How to Rom-com #2

How to Marry Your Single Dad Neighbor

Rate this book
I guess I’m a mother now?

What do you do when your next-door neighbor’s daughter, who you probably shouldn’t be talking to about your fantasy romance books, hands you a guide and asks you to marry her father? Apparently, social disaster that you are, you do it.

If I told little me that I was going to grow up and get marriage-of-convenienced to someone who can’t even make eye contact with me, I probably would have been all for it. Honestly. Let’s just say the book trope addiction started young and hasn’t stopped yet.

As a quiet indie author, I have one online friend and my nine-year-old next-door neighbor buddy. My trust issues, fear of rejection, less-than-optimal childhood, and pitiful communication skills do not leave me with the best toolbox when it comes to becoming a fake wife or mother in order to keep my little buddy safe.

But, hey, like most of the main characters I write about, you do what you have to for the people you care for. Let this story begin.

Camilla Evergreen is an alias of USA Today bestselling author Anne Stryker. Originally intended as a dumping ground for all things lacking fantasy, Camilla/Anne came to the shocking discovery that writing sarcastic, chaotic romcoms full of quippy heroines and adoring heroes has a kick to it.

Camilla/Anne’s neurodivergent tendencies leave her hyperfocused on writing sweet and sassy romances from dawn till dusk and lending whatever her current creative obsessions are to her characters. From arranged marriages to falling for the boss, there’s lots of love to go around.

Misunderstanding our way to Romance

Sofia finally bought a home of her own, and as she moves her gigantic collection of books she crashes and burns in front of the world’s most gorgeous guy. He is a grouch with a child, but a girl can dream.

June is the child of the grouch and they become very close. One day she tells Sofia that Child Protective Services are in her house and that her absent mother called them. She asked Sofia to pretend to be her father’s fiancée and calls her Mom.

This is a cute and very convoluted story that isn’t one of Camilla Evergreen’s best work, but it’s not bad. Three and a half stars rounded up to four for this clean romance.

I received this book as an ARC and I’m so glad I was chosen.

This book was so cute from the start! The characters are quirky and funny. June is way to smart for her own good and knows how to get her way. She’s one funny kid! Sophia and Grayson are a mess and their communication can be off but it’s what makes them so special. Both come from difficult families but learn to work their way through life. I like how Sophia is a curvy girl and isn’t super confident but she should be in Grayson’s eyes and he lets her know that. He won’t let her settle for any less than she deserves.
The banter and tropes in this book are just funny and makes for a great rom-com. You’ll laugh out loud sometimes and other times get all the warm fussy feelings. I will for sure be reading more from this author!

I'm in like the 72% of this book and have been thinking of DNF like 5 times. All the characters are so annoying !!!

June is the worse one, she is supposedly 9 years old but doesn't even act like one. Says very mature things like is normal for a 9yo and we have to accept it because that makes it easier in the FMC to deal with kids ???? FMC is the next one of the annoying character! Like girl I get you are insecure but the guy just told you he likes you and you still think he is just .... What using you ??? And girl says he is sucha a nice guy but believes his is going to be with her when he is in love with another person???? He have been the perfect gentleman when you got drunk and you take that as not being interested ???? This girl just makes up stories in her head and isn't able to talk a single thing with the guy she is going to marry? Always misunderstanding and always inventing bad stuff in her head. How the fuck is she an adult??

That's another thing about the book I hate sooo much , the lack of communication in this book is so stupid. Like how con you justify the MMC telling the FMC she likes someone and to not expect to be misunderstood by her when you ignore her for 5 years and with not good reason !!!! Im getting angry just writing this 😅.

