Thirty Day Boss

Rate this book
Three days ago, I didn’t even know Simon Cambridge existed. If it wasn’t for one drunken night out with my friends, I would never have met Mr. Cocky Pants. I certainly never would have entered into a bet with him if I’d known then what I know now. And if I hadn’t lost the bet, I wouldn’t have to work for him for the next month. Today is only day one, and he’s already driving me crazy.

Ms. Gemma Whitestone,

I expected you in the office at 7 a.m. You’re tardy. Not a great look for your first day.

Your boss,

Simon Cambridge

Simon,

I’d hardly call you my boss. It’s not like I wanted this job. I’ll be in as soon as I can make it.

Doing you a favor,

Gemma Whitestone

Gem Gem,

If this is just a favor, then I know something else I’d prefer more. Meet me at my place at 10 p.m.

Your boss and soon-to-be lover,

Simo

Mr. Cambridge,

That’s not appropriate language to be used with a member of your employ. I will be there in thirty minutes.

Your secretary for a month,

Ms. Whitestone

P.S. If anything were to go down, it would be at my place, not yours.

Gemma,

Send me the address, and I’ll come right now.

Simon

As I stared at the emails on my phone, I contemplated not showing up. Having the cocky, grumpy, irresistibly handsome Simon Cambridge as my boss for the next thirty days would test every part of me, and I wasn’t sure I would last two days without ripping him to pieces or ripping his shirt off. And I wasn’t really sure which one I wanted to do most.

I received an Advance Review Copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Where to start? The beginning was a bit much for me with their back and forth bickering. If it wasn’t for this being an ARC, I may have just shelved it. I’m glad I persevered otherwise I would have missed out on a good rom-com, laugh out loud story.

A chance meeting, followed by a night on the town leads to Gemma Whitestone losing a bet to Simon Cambridge and is now his personal assistant for the next thirty days.

Gemma is a strong, independent woman aspiring to be a designer of dog clothes and accessories. She has been cheated on and gas-lighted by her ex, so her self esteem is in the pits. She doesn’t see what everyone else around her. She is a beautiful woman with a kind soul. Her good nature and fiery spirit is what drew Simon in.

Simon Cambridge is a workaholic with a wall built around his heart. He had a sad life. Abandoned as an infant, then adopted with his two brothers into a family that were only after child-labor. He suffered abuse both physical and mental. With his two adopted brothers, they were determined to make something of themselves. Now many years later, he is a successful businessman with woman throwing themselves at him. Well, most women.

When fate decided to throw Gemma into his path twice, he was drawn to her beauty and something else. “She was an enigma, and I wanted to get to know her better. I wanted to know what made her tick. I wanted to know who had hurt her, made her defensive and more cautious. She made me feel protective and brought out an inner wolf inside me that I hadn’t know existed. I wanted to hold her close and protect her from the world, and I didn’t know why.”

As the days pass, their sexual chemistry heightens. A business trip away is the perfect opportunity for them both to get each other out of their system, but one night is never enough. A text from the ex, causes Simon distrusting nature into overdrive and he purposely creates drama but Gemma ‘sees' him and the moment is forgotten.

After an unexpected meeting with a stranger, Gemma is anxiously waiting to talk with Simon but unknown to her, Simon had already been told that she was on a date. Presuming it was her ex, Simon decides to treat her like the ALPHA-HOLE he can be. His actions break her heart but regardless she still writes him a letter explaining her truth.

Realizing how wrong he is, Simon has to try and win back the woman he has fallen in love with. “She would never know how much her words meant to me, but if the feeling in my heart never came again, I wouldn’t mind. Because I would always have this moment to hold close to me.”

Actions speak louder than words and Simon needs to let down his walls if he has a chance to win back the one person who sees him just as much as his brothers. The one person who can calm him, make him laugh and relax. The one person who will love him for him and never leave.

What I liked most about this story is Gemma’s realization that she is worth it. That regardless that she had been cheated on, made to feel worthless and overweight, there is always someone who will love her for her. Within thirty days, Simon is able to build her confidence and make her see that she is worth more than a lying cheating scumbag of an ex. She is worth having someone believe in and support her in all that she wants to achieve.

