When a hot-shot rookie race car named Lightning McQueen gets lost on his way to the big race, he finds some friends in a small town-and learns some big lessons! Children ages 4-6 will love this Disney/Pixar Cars Step into Reading leveled reader based on the original film.
Personal response: Well not an book to get an kid to sleep. But it made him want me to read more. The book was made for children not for me, so I didn't like it as much
Plot: The book was made according to the movie. It starts out talking about who and what Lightning Mcqueen was. Lightning Mcqueen was a race car sponsored by an company called Rusty's who moved him around. When on the way to the big race he got last and turned a town upside down, messed up a lot of decor and broke the road. The townspeople agreed for him to fix the road. As he finished camera crew came and rushed him off to the big race. Matter wanted to help Lightning Mcqueen so did some of his other friends came to help their friend finish the race.
Recommendation: I would recommend more of these books, and to read an better book for getting an kid to sleep in a bed.Wyatt liked the book because he loved the movie and he just likes how Matter is funny. I would recommend more books for a 3 to 7 year olds.
I thought we had read all of the Cars books in the Step-into-Reading series, but I guess not! This one follows the movie. If memory serves, the other three use pictures from the movie, but the stories are not from the movie. Its a simplification focusing on just McQueen and Mater, but it works for the purpose.
This is a nice book to read to your child heading into preschool/kindergarten. The words are short and easy to pronounce. As well as big and bold so she can see each distinctive letter.
I would suggest watching the movie first. Not only will it make it easy to understand she can also familiarize herself with the characters.
This book is perfect for new readers and perfect to have in an elementary classroom. Its font is large and it has familiar characters (from the Cars movies) in order to keep children engaged in the story. I love how it underlines the verbs used to emphasize verb tense- a concpet that can be tricky for students to grasp at first and is very important for all to understand.
This is a level 2 reader book. This book summaries the Disney cartoon "Cars" very well... there are only a few places that is 'choppy' but mostly it goes hand in hand with the movie of course leaving out some stuff...but the storybook moves along well if you have never watched the movie.
I give it a 4 star because it is a great book for beginners. it uses basic vocabulary, short sentences, and it's a simple story. My 5 year old son loved it.
Not the Race that Counts, it's what you learn from it. And Don't Speed!
In Driving Buddies Lightning wants to win a race and Mater wants a friend. Lightning gets lost on his way to the race and starts speeding, getting himself in big trouble with the police. He also makes a huge mess and has to clean it up, he can't leave town until that. He meets Mater while in town and the two become best buds. After he fixed everything News Reporters find him for the race. Mater and his friends don't want to leave Lightning and come with him to his race. Lightning doesn't win but instead helps another car. He realizes he doesn't want to win the race most, but to have friends.
Favorite Character: Mater Big Bold Letters For Easy Reading And Short Sentences Problem: Lightning Makes A Mess He Has To Clean Up And Has A Race To Get To Message: Make More Friends Cute, Easy Illustrations, And Very Fun
I am visiting my nieces and nephew in Norman, OK. We went to the public library and I was uber-impressed with the children's book selection and hands-on activities. They selected 40 books and we have been engrossed in reading.
They picked out four or five books based on the movie, Cars. Driving Buddies focuses on how Mater and Lightening McQueen become friends. The illustrations are fabulous and the words are fairly easy for a Level 2 reader. The message of the story is about the importance of friends.
My nephew's name is Jordan, so we loved the author's name: Apple Jordan. What a cool name!