Still considering DNF

Also the amount of sugar the kid consume is so absurd that it takes me out of the story. A sane parent would never allow this amount of sugar that could potentially affect your child future health.
I'm going to be honest I really did like the writer interaction and was invested in how they would find out, it was what kept me going but not anymore.
Finishing this review I will DNF

Second book I’ve read by this author and I find her psyche fascinating. This is a book about 2 romance authors who write dark spicy books. There is no sex in this book. This book is not spicy.
One of the basic themes of this book is that there is nothing to be ashamed of if you read or write spicy books. Yet there is none actually in this book. That’s a weird contradiction. It almost feels like the author is ashamed or embarrassed to write a spicy scene.
Again, the author goes out of their way to avoid cursing. The characters curse. The author essentially bleeps them. Why write a character that uses curse words but not actually USE the curse words? So strange.
ALSO one of the authors in the book has never had sex but writes sexy stories. And… now I’m curious if that’s Camilla Evergreen? Maybe that’s why there aren’t any spicy scenes? If that’s the case, that makes sense. Write what you know, and all that. But why go out of your way to say “writing smut is a perfectly respectable way to make a living” while producing a squeaky clean book?
It’s just the most fascinating contradiction and I feel a need to read all this author’s books so I can armchair analyze her and her odd fascination with reading spice while having an aversion to writing it. It feels less than authentic. Like, Camilla is lying to herself or trying to convince herself it’s ok to like reading smut? Don’t feel ashamed, Camilla. Listen to your characters. It’s ok to like what you like.

The actual book, tho: Predictable. The little girl didn’t sound like a little girl. Miscommunication is one of my biggest annoyances in books and that was the ENTIRE story. And it was cute but could’ve been a lot more.

I love when an author is willing to poke fun at the number of tropes woven into a story within the story. I found this a truly enjoyable read, the perfect amount of sweet mixed with awkward tension and misunderstandings. Camilla Evergreen has once again artfully handled the affects of difficult childhoods and how it continues to influence and shape characters into adulthood.

I received an ARC; a positive review was not a requirement.

I'm absolutely loving this series!!
The premise of this book had all of my favourite things: marriage of convenience , guy falls first etc so I went into this with high expectations.
From the very beginning, I couldn't help but root for Sophia and Grayson. They're both wonderfully weird and complement each other's personalities so well. They each had a lot of baggage, but I couldn't help but like them for all their quirks.

June was such a hilarious character and I fully believe she'll be president if she wants to
The plot was also great, although I did figure out some stuff quite early one
Anyways, overall a super cute rom-com, and although I didn't love it quite as much as the first novel, I can't wait to read the next one!

This was just too juvenile for my tastes. If there hadn't been a child involved I would have thought the main characters were 14-15 years old.

Sofia moves next door to Grayson, they have a "meet awkward" and pretty much ignore each other for FIVE YEARS. But then Sofia befriends Grayson's 9-year-old daughter June (which I found kind of weird and creepy that this is Sofia's only friend) and suddenly there's wedding planning going on. What?!?

There are tons of "Three's Company" style miscommunications, and just plain lack of communication about anything important. Why would two people never speak about what kind of jobs they have?

There's a twist at the end that I saw coming fairly early in the book, maybe it was supposed to be cute, but I just rolled my eyes and found it kind of pathetic.

This book took me completely by surprise because Oh.My.God! It’s such a cute story. I could relate to the FMC on soo many levels (plus size, awkward, scared of rejection) it was nice to read about a character who wasn’t so perfect, or thought she wasn’t perfect until she found the right guy. I loved how the MMC accepted her for who she was! My fav character however has to be tiny editor, she was the main character in this story, you’ll know why once you read the book!

This has been one of the best romcoms I’ve read recently and I most certainly recommend it to everyone. Trust me, you’ll enjoy it so much.

I will also be doing a detailed review (with tropes, mood boards and all that jazz) on my IG. So go follow me @r.ed_reader so you don’t miss it ♥️

One thing that I always appreciate about this author is that she makes you really think about what you're reading. I was a little wary from the first 5% because LGBTQ fiction isn't really my thing, but knowing the author, I figured this part of the story would have some significance. By 29% I got it, and then I had to stop reading and literally think through everything I had already read through a new lens. She always seems to have these inception moments where as a reader you're like, "Oh. Ooooh."