And with Simon...realizing that family is not always about blood but about those who you choose to have around you.

Absolutely loved this book. The banter between Simon and Gemma is not only witty but it’s quite entertaining. Simon and Gemma accidentally bump into each other in the street and then again at a club. Neither one could forget about their original chance meeting. A bet is... See more

I really wish I hadn’t read this book. The characters were so immature and the H legit behaved like a petulant child. The entire story felt disjointed like multiple people wrote it and it wasn’t connecting. The h flip flopped a lot with her moods and I didn’t find her inspiring or with a backbone to stand up for herself. We need stronger female leads who won’t take a man back after a month of flowers and a quick proposal after he HUMILIATED you!

A fun contemporary romance. Dual point of view. Gemma and Simon meet and end up with her having to work for him! She lost a bet and has to work for him for 30 days, but with a nice paycheck!
I enjoyed the banter and angst between Simon and Gemma. The storyline is a great page turner. I loved the flow of their relationship and growing romance. The secondary characters were terrific and make for another book. A definite must read for every romance lover.

Simon and Gemma’s story was so incredibly cute and there passive aggressive banter was so funny. These two get off to a not so great start but next time they bump into each other even though it’s still not great lol this time ends a little different

The description sounded fun, so I added it to my digital TBR, and when I was in a frenzy looking for something engaging and short to read, I chose this one on a whim.

Well, as hopeful as I was, I found myself wanting to DNF at 20 % and actually DNF-ing at 25 %.
It didn't pull me in, it didn't amuse me, I wasn't willing to wait around and suffer through what will inevitably be a disappointment.

Gemma is immature, Simon is too crass, too cocky.
I already frowned at him when he didn't mind looking at naked pics an employee sent him whose advances and sexual harassment he was complaining about just moments before.
I already frowned at Gemma when she mentioned her dream job – kinda ridiculous – and especially when she let her friend talk her into Tequila shots after she stated that Tequila goes to her head. Both of them are irresponsible and annoying. Don't get me started on Gemma and Simon's second encounter, at the club. That did me in.

And judging by the reviews I looked at, it won't get better. Usually I'm loath to DNF and opt to continue instead to give the book a chance, especially after I already read a substantial chunk of the story that's not very long in the first place. But I'm still regretting not DNF-ing a much longer, hyped book last week that had also made me contemplate DNF-ing at 25 %, so I'm fresh out of second chances. And simply continuing in this case because I don't know what else to read – the same reason I started it in the first place – won't do more than waste my time and probably add a two-star read to my reading year, so I'm out.

The beginning of the book was fun to read but then I got bored.
The dialogues feel really fake and the reactions unrealistic.
Also, I reaaaaally disliked Simon (MMC) who's nothing but a man child. At one point he says that he "doesn't want to play games" but that's literally all he does. He's hot and cold and it has given me whiplash.
Also what kind of friend is Stasia?! "don't forgive him, he said that you're a gold digger".... "HE BOUGHT YOU A PLOT OF LAND, forgive him!"

This the story of Gemma Whitestone and Simon Cambridge was one amazingly, awesome story. I love the plot and also how it developed. This was to me a great romantic comedy. Simon and Gemma literally run into one another on the street. He spills his coffee on himself and on her. Gemma is a struggling young lady in Los Angeles and Simon is a multimillionaire. Simon is as J.S. the author puts it, grumpy, cocky and irresistibly handsome. He is an orphan who was adopted by farmers and the closest people to him are his two brothers that were adopted along with him when he was seven, Sebastian and Elijah. Elijah lives in England and comes to visit often. But we never get to see him in this story. Sebastian and Elijah are partners with Simon in his commercial and residential Real Estate conglomerate. His business is actually a real estate and construction business, which is worth millions of dollars. Gemma lived with her best friend since middle school. They both attended middle school and high school in England and because Gemma's mother was an American, they both attended Columbia University. After they finished school at Columbia, they moved together to Los Angeles to live out their dreams. Gemma want to design outfits for pets, dogs, etc. Stasia her best friend was a designer and was really pretty good at it but they both needed start up money to get their business started. This story made me laugh and cry. Simon made me angry and then I had to forgive him because of what we find out about why he acted the way he does. When you have been given up when you are a child and go from one foster home to another until a couple adopts him to and his brothers Elijah and Sebastian so they could have someone to work their farm. It was a hard life for those young men but they survived. So Simon never new what real love is, so he thinks he doesn't know how to love because he never felt like he was loved. This turned out to be a very interesting and loveable story. This was not just a good read it was great. I highly recommend this book.

