DEATH. It's the one experience everyone will share - except, perhaps, for Jak Hamelton.
Three words whirl Jak to a particular garden paradise where a treacherous interaction between Man, Woman and a snake usher death and evil into the world. When a mysterious benefactor named El offers Jak the opportunity to bring the dead back to life and live forever, it sounds like an impossible dream. But when Jak's grandfather unexpectedly begins aging backwards, it appears the dream just might be reality.
However, the weapon Jak's been given to defeat death and evil doesn't even work yet, and the serpent Beelz isn't willing to give up the Earth without a fight. Besides that, there's the poison...
Is it really true that the dead can live forever? What will it take to restore paradise?
The book is a really good way of interpreting and retelling the beginning of the Bible in Genesis. The author's style of writing draws readers in and my son could not put it down once he started reading. There is a lot of suspense and engaging characters; my son's three favorite characters were Gramps, Man, and Mr. Nettor. Gramps reminded my son of his own granddad who was loving and compassionate. Gramps looked out for Jak and Tess and never gave up. Man was childish and innocent and it was humorous the way he interacted with the other characters. And Mr. Nettor was a cowardly old man who did not believe anything unless he saw it for himself.
Overall, it has a great message, although my son thought it was a little bit preachy. He is looking forward to reading the second book and finding out what happens next (without giving any spoilers away, this book had in my son's words, a bit of a "Matrix" ending).
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book for review. No other compensation was received.
Not sure if you want to read the Bible? Tried reading the Bible and felt challenged? Read this first! This is an amazing book full of adventure as Jak, his cousin Tess, and Gramps travel throughout different times in the Bible. A great book for you to read, your children to read, or to read as a family. I am hoping the author is able to continue to publish more titles in this series.
Intense book that makes you want to read for hours! Literally! I couldn't put it down and read it in less than a week. It's great for telling the Bible in a different way - a really unique plot. I recommend to anyone ages 10+
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Although there were times when I thought the author did more telling than showing, the overall writing style is intriguing and the plot is excellent. It follows the book of Genesis by using a creative fiction perspective and, even as an adult, I enjoyed it thoroughly. I'm excited to read the next in the series.