The daughter, June, is a fabulous character. I think the author handles heavy topics well. I love the "it was always you" trope. This falls under the closed-door romance umbrella. There's no sex in the book, but it's a little spicy.

I am now adding every book this woman has ever written to my TBR. Much like Book 1, I finished this book in less than 24 hours.

The writing is smooth and relatable. The characters awkward and flawed and so freaking lovable. I cackled. I giggled like a schoolgirl. I squealed at the end because, even though I guessed what I thought was the twist, there was an additional twist that had me gasping with glee.

As a writer and someone who married a single dad, this book delighted my soul.

It’s fun and sassy and quirky. The romance is soooo swoony, but closed door when it comes to anything explicit. And there is a guaranteed HEA. What more could you ask for?

*I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.*

Rating: 📚📚📚📚.5

Release Date: 20 December 2022

Review: This book gets bonus points for having one of my favourite tropes, the guy falls first. Not to mention I am a sucker for the fake dating trope (in this case marriage). This was a great read where it’s impossible not to root for Sophia and Grayson. It’s perfect to curl up with on a cold winter day.

Funny, entertaining, clever. It is a "clean" romance, but still an adult book. There's plenty of passion here. Good elements embedded in the story such as responsible parenting, overcoming and healing personal trauma, and a fun if implausible twist at the end.

This was the 2nd book of the series and the 3rd I read from her and it has been, by far, my favourite !

I still find absurd Sofia goes to him and ask him to marry him out of the blue, but all in all is sweet, it’s funny- it made me giggle and I didn’t really figure all the aspects of the ending .

The dynamic of the two writers, B&G , it’s incredible! I love how they supported each other as writers.. without knowing all the rest.

I don’t know if I can explain WHY, but I LOVED this book! I normally do not love the miscommunication trope but this somehow really worked for me! And also, while there was miscommunication, there was still somehow still good communication!

Also, I loved Camilla’s writing style. It was single POV and the FMC is funny (to me at least!). But then the book was also balanced with real issues and how those affect her. So I felt like it was a deep book, but also light and funny. See, hard to explain why I love!!

It was my first time reading Camilla and I will be back for more!

Just buy it! It’s fabulous!

Let me tell you how much I loved this book. I read it cover to cover in one day on Kindle Unlimited and I immediately turned around and purchased it. I use Kindle Unlimited because I’m a book miser. So if I buy a book it’s because it’s such an exquiste, precious experience that I can’t live without this in my library type of book. I read over 300 books through the Kindle Unlimited Portal last year and only 3 were books that I had purchased. More than that, those 3 books were huge compilation books on pre-order sale. This book, THIS BOOK, is the only single author book I have purchased (and for full price) in over a year. Yes, you need to read this, and if you are like me you will want to re read this book every month.

THE BOOK: It’s pretty obvious from the beginning the layers of miscommunications and misunderstandings keeping these two, Grayson and Sofia, apart. Somehow Grayson’s daughter June, who I totally think would actually grow up to be the President of the United States or a mastermind behind a government coup (it’s a toss up at this point since she is only 9 years old), gets Sofia to propose marriage to her dad to help him retain full child custody from her birth mother. The relationship you see in that first chapter between Sofia and June is incredible. First of all it had me laughing at the inappropriateness of June, the 9 year old, helping formulate scenes in a fantasy romance book. Naturally all the details June shouldn’t know Sofia leaves out. Secondly Sofia truly fills the “Mom” role by weekly for years helping with homework, feeding her, and helping to shape her character.

All that made the book really great but the most amazing connection was between dad Grayson and emo Sofia. The single POV was from Sofia and we see the post proposal awkward in person interactions and her always trying to read between the lines to see how Grayson feels. Add another layer to that, Sofia and her relationship with her BFF and favorite author Gale, who well, I don’t want to spoil it. Lets just say that even though you as a reader catch what is happening immediately it is so exciting to read as the story progresses.

This book feels like it has lots of heat but there is no actual spice! I love that in the introduction the author provides you with a list of reader expectations including exact heat level, tropes, triggers, stress level, etc.