This is the start to Thirty Days To Love and if this is an indicator I will be getting all four books although, a warning you may not want to have any drink in your mouth or attempting to drink anything throughout certain parts of this book because you will find yourself spitting it all out laughing so just take it into consideration also, once you start you won’t stop until the last page has been turned. Simon and Gemma run into each other instead of apologizing to one another they argue over who is at fault …yep told you sit back get comfortable for this roller coaster ride. Simon sexy as all get out venture capitalist a workaholic running his company along side his brothers and running into the feisty yet very intriguing women wasn’t apart of his plans but fate ensured they would meet. Gemma intelligent, sweet when she wants to be with plans of starting a business designing and making clothes for fur babies running into the frustrating yet sexy guy in the club wasn’t apart of her plans yet fate again made sure they met in the way they did ending up with them placing a bet for a bowling match he wins she works as his assistant for 30 days and if she wins he pays her simple right …..nope not so simple 😊 but fun. Simon of course wins and this is where the fun begins, the teasing, the back and forth will have you laughing so hard and responding in your mind with a snarky remark but is it enough will she honor their bet, will they act on that magnetic pull between them because the attraction gets intense at times, there is a misunderstanding but will they communicate to get through it or will it stop everything they are feeling, and where are they headed to a HEA?

Despite my star rating, this book is pretty highly rated by others, so take my star rating with a grain of salt. I liked this book to be honest, and it was also pretty funny and entertaining because of all the banter, teasing, and flirting.

Simon was a fun and hilarious MMC, but I think Gemma brought that side of him out - she made him feel alive. He was also very broken due to not being wanted by his parents as a baby and not having a loving adoptive family, so that is discussed in various parts of the book. It’s evident that he typically hid his hurt and pain on the inside, while on the outside, he was a successful millionaire boss and workaholic. And Gemma was a strong FMC and came across as an introverted homebody. She tended to let loose a bit with Simon although it was scary for her due to her most recent breakup with an asshole.

I really liked Gemma, as well as Simon, but my qualm with him is that he would jump to conclusions in certain parts of the book and just freeze Gemma out. In the third act break up, he was a fucking douchebag and POS to her on purpose, which really pissed me off - especially when she took time apart from him but still took him back in the end. Like… he was super horrible to her. So yeah. Another thing I didn’t really understand or like I guess, is that the book would be going at a good pace, then when you got to the spice, it was like it started then gone in a blink. It was weird. And then when it was like that when Gemma would take him back after he froze her out at various points of the story. It was kind of like emotional whiplash at times lol. So that’s why I gave it 3 stars … I liked it and I may recommend it, but it wasn’t a book that I thought was really great (4) or spectacular (5)… it was good (3). 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is book one in The Thirty Days To Love Series and it is Simon and Gemma’s story and what a great start to a new series and definitely a must read. Simon and Gemma meet when he suddenly stops to look at his phone and she bumps in to him spilling her coffee all over him and after there outbursts to each other they walk away thinking that they will never meet again. When Gemma’s friend Stasia decide to have a night out at a club imagine there surprise when Simon and Sebastian are there as well and even though Gemma wasn’t impressed as her and Simon constantly bickered she ended up just going with the flow. When Simon made a bet with Gemma she wasn’t expecting to loose and ended up agreeing to work for him for thirty days. The more time that they spend together the closer they get and the stronger the chemistry between them grows and then a misunderstanding tears everything apart as Simon has big trust issues because of his past. They are so perfect for each other but will they ever be able to talk things through and sort out the misunderstanding or have they lost out on something special with no way of getting back together. I laughed and cried while reading this book but still I couldn’t put it down and had to keep turning the pages as it was so addictive and an amazing story and outcome and I can’t wait to read the next book in this amazing series.

