Clean romance (kisses only) ⁃ Two beatings ⁃ Black cat familiar ⁃ Bats in the belfry (ha ha) ⁃ Attempted murder
Red Rose Academy is one of the books that kept me company right before the holidays. It was such an enjoyable, fast read about vampires attending an academy where they learn things like magic, and combat, and potions... well, at least the guys do. The girls, instead, are forced in the middle ages and have to learn things that will allow them to be the best partners for their future mates.
Of course Rose, the protagonist, doesn't stand for that, and fights to change things for herself and her fellow ladies, all the while fearing her father’s wrath. He's a horrible, violent man, set in his ways, and he's quite terrifying too. So while watching Rose trying to change things at the academy is empowering, one couldn’t help but feel her fear of her father. Her scenes with him were not easy to read. I was equally heartbroken and enraged for the physical abuse Rose had to suffer.
Of course one of my favorite elements is the potential romance with two vampire hotties: Rocco, prince of vampires, and Valentin, son of a traitor. As of now Rose seems to be leaning more towards one but I think they both have an equal chance. Honestly I don't know who to root for. They both have reasons I like them with Rose and reasons why I’d prefer the other.
Thank you to the author for gifting me an e-copy. Opinions are my own.
I'm a vampire lover and this book definitely sparked my love for the creatures all over again. This world is ran by vampires and the women are basically pretty trophies. Except our FMC goes against the norm.
It took me awhile to connect with Rose, but I still appreciated her characterization. This book also ends on a cliffhanger, so be warned! Overall, I'm excited to see where this goes.
I really enjoyed this book. It was decently passed, I was able to connect with the characters. The female lead was had equally strong and weak points, and it was refreshing not to have her be the GOAT with her suddenly being the best at everything.
The reason for only 4 stars as opposed to 5 is there there are a decent amount of grammatical errors, including not being able to decide how to spell one of the character’s names, saying “last but least instead” or “she could care less”. Also, the author has some story inconsistencies such that Prince Rocco is not set to inherit the crown yet mentions several times “he acts as if he’s already king” Or “she acts like she’s queen already”; also things such as someone took Turkey for their meal but are now eating prime rib… The one last con for this book is that the author makes our female lead drool over her other series’ female lead. It was to the point where she said her name so much, I was ready to scream.
Overall, I greatly enjoyed reading this first installment, and I definitely will be continuing with the series.
Loved this one! This is perfect for lovers of paranormal romance, academy setting, love triangles, and slow burn.
This is the story of Rose a young vampire living in a world dominated by men. Especially her father having old school traits and wanting his daughter to follow the traditions. He is horrible but Rose slowly comes out of her shell and seeks that freedom that she knows she and her friends deserve. I absolutely loved her character development!
The academy setting reminded me a bit of vampire academy and the magic was a great inclusion. This is the second book I read by Guida and I have to say I am hooked! I look forward to reading the next book after that cliffhanger!
Huge thanks to the author for gifting me a copy. All opinions are my own.
I loved it! It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This a slow burn story filled with friends to lovers, a love triangle, forbidden romance, and fated mates. A story that twists the vampire mythos into a tale of forbidden love, hidden powers, and dark secrets. With a strong heroine called Rose Allen, who defies societal norms. It has compelling love interests, and a deeply immersive supernatural school setting. It's an electrifying journey you don't want to miss. Welcome to Red Rose Academy. Vampire society is dominated by men. Women are tools to be used to gain them power. Mates have always been chosen for all women, but Rose Allen is going to change all of that. Rose’s life has always been steeped in darkness. Living under the thumb of her abusive father, she eagerly escapes to the prestigious Red Rose Academy, hidden in the heart of New Orleans. The sanctuary she seeks, however, is not as secure as she’d hoped. At Red Rose, old grudges run deep, and the academy's rules bind her as tightly as her father's chains. As Rose delves deeper into her unique abilities, the line between friend and enemy blurs, and her world shifts in ways she never imagined possible. Caught in a dangerous web of secrets and lies, Rose becomes entangled with two men who couldn’t be more different. Will Valentin and Rocco be her salvation or her downfall? I guess we will find out. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. I highly recommend to everyone.
RED ROSE ACADEMY is an academy romance focused on my favorites: vampires. In this secret society dominated by men, women are no more than tools, but our protagonist is determined to change it all. And as she does so, she gets caught up in a love entanglement with two vampire hotties...
This is the second book I have read from this author, and I love their ability to weave enjoyable, quick binge reads. I enjoyed the interesting characters dynamics, where the line between friends and foes was quick to cross. Selena, for instance, was absolutely annoying and almost frightening in her relentless pursuit of the prince and in pitting herself against Rose. But I enjoyed the all-vampire love triangle especially! Choosing a side is very difficult but I am certainly enjoying the ride.
I definitely recommend this read to those who love academy settings, love triangles and vampires!
Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. Opinions are my own.
I don't know what everyone else is reading to rate this 4 or 5 stars. The first chapter is utter nonsense and so poorly written it's actually laughable. The first 7 pages introduces half a dozen characters in some café that we're supposed to care about and then dives right in to them scaling a wall to break in somewhere and stop a vampire execution? One line during this daring rescue attempt is "We all three glanced at each other like WTF."
Nauseatingly bad. This type of choppy, fast-paced nonsensical storytelling is getting increasingly popular. Crazy plot twists happen just to give the writer something to write about, whether or not it makes sense at all--even in their own world they've made.