Rating: PG/PG-13, clean romance, closed door romance, has some sensual kissing but no 2nd base touches touching, has mild sexual innuendo, emo and fantasy are themes in the story.

"Never trust a poor first impression. It may just be the unlikely start of a story."

Sofia and her next-door neighbor didn't have the best of first impressions. Since that time, they've both kept their distance from one another with the exception of one person. . . Okay, look Sofia needs her "tiny editor", no if's and or but's about it! Even if the person just so happens to be the daughter of the next-door neighbor who hasn't looked directly at Sofia since she moved in.

But after a certain meeting between June and herself, Sofia finds she needs to take action realizing that she is inevitably a mother! How did that happen?! June doesn't want to return to her biological mom and Sofia refuses to have her "child" taken away from her. The solution is rather obvious, go over and announce to the single dad that you are going to marry him! Yes, that will work, what could possibly go wrong? Marriage-of-convenience tropes always work out in books surely it will be fine in real life.

"Fantasy is just reality with an extra dose of belief." - Sophia

I absolutely LOVE Camilla Evergreen's romantic comedies. They will leave you feeling so many types of ways! I didn't expect to cry as much as I did with this read as I devoured it. Camilla writes clean romances with happy endings and feel-good moments. But I also really love and appreciate that the MCs don't always get the memo and toe the genre line. Meaning there are some sexual innuendos and wants because we are still dealing with adults. Everyone needs a healthy dose of wanting to cling onto another like a "baby koala", right?

Sofia's finally becoming a full-fledged adult with her own house and independent life! Within the years she has lived in the neighborhood she has formed a bond with the daughter of the single dad next-door. Not fully registering the extent of the bond until she is faced with a problem that involves her. The lightbulb over Sofia's head immediately bursts to life when she goes through the list of things that have united June and her together.

She needs June more than she realized and will not allow for someone to wreck June's life just because they suddenly want to play "mother". Nope! A plan is formed and soon the path is shown the only problem is going through with the plan. Grayson hasn't exactly been the most welcoming and now she has to talk to the grumpy recluse about marriage?!

I laughed so much with this read and just loved how the trio were brought together. Understanding more about one another and growing closer even if sometimes the MCs were a little clueless. . . This book does touch on CPS and potential chances of a child being taken away. Custody battle is mentioned but Camilla kept things lighthearted and respectful. Do read the "reader expectations" at the beginning of the book, but Camilla keeps her romcoms very fluffy, romantic, and light even when heavier subjects are addressed.

I love reading books where the MCs are nerds just like us bookworms! Reading, reviewing, or even being the authors of the books, we have come to love and adore! Sofia's an author with a pen name and a lack of social skills. She would rather remain inside her house doing her own thing then go out into the world. Sofia has an author bestie, and a nine-year-old bestie so why should she want for anything else?

"Seriously. Who would have thought rolled-up sleeves would be my kryptonite?" - Sofia

I absolutely loved Sofia and her character. She's an indie author trying to make it in the world and enjoying the interactions with her traditionally published friend. The two are also making big moves with their future plans as things begin to unfold. Sofia hasn't been ready to unmask her true identity to the world and has remained under her pen name without showing her face. But maybe it is time to come out?

I loved all the healing that went on within this book! Grayson is definitely a new book boyfriend! He's patient and understands boundaries, not pushing even though he would personally like more. Wanting to take things at Sofia's pace and allowing her space when she needs it. There's some behind the scenes things going on as we get to kind of see into Grayson's head. If you loved, "You've Got Mail" you will really enjoy this read and understand the frustrations I had with the MCs.

Both Grayson and Sofia have come from broken homes and ones that housed abusive behaviors. They are both trying to not be products of their upbringing and Grayson is making sure he doesn't raise his daughter like his father did with him. . . There are insights into their pasts but no real in-depth details, but you understand what's being conveyed. Because of the past Sofia has been a bit insecure and untrusting about things.