Simon & Gemma literally run into each other in the street in LA and argue over who is at fault. Simon is a handsome venture capitalist who is obsessed with his business that he owns with his adopted brothers. Gemma plans to start a business where she designs and make clothing for dogs. Gemma & Simon run into each other at a nightclub where he hits on her and she rejects his advances while they dance, drink, and engage in snarky conversations. He is attracted to her and they agree on a bet for a bowling match where he will pay her if he loses but she will have to act as his assistant for 30 days if he wins. When Simon wins the bet he likes to tease her as her boss but Gemma has comebacks ready for him. Will Simon be able to convince Gemma about his feelings for her or will misunderstandings tear them apart?

I enjoyed the relationships between Gemma and her roommate as well as Simon and his adopted brothers. I especially liked the teasing and flirting between Simon and Gemma as they got to know each other. In the beginning of the story I was not impressed with Gemma but I got to like her much better as the story progressed. This was a great story and the epilogue was a great ending for their story and gave hints for the next book in the series.

I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

I'm a fan of J.S. Cooper's books so it was no surprise that this series would catch my attention. Thirty Day Boss was a quick yet satisfying read. As the first book in the series, I found the author did a great job setting up the next 3 books. She provided just enough about the upcoming characters so that you would want to pick up the next book immediately (book 3 and 4 have yet to be published). As for the story, I liked that Gemma, the female lead in this story, was a slightly heavier character. The book did not over exaggerate this fact, it was something that was used sporadically throughout the story and J.S. Cooper did a great job with how she wrote about it. Simon, the male lead, was actually a likeable guy until his ego was bruised and then his angry vindictive side kicked in. That lasted for about 2 pages until Gemma's best friend Stasia clears her name and smacks some sense into Simon. The story had all the elements you would want from this type of book, the leads meet for the first time, they then happen to run into each other again which of course then drives them to not be able to stay away from each other. Some misunderstanding happens which pulls them apart because of a lack of communication and trust, and then the groveling begins in order to win each other back! There's also an epilogue that sets-up book two.

I received this ebook ARC, from the author, on the condition that I write an honest review.
This is a lovely story, written by J. S. Cooper, about a couple who start their relationship by bumping into each other, and fall in love.
Simon is a workaholic CEO of a company, a business that he shares with his two brothers/friends. Given up for adoption, he becomes close with two of his fellow adoptive brothers. Life is hard while they are youths, but as men, they overcome all odds, and become wealthy businessmen, and confirmed bachelors.
Gemma is a young girl sharing an apartment with her best friend. They struggle financially, but live a happy life. One day Gemma bumps into Simon, and she gets feisty with him, and this draws his attention to her. A couple of day’s later, they meet again at a nightclub, and their attraction to each other heats up.
Because of a bet, Gemma must work with Simon as his Personal Assistant. This closeness begins to develop a relationship between the couple. Through many obstacles and distrust they finally overcome their problems and re-establish their relationship, and finally reach their HEA.

Their Foreplay To Happiness -
The relationship between Gemma and Simon had been adversarial from the moment they met, but their competitive edges led them to make a bet, which meant they had to spend an inordinate amount of time together. Their chemistry was palpable and I felt it was heated enough to burn your fingers, as you turn the pages. They both had baggage from the past, but it seemed that Simon was able to open up to Gemma, which started bring down his walls.

Unfortunately, a misunderstanding borne out of a woman’s jealous misguided actions, created friction between them and nearly cost them the happiness. I really enjoyed reading this story from the beginning until the end, as the banter between all the characters was fascinating, the level of spice in the story was set at the right level and the story was truly exceptional. I am really looking forward to reading Stasia and Sebastian’s story next. This is a book the definitely deserves to be recommended.

