Travel to Transform

Rate this book
Guidebooks are for tourists and self-help books are for internal journeys. But what about the personal growth that comes from travelling?

Where are the guides for navigating cultural gaps and building a life in a new country?

Today, the world has already globalised, but human consciousness hasn’t. Global citizenship is not a status, but a world-centric way of thinking, seeing, and living.

Freeman Fung has experienced life in over thirty countries and believes that travelling is the ultimate fast track to personal growth and self-mastery. Travel to Transform is a self-development guide for anyone feeling stuck in mundane routines and looking to discover more in life. This travel memoir demonstrates how becoming a global citizen unleashes opportunities to transform your life holistically, from a state of surviving to a state of thriving.

Get inspired to leave your comfort zone. No matter where you’re from, you too can live your fullest as a thriving global citizen in this modernised world.

This book has the potential to change your life

I’ve always believed that traveling can open our eyes to new perspectives, and create a better life for ourselves, and Freeman Fung has confirmed that for me. The stories and graphics really enhanced all of the information. Freeman has allowed us to live vicariously through him by offering stories of his travels from around the world. As he says though, this is not a traditional memoir. I have learned so much from this book. One day, I hope to become the true definition of a global citizen.

I love the concept of this book and discussing how traveling is a way of self improvement for people. I love to travel and always enjoy the entire process, finding a place to go, booking your travel, being on your trip and more. It’s an exciting experience to be a part of and it offers you a great way to experience different parts of the world, learn and grow as an individual. The author, Freeman Fung, includes great stories and shares his experiences of the places he has traveled. Fung explains throughout this book how traveling can open our eyes to a new perspective in life and give us a new way of learning. This book will make you want to book your next trip asap

I was just speaking to a friend today how important it is for one's world view to travel. Freeman Fung has made a couple of very important points in that traveling opens one's mind and changes one's outlook on life and people who are different from yourself. I highly recommend this book to anyone who feels that you can find anything you want in your own home town. I promise you, you will not be the same after reading this because you will want to go travelling and travelling will change you for the better. Highly recommend

A fantastic book to read before you are going for your next trip. Definitely a must have. The author has prepared me to be a global citizen as I am traveling. A total new concept for me to learn and integrate different values in cultures while transforming myself to be a better person. The journey in fact does not start from external but internal in your mind as mentioned by Freeman!

This is an excellent book with tons of insights about the value and virtues of travelling and mindfulness. Unfortunately, the author seems to belittle people who chose to raise families and lay down roots in a particular community rather than engage in extensive world travelling and mindfulness practices. There are literally billions of people who have never travelled beyond their immediate communities or engaged in the mindfulness practices the author recommends, yet they are at peace. There are also many who would like to travel extensively, but they do not have the luxury, like Mr. Fung, to spend extensive time in various parts of the world. For people with extensive school loans, mortgages, credit card debt, and/or child rearing expenses, the type of world travelling he advocates is largely out of reach. The overwhelming implication of the book is that people who do not choose to live a lifestyle similar to Mr. Fung are somehow less than human. Finally, there is a bit of an irritating sales pitch toward the end of the book where he plugs a business called Mindvalley for greater personal growth.

Reading "Travel to Transform" just before our relocation to Italy from Australia, has been truly transformative. Freeman Fung’s words came at the perfect time, helping me tremendously to embrace the cultural differences of the locals and settle into this new chapter of life with openness and ease.

Thanks to this book, the global citizen in me has awakened. Freeman’s reflections and personal stories made me realise that travel is not just about changing location - it's about changing perspective. His message resonated deeply: when you travel consciously, you don’t just see the world, you change your world.

Travel to Transform is an empowering read for anyone seeking a life of more purpose, adventure, and self- discovery. I highly recommend it to anyone starting a new journey, whether across the globe or within themselves.

A New Journey Awaits

At first, this sounded like the life of a gypsy but on a bigger scale. I actually have a few family members that still live like this, one of which travels all over the place to areas like the amazon & small tribes. I really like how this guy straight up says this isn't for everybody, but for those of you that it is for, man do I have a story to tell. It relaxes any preconceived expectations you might have picking up this book, and allows you to really see what he's trying to relay. It's always nice to hear from an active source about the things you wonder about during the night. For me, this is one of those times. Questions can be answered, and new ones can take their place.