"Naturally. Every young woman needs to know how to overthrow a government." - Sofia

The book is in first person POV and only Sofia's. I loved the read and just how everything played out! There's no language in the book and again the romance is clean and closed door. We do have a scene of heated emotions between younger kids, and I really loved how it all played out and how the adults handled things. Understanding that it isn't an easy job to raise children and you need to have a backbone. It is a learning process for all parties when it comes to children and how to handle them and situations that arise.

June was well written, and I absolutely loved her. Children are very smart and pick up on things quickly! Camilla writes phenomenal characters and ones you can relate to even if they are younger than you! We do get a very happy ending and I really enjoyed the extended epilogue! The next book in this series is an enemies to lovers and I am SO excited because that is one of my favorite book tropes! I have to see how Camilla pulls it off within a clean romantic comedy genre!

I could go on about this book and the author's writing style, but you just have to read this book for yourself! Do enjoy the slow burn romance and don't forget to give the author some stars!

These books can be read as standalones!

This was such a fun read! The chemistry was off the charts and I laughed out loud several times throughout! There were definitely some innuendos and lots of kissing scenes, so maybe not for the most conservative of readers, but it went no further than that and was still a clean read. As much as I enjoyed Sophia and Grayson, let's be honest- June absolutely made this book. Definitely a must read!

So cute! I feel like I need to read this book over again to catch what I was missing the first time around!

Update: I read it again and loved it even more the second time! I love June and her well intentioned scheming. Sophia and Grayson were adorable and shy when it comes to romance. I just loved them!

The twist at the end took me a while to process.

A twenty something year old writer moves into a cookie cutter house next door to a hot guy. He helps her pick up books she dropped. He makes a derogatory comment about the covers of the books. She rarely sees him in the 5 years that she lives there. However, his nine year old daughter befriends her. And Sofia can cook & bake really good. Unlike June's dad Grayson who can't even cut vegetables right. It's no wonder June is so small. On top of that the minute June finds out Sofia is a vegan she decides to become one. Which leaves Grayson struggling even harder to feed June. He has no idea what type of vegetable dishes to make her. It turns out he can follow a recipe. June visits Sofia in the backyard by climbing in a tree. Sofia starts making her snacks. When June is flunking math Sofia helps her with her homework. When June tells Sofia that her mom is trying to take her away from her dad she asks what she can do to help. June's idea is for her to marry Grayson. Since she loves June so much she asks Grayson to marry her. June asks Sofia how to overthrow a government. Because Sofia is always honest with her she tells her. Later she finds out June took that advice & used it to get the school to stop the Thanksgiving play & instead to back a meal for the homeless. Child Protective Services knocks on Grayson's door. They look around the house. June slips out the back door & over to Socials house. She wakes her up & Sofia rushes to get ready and help Grayson out. The CPS lady is upset because there isn't enough food in the refrigerator. Then she learns of Sofia being his finance. The CPS lady says she can overlook it because they were going to the store that day. Sofia learns what a great dad he is because he won't let June get foods with a lot of food coloring in them. Plus everything they buy they weigh the options on what is healthier & cost less.

Both the main characters are broken. They both had horrible childhoods. Sofia's was the worst because she doesn't even know what love is when she agrees to marry Grayson. Her parents didn't know how to be parents. The kids literally had to go hunt animals in the woods or starve. In fact there was a incident where Sofia almost died from a cut she got while using a knife to try to get a can of food open. Grayson's mom loved him but his dad questioned whether or not Grayson was his son. Grayson's mom died when he was twelve. His dad remarried a few months later. Then when his step mom got pregnant his dad kicked him out of the house. Grayson was seventeen when he got a girl pregnant. He went to live with his best friend & his parents. He took the baby from the hospital because the mother wanted nothing to do with the child.

I'm going to be mischievous & leave the rest for you guys to read & fine out. This is a great read. You will love it!

Romance level: kissing🔥; innuendos, intense make outs; mentions of sex.

Their first encounter was so awkward! I loved it.