Gemma's best friend Stacia suggests going to a club one night to let their hair down. Who should she bump into! Simon and his brother Sebastian were on a night out at the same club. Simon challenges Gemma to a game of bowling and there is a bet that whoever wins will have a forfeit. Gemma lost the bet and ends up having to work for Simon for 30 days! She has no qualifications for the job at all. After a lot of arguments, misunderstandings and make ups they do get their HEA. The chemistry between the two is great. I loved the storyline. You get to meet the other girls, Stacia, Holly and Claire. I can't wait for the next in the series for Stacia and Sebastian.

“Do I look like a car?”

From their first snarky meeting it was obvious Gemma and Simon had chemistry and that remained the one constant throughout. There was a lot to laugh about when I wasn’t annoyed with them for their ridiculous behavior. I know Simon has issues stemming from his childhood but I seriously wanted to shake some sense into him. Talk about self-sabotage! I was proud of Gemma for standing up to him like she did. Way to go, girl!

As the first in the series, this book sets the tone and introduces us to a very interesting and promising cast of characters. In addition to the obvious next couple, Stasia and Sebastian, there is also work friends Holly and Claire, Simon’s elusive other brother, Elijah, and another character I can’t say much about without spoiling this book. I personally have a feeling there is some kind of history between Claire and Elijah, but nothing is actually said so it might just be me and my overactive imagination. What I do know is I’m really looking forward to the other books in the series.

Perfect Bet-

4.25 stars, 3 spice - Simon is a millionaire workaholic. Gemma accidentally spills her coffee on him on the street. They randomly bump into each other at a club. Simon is intrigued and they make a bet. Gemma loses and has to be Simon’s assistant for the next 30 days.

Both of them are hiding deep seated hurt. Gemma had the world’s worst boyfriend. Simon had awful adoptive parents. Their bickering is hilarious. The business setting is rather unrealistic. My favorite part was when Simon calls Gemma’s bluff and takes her hiking in Colorado.

Gemma definitely overshares her life with Simon with his real employees, which is not cool. Simon treats Gemma very badly whenever he’s overwhelmed with emotion or hurt. Gemma is definitely too good for him. But I agree with Simon that her dog clothing company idea is pretty silly.

Overall, it is a lighthearted good time. I will be reading the next one about Statia and Sebastian and hope Holly and Clair get books too.

Addictive rom-com. I enjoyed this, first in a series, story of snarky Gemma and affluent businessman, Simon whose first meeting in distinctly inauspicious! Their second isn’t much better, in a club where they have both been drinking. Simon challenges mouthy Gemma to a bet – which she loses – condemning her to thirty days as his assistant. I loved the banter between the two, especially the text conversations they have; they bring out the best and worst in each other – Simon is emotionally stunted due to his past and Gemma will not trust in a relationship due to a recent betrayal. Despite this I really enjoyed the way they change each other for the better. There were moments I actually laughed out loud –especially when Gemma (who is not good at prevaricating on the spot) tells whopping lies to try and get out of doing things! An enjoyable read with a satisfying HEA. Can’t wait to read the next book about Gemma’s best friend & Simon’s adopted brother.

I received this arc for an honest review. This is the first book of the 30 day series. Gemma and Simon literally bump into each other and sparks fly from the get go. They banter to and fro then meet again in a club few days later. A bet is placed and that’s where the 30 days comes into play. Gemma and Simon are so different personality and status wise but they do share the fact they’ve both been hurt by family in different ways. There’s trust issues and some jealousy. I enjoyed the concept of the book ,different from what I’ve read before, the humour, the laugh out loud moments and the beautiful narratives that miss cooper is known for are still there along with some steamy moments. Surprised by the little twist towards the end of the story. Read the epilogue too, quite cute although it doesn’t add much to Gemma and Simons hea. We did get a little snippet of the next book starring Stacia and Sebastian and I’m intrigued as I liked them both as well as their new friends.