A different take on a travel guide, an awesome read on having a global mindset!

A tried and true global citizen Freeman Fung offers up lessons on becoming part of a global community. His book is a recollection of his travel stories from around the world. Such great tidbits of wisdom from the authors personal travel experiences, not only as a guide to move about but a challenge to shift your mindset. freeman Fung insists that this is not a self-help piece, but it’s written to inspire and contains valuable lessons from his experiences with traveling, studying, and working abroad. I recommend this book to anyone who wishes to see and experience new places and faces. The book includes great stories of all kinds of places that he’s traveled. You will enjoy this book!

This is such a great concept! Although this book is not necessarily a typical self-help book in the general sense, but Travel to Transform may indeed inspire you to step out of your comfort zone, try some new experiences and expand your horizons!
The experience of travelling to a foreign land can do so much to bring about a respect and appreciation for other cultures. It can be so rewarding to go out to dinner or shopping and interact with people in a foreign language, view arts and architecture that goes back hundreds and in some cases thousands of years! Freeman Fung’s basic theme in this book is that these experiences will have a powerful, transformative effect on your life. As Freeman Fung asks, “are you ready to awaken the global citizen in you?”

I wholeheartedly recommend Travel to Transform for anyone looking for inspiration to enrich and elevate their life.

There are so many meaningful layers to this book - it’s a collection of engaging and adventurous stories of the author’s travels, it shares their greatest life lessons and, on another level, with each chapter you feel inspired to not only reflect on your own life, but to take inspired action towards enhancing it.

It's definitely an active experience, not a passive one, with reflection questions and call to action prompts throughout the book too!

This book has helped me on my journey of overcoming self-doubt and limiting beliefs, and given me an abundance of amazing tools to nurture my wellbeing, happiness and goals, and tools to live a fulfilling life.

This novel digs deeper than your average, “How Travelling has changed me.” The author spoke about his experience as an adolescent in a culture that held higher than excellent expectations in shaping him to be something he found nearly suffocating. Something that stood out to me was his love for said activities (piano, music, etc) which he never knew he truly loved until he wasn’t forced to do it. Completely relatable. As someone who travels as well I’ve been able to experience first hand how the environment you’re in can vastly improve or destroy your mental and physical health. I believe this novel does a phenomenal job in visualizing this exact notion. Great book!

“One of my core personal values is freedom, and awareness sets us free.”Thoroughly enjoyed reading the book. I personally felt myself transforming as the author shared memories of his travel. What I really liked was how the book wants the readers to take a “cosmopolitan” approach which signals the attainment of both world peace and peace with oneself (“global citizen not an amazing tourist”). As I put down the book, I felt the strong urge to go and immerse myself in the travel experience. I cannot wait to plan my next trip!

This book is a true eye-opener that questions how we perceive the world. For example, believing that we are separated from others is an illusion as the big picture proves that we are not different. Freeman combines his raw and vulnerable stories with scientific knowledge to paint a picture of why being a world citizen benefits all of us. Moreover, the questions after each chapter allow the reader to reflect and choose an empowering mindset. We are born world citizens and Freeman guides you how to fully enjoy the world citizen mindset and feel freer. Highly recommended!

Travel to Transform is a perfect combination of self-help, travel guide, and memoir.

Freeman Fung's Story from Hong Kong to Becoming a global citizen is fascinating and educating parallelly.

I loved this book because it helped me to find out my life purpose and my authentic self. It helped me in finding a way to leave my comfort zone and become more conscious and mindful.

No doubt the first three parts were amazing but the last one was my favorite. If you want to travel a lot and want to make a career in this field no other book can help you more than this one.

This travel memoir has given me a refreshing perspective on life. At such a young age, Freeman Fung, a certified life coach, has already amassed a significant amount of knowledge, particularly in the realms of travel and embracing joy. If you only read a handful of books to enhance your quality of life and perspective, make sure to prioritize this inspiring book to accelerate your personal development. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