I love how the plot gets intense since the beginning. Straight to the core of the problem.

I love Grayson & June's father-daughter relationship. They're so cute. Also, Sofia & June's friendship & bond was the best📖

Sofia's really sweet! These two are really an odd pair, but they work so well together.☕

There is definitely more innuendos than book 1, & more seductive scenes. I don't think I would read anything beyond this 😅 but it worked for the story.

Okay so here's a funny thing. I got totally blindsided with the plot. It wasn't how my mind was making it. But I'm so glad Anne explained some things😅👌🏻. I couldn't miss reading those parts.

I felt bad for both Sofia & Grayson. They had been through so much. I was just so touched by how he supported her & wanted to let her know how important she was.. and vice versa 💜

This book is so frustratingly good. The whole plot is super unique & just refreshing. I almost ripped my hair out at the small miscommunication. The thing is, it goes so well with the plot & the problems to overcome, that I wouldn't have it any other way.

Grayson and Sofia's chemistry 🔥👌🏻 wow. Those kisses! & That sleep over 🫣 This one is up on the heat level, that's for sure. It's a really intense make out. Nothing oversteps the boundaries of a closed door. But the steam in those kisses is wow.

I love them together! Their just so awkwardly cute. Their conversations were so good! All the baking / cooking made me hungry while reading it.

So the one floor & the meal invite?🔥 that chemistry! Lucas was the best😅 so funny.

Even within the whole miscommunication they communicated so well. You have to read it! It will make sense. I can't wait for what's coming next in this series!

⚠️TW: neglecting parent; custody battle; abusive parents (sad childhood)

Oh my. I LOVE this duo.

Grayson and Sophia are neighbors for five years now. On the day she moved in Grayson comes over, bleary-eyed and asking she keep the noise down because he and his young daughter were napping. Sophia, having a box break open on her is busy picking up piles of romance novels from her driveway.

She is mortified and believes he is disgusted with her reading content. Ever since that day Grayson has avoided eye contact and running into her as much as possible. Given that they both work from home, it isn’t like they see each other daily, but it’s enough that Sophia can’t help but feel his disapproval. But when Sophia learns Grayson may lose his daughter due to a call to CPS she can’t help but offer herself in marriage in an attempt to keep June safely at home.

Thus begins the fun in a does he/does she comedy of delightful proportions. What an absolutely delicious path to finding true love, even if those involved aren’t always on the same page.

Sophia, a curvy plus-sized coffee addict who owns mostly black and lacy clothes like an emo goddess, is a perfect lead who wants to believe in her own HEA, but life has shown her how unlikely that ever will be, no matter how attractive her neighbor to be. As an independent author writing under a pen name, she can only assume that her neighbor would be appalled to learn she not only reads fantasy romance novels, but writes them too.

Grayson, a single father who is too shy to even speak to Sophia, already has his hands full with his whip-smart 9-year old daughter. June has been his whole world ever since she was placed in his teenage arms and his girlfriend walking away with no regards for the daughter she left behind. Single fatherhood hasn’t been easy, but June is everything to him.

Both are so delightfully written and June is a precocious preteen with more wily ways than girls twice her age. As these three come closer to possibly becoming a family you can count on Ms. Evergreen’s witty writing to shine through as we find some familiar tropes used in all new ways.

What I read: How to Marry Your Single Dad Neighbor by Camilla Evergreen

Why I picked it up: An author I follow shared about it in her newsletter so I borrowed it from Kindle Unlimited, and then this morning I didn’t have another book ready to read after I finished the book club book – and this was the top one on my kindle app, so I started it.

How I read it: On Kindle Unlimited.

What it’s about: Sofia moved into her own home at the age of 20, and while she wasn’t really interested in getting to know her neighbors (she’s more of a loner than a joiner), the dad next door really can’t stand her (so she thinks). The book then skips ahead 5 years where she’s got a good relationship with the daughter but still hasn’t even become friends with the dad. Then the girl’s mother is vying for custody and thinks if Sofia marries her dad, then everything will be fixed. So June, the girl, convinces her to ask the dad to marry her – and surprisingly he says yes.