Tropes: Billionaire office romance, found family
********************
Triggers: Childhood abandonment, ex cheating, emotional cruelty, adult language and situations
********************
Favorite quote: “…if we knew why men were jackasses, maybe we’d be the millionaires.”
********************
I wanted to love this. It was well paced with an interesting set-up, and I really liked the FMC Gemma. But Simon, as much as I tried to love him, is a narcissistic jackass. I don’t think the author made him grovel and suffer enough to win her back after he intentionally broke her heart and humiliated her. The sub plot with the newly discovered twin brother didn’t fit, and it just added another layer of chaos. Sorry, the forced reconciliation ending was bad enough to make a good novel a mediocre one at best.

Movie rating R, cover 3/5 overall 3/5, romance 2/5, violence 0/5, and 1/5 spice. Don’t recommend.

Simon and Gemma literally bump into each other on the street and have a rather feisty conversation, then they run into each other again in a club, where the sexual attraction is obvious, Simon proposes a bet and Gemma loses and has to work as his assistant for thirty days.
The conversations between Gemma and Simon, are, at times hilarious. Gemma tends to speak without thinking and drops whopping lies to get out of things, getting her into situations with Simon that had me laughing out loud.
Both Simon and Gemma have bad history that prevents them from trusting love, the twists and turns that this book goes through to give us the story, along with the supporting characters of Simon’s brothers and Gemma’s friends made this a one day read for me, could not flip those pages fast enough.
Highly recommend.

Another great book from JS Cooper. It won't take you long to get emotionally involved with Gemma and Simon. It was hate at first sight especially since she spilled hot coffee all over his shirt. Not to mention that it was his fault. The drama just began with these two as their lives intercept. The attraction is there and their chemistry is explosive. Lots of abandonment, trust and insecurity issues. Throw in some angst, miscommunication and drama as the story continues. A family surprise that Gemma uncovers and more. This is a great story that draws you in at the beginning and keeps you page turning. Emotional at times and great banter between the two main characters. Eventually an HEA that you will like. I read a free advance copy via the author and I voluntarily chose to review it.

What happens when a bet goes right? Or did it go wrong? Gemma Whitestone has a chance encounter when she literally bumps into Simon Cambridge. After words about who’s going to pay for what, her coffee or his shirt, Simon gets Gemma to help him out with a persistent, unwanted female, and they go their separate ways. But a chance encounter at the club that night leads to the bet. Simon just wants to see where it can go when he offers Gemma a bet that he can beat her. If he wins, she works for him for 30 days, if she wins, cash. For Gemma, it’s an easy bet to take, she needs the money. When she loses the bet, she has to spend time trying to NOT be attracted to him. The story is a wonderful Billionaire meets girl story with some funny interactions between them. I couldn’t put it down.

ok plot, mediocre execution

The basic premise of this was intriguing, but the execution lost me & I struggled to finish this. The writing felt clunky and to much stated rather than shown, with some insignificant things overly detailed and more significant stuff sometimes given short shrift. The sexy scenes were also oddly male-porno-esque: fast, pounding, and felt a bit unsatisfying for someone. This was odd because some of the buildup scenes had been promising. The heroine also had an oddly specific bit not promising business plan. The plotted character arc for the hero was also decent, but he was too all over the place, hot/cold, for me to be rooting for their success. There were no notable typos. But this isn't an author I will be looking for more from at this point.

Gemma and Simon's love story.
I loved this book!
I read lots of billionaires' books and stories but this one is the best, till now.
Simon is not the usual billionaire, born into a rich family. He's a self-made man and a workaholic who trusts no one other than his chosen brothers. Yes chosen, because the three of them were orphans abandoned by their true parents. And he's hot too, and knows it!
Then he met Gemma, a beautiful and sassy girl that had no fear to speak her mind and he won a bet... And now he's her boss for thirty days! I laughed a lot, I cried a bit, and felt all the emotions of a tender love story!
I won't spoil the plot, but if you're a romantic soul you'll love it!
I received an arc copy, and I'm giving my true opinion on it.