I think this book has a lot of promise despite a few spelling and grammar errors. This clearly draws on some Harry Potter and various other supernatural stories. However, I think there’s a little too much going on. I’m not sure which outcome to focus on: the Academy Games? Her fated sword with witch powers? Her abuse and put downs at the hands of her father when she’s clearly got some hidden powers? The love triangle with her, Rocco and Valentin? Plus, the second half of the book moves a lot faster and throws more material in there in a shorter space of time. The book either needs to be longer to draw this story out and flesh it out more or some of the story lines should be separate. Also, I don’t understand the connection to the beginning of the story.
Red Rose Academy Year One: Paranormal Academy Romance
Red Rose Academy Year One: Paranormal Academy Romance ❤❤❤ love the Academy books but I really love it when other characters from previous books appear. This is a really good book.i decided to read s couple of chapters before bed, well j was up until 3 am and had yo get up st 5:25!!! My students laughed at me saying I looked really tired.. LOL 😂 I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves academy stories or just loves 🥰🩷vampires 🧛♂️ What an ending and sure enough I had yo read a few chapters from book 2 because I couldn't sleep not knowing... Well now back to book 2..
I loved this book! I hate how Rose's father abused her and her mother. I hated Selena and her dad especially in the end. I love Millie and how she is such a great friend to Rose. I love Rocco and Valentin and how they are both willing to do whatever they have to for Rose. I love how she got a unique sword and how she has a unique way of shifting. I love how she changed things and how the girls from the academy were allowed to participate in the games for the first time. I hate her father and hope he gets what he deserves eventually. I cannot wait to read more!
Red Rose Academy features a feisty heroine hellbent on becoming so much more than what society has planned for her. At every turn, Rose Allen defies norms and expectations set forth by ignorant men and I am loving how she flourishes into her best self as I fly through this book!
What to Expect: —Vampire Society —Paranormal Romance —Magical Academy Setting —Forbidden Love
Thank you so much to the author for sending me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions expressed above are entirely my own.
Very ya, pnr, vampire, academy with royalty and adolescent romance. This series starter is rather over the top dramatic. Our heroine has been beaten and psychologically abused by her father, but now she's attending a mysoganinistic academy for vampires. She likes the prince, who loves her and she loves the bad boy outcast as well. There is evil in the vampire society and she has gotten the attention of the bad guys. Turns out she was held back by her father and now has discovered several powers to exploit.
Traditional views or modern views. Which will win out?
Rose is available ampere, browbeaten by her father. Can she overcome years of brutal treatment to become the best in the academy? She is followed by both Rocco, a prince, and Valentin, whose family are traitors. There are other traitors around those who would see her disgraced. A must-read for all lovers of the supernatural world.
For all my vampire romance lovers. If you loved twilight and vampire academy, you’re going to need to pick this one up. I flew thru and it is definitely binge worthy. Some of my fav tropes included and I loved the whole atmosphere for the book. Rose Allen is amazing and I can’t wait to read more of her.
Best tropes included : Friends to Lovers Love Triangle Forbidden Romance Slow Burn Fated Mates
Wow, I really enjoyed this...don't plan on doing much else once you start! A little dark, with romance, enemies, and mystery thrown in the mix. A great first year opener...although the ending is a bit of a cliffhanger (grr ;-)!!)....and there were a couple of areas I would have liked to see more of (like Roses training)...hopefully this will come out more in following years
I had high expectations of this book because the reviews were so good. Ppl saying they couldn’t put it down, that if you enjoyed Vampire Academy & Twilight you would love this. I did read it quickly, but I disagree about it being anywhere near as good as Vampire Academy. It was good to read once but not something I would want to re-read.
Suppressed by her Father, she and her Mother beaten often, Rose finally escapes to Red Rose Academy. There she fights for women's rights and wins the right to fight in the Academy games.
I found this book quite confusing. Be warned there are tw's. Which added to the confusion. I kept hoping things would cleat up but they didn't. Not interested in the next boom.
That was a fun read. I like how it brings the other academy into the story. All of the characters are interesting to read about. More of the games would have been fun to read about.
I was bored and sitting here so I picked up this book. I loved every minute of it. There is something about a paranormal romance that give a warm feeling inside.
I am in love with Rose. She goes through so much. I mean her abuse and the roommate from hell. I mean it’s a lot. Then she starts to make friends. I love the kitten. I am also glad with Valentin and Rocco. I am afraid she will lose one but I hope not.
A Good Series Rose’s destiny begins to unfold as she and Valentin continue their quest to save her father, his brother, and the kingdom. This tale is exciting from the first page to the last. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review
I really loved this book. When a book pulls you in from the beginning you know it’s going to be a great read. I loved the characters. Not so much the bad ones though they are a necessary evil for this book. I admit Rose is my favorite.
I really enjoyed this book and loved this take on an academy! I love this character rose and her will to do the right thing even when things are against her. Highly recommend!
I’d love for this to be rewritten with more thought to the timeline and details. The plot is interesting and could be done really well but the story was rushed and the connections to other characters were flat.
The book was good. I sometimes grew frustrated with Rose but she redeemed herself. Rocco and Valentin should have gotten theirs heads together and talked to each other. Let's see what's next
DNF 65%. There were elements of this book that were interesting but overall it fell flat. I don't at all understand the first scene and how that relates to anything? I also feel like some of the scenes involving Selena were very trivial and I found myself cringing.