What I liked: I loved the online conversation between the two authors and that we know what that means a lot earlier than they do. Also there’s no “massive breakup/misunderstanding that we have to overcome to get back to together” which is a delight.

What I disliked: “My Angel” … not a pet name I appreciate.

Genre: Chaste love story, books about books, single dad.

I have all of this series on my TBR. I spent my whole Saturday reading this and did absolutely nothing else because I couldn't not read this to see how it ended. There are so many tropes mentioned in the book and mixes satire into the storyline that makes you laugh and swoon at the same time. Both the leads have a communication and social problem and instead of telling each other how they feel, they avoid talking to each other for 5 years. It takes a 9 year old daughter to scheme and put ideas into their minds to finally push them together. It's hilarious and so much fun to read! I love all the bonus scenes as well from the MMC's perspective. Both of them are secretly authors writing romance novels under aliases and have actually been chatting with each other for years without knowing it. This is probably a very unrealistic scenario but it's definitely fun to read about it! I am already looking forward to the next one but I don't think I should start it until next weekend or else I won't be able to stop and I need to get up early for work tomorrow!

She’s a romance author writing under an alias. He’s the gorgeous single dad next door. When Sophia moves into her new home, she meets her next door neighbor, Grayson, who promptly ignores the quirky, goth dressing woman for the next five years, though she eventually meets and adores his daughter, June. When said daughter comes to Sophia scared that her estranged mother wants custody, Sophia jumps to the rescue and reluctantly asks Grayson to marry her — strictly for June’s sake of course. In true RomCom fashion, mayhem ensues.

Evergreen’s witty banter and ability to make the absurd look normal makes this a great read. You root for both main characters despite what amounts to poor communication and resulting misunderstandings clothed in mutual insecurities. If ever two characters belonged together, it’s these two. They need each other just to be able to keep up with a precocious nine-year old! Loved the book. Highly recommended.

Authentically Engaging and Entertaining with Surprises!

Nine year-old "June" is one of the most fascinating, endearing, and entertaining characters I have encountered in a long time though her actions sometimes strain the spirit of the so-called "willing suspension of disbelief."
The author's description of overcoming and recovering from the painful hurts of unloving and/or neglectful parentage by thirty-somethings is a message of hope.
As a card-carrying member of the old geezer club, I did not know that there was something called a corset that women can wear outside their other clothes. I also do not understand the significance of women wearing all black clothes. I do however have a friend who occasionally dyes her hair with splashes of bright colors.

loved it!!!

Read entire review: (just trust me)

Listen, this is my 3rd book in the series so I’m not a newbie to Evergreen’s writing style. Her closed door, sweet HEAs are are perfect stress-free read.

BUT, the first thing I thought of when I started this book was- “Why is she using the same formula for the entire series?” Kinda hard to ignore the prologue meet cute, the 5 year time lapse, followed by the guy falling first…. I was just scared it was going to be a letdown of predictability.
After finishing this book, I can honestly say I WAS WRONG! While this story does have the same formula, the strong characters pull the reader into their story and refuse to let go. Each book has a perfect HEA for the individual storyline, only making the reader wish for more epilogues!!!

My final take: I’ll be binge reading Evergreen’s work as often as I can!!!

I am so excited!!!! My first thought as I finished this was where can I get more of this woman's books!!! I was so happy to see lists of books! Not just contemporary but fantasy! She writes under another name so I have much more of hers to read! I loved the writing! I loved the characters! I loved the story and how new this all sounded. I loved how unconventional these two were. And oh my goodness I loved how Grayson loved her! The swoon! The kisses, the emotion! Ya pretty happy I found this book.
This is a closed door romance. No swearing. Some sensual kissing scenes. No swearing and little alcohol. Heavy topics like abuse are handled very well. I would give this to my 16 year old to read.
It reminded me a little of Amy Harmon's contemporary books.
