DIRTY DEVIL BROKEN KNIGHT ANGRY GOD
L.J. Shen is a New York Times, USA Today, WSJ, Washington Post and #1 Amazon Kindle Store bestselling author of contemporary romance books.
She writes angsty books, unredeemable anti-heroes who are in Bill Gates's tax bracket, and sassy heroines who bring them to their knees (for more reasons than one).
Tropes: high school romance, dark bully romance, enemy to lover, second chance romance, morally grey MMC, found family, forced proximity
Review: L.J. Shen brings us back to All Saints High with the all new cover revamp of this iconic bully romance series that also includes new bonus material! Pretty Reckless is a dark and deviant high-school bully romance that will shred your insides and spit you out. Daria and Penn are an emotional rollercoaster of high school angst, lust, and snarky banter.
Daria is the golden daughter of All Saints High and is dubbed the Ice Queen when we meet her. I found her story to be full of heartbreak and deep seated pain since she never sees herself as good enough in anything she does. L.J. did a great job with her character growth in this book as her carefully constructed life begins to unravel when Penn comes to live with them. The dynamic between Daria, her family and Penn was full of hidden feelings and intense longing that eventually imploded with her shedding her “unfeeling” appearance. I appreciated how Daria’s story was full of inner commentary since a huge piece of her arc was overcoming her judgments of others and herself. Getting to see her inner feelings about how cold Penn was upon their reunion allows us to understand how the first chink in her armor began and I enjoyed how his actions at school continued weakening that shield of ice she had.
Penn is the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks and I loved his story of growth and acceptance. His character toes the line of morally grey and deviant but also softens considerably (much to his displeasure) when in Daria’s presence. The way he pushes her to keep her away was done in a way that showed the consequences of bully romances but also never crossed a line for too much. I enjoyed how his actions were spurred on by him being afraid of falling for her again and not wanting to get hurt. The way L.J. unfolded the events after Daria hurt him was done perfectly since it was gradual and made us guess at the true events that occurred. Another aspect I enjoyed about him was the devotion he had to his sister and keeping her safe, the tragedy that occurs with her at the beginning truly set up his character in this book.
This is a HAWT romance for a high school aged couple. The dynamic between Daria and Penn is very antagonistic at first and I loved how Penn was adamant to deny the pull he had towards her. I loved all the banter that L.J. creates between them since they are like Fire and Ice” when they clash. The way Daria’s walls were broken down was perfect since it restructured the way she saw herself and others, I also thought Penn pushing her to accept her faults was one of the best developmental aspects in their story.
Rating: 4.5/5, a romance full of the high school angst we all love to hate!

Author: L.J. Shen
Couple: Luna Rexroth & Knight Cole
Tropes: addiction rep, high school romance, childhood best friends, second chance, first love and soul mates, football romance
Review: Knight Cole is the epitome of broken boy tropes and LJ Shen did his story justice in this second book in the All Saints High series. From the ups and downs at home to the upheaval with his childhood best friend moving away to college, this book is chock full of emotional angst and turmoil. This book is not as dark as the others in this series in terms of bullying and high school drama but has its own triggers that added to the beauty of this book. Luna and Knight are a couple who will stick in your head long after you finish and will make you want to read the next book in the series!
Knight and Luna are the poster children for childhood best friends. I adored the way their relationship transcended time and how they always found their way back to the other. While Knight needed time to find himself and become a better version of him after losing his mother, the way LJ wrote his story and all his struggles kept me enraptured. His story is heartbreaking and heartwarming all at once and the raw feels his POV drug out of me kept me turning pages. The way LJ was able to create the darkness in his story while not sensationalizing the topics of addiction, depression and loss added depth to who he was and made his road to recovery that much better.
The relationship Luna and Knight have is tumultuous at first since both are going through so many life changing events. I found the growth of their relationship to be what drove this book forward. The way Luna wanted the best for him and pushed him to become sober was what broke my heart since Knight had so much turmoil to unravel. I also enjoyed the innate understanding they both had with the other. I found their jokes and teasing to bring levity to this book when needed and appreciated how LJ brought them back together at the end. This book is great for anyone who loves the angst of high school romances but my personal favorite in this series is Vaughn and Lenny’s romance in the next book, Angry God!
Rating: 4/5, a broken boy romance with a HEA well earned!

Couple: Lenora Astalis & Vaughn Spencer
Tropes: high school romance, bully romance, dark romance, tortured artist, bad boy x good girl, found family, morally gray MMC
Review: Lenny and Vaughn are two storm clouds in the California sun. LJ gives us the perfect blend of starving artist and high school bully romance in this third book in the All Saints High series. The angst between Lenny and Vaughn out does all the other couples and I LOVED the back and forth between them throughout the entire book.
Vaughn Spencer. Arrogant. Cold. Dark and broody. So many delicious ways to describe this mortal god among men but nothing quite does him justice for his character in this story. As a rabid LJ fan, I was looking forward to this book since reading Vicious, Vaughn’s father’s book, and can safely say that LJ did not disappoint with creating his tumultuous feelings for Lenny. From the instant “dislike” he tried so hard to force to his reluctance to fully commit to his devious plans to push her out of school, he was able to suck me into his plotting as he navigated his true feelings for the Astalis prodigy child.
Lenny was a FMC who surprised me with how much I loved her story. I found the mutual dislike she had for Vaughn since meeting as children to be a HUGE point in her favor. LJ was able to really create some amazing tension between them, especially on Lenny’s side, when Vaughn starts to grow closer to her father while working on his next sculpture. The turmoil LJ was able to develop within Lenora in regards to her feelings surrounding her art and her father not choosing her was heartbreaking but also a huge turning point in this book since it finally pushes Lenny over her line.
The push and pull relationship Vaughn and Lenny have is HAWT. From the snarky comments and the darker humor they share in their deadpan style deliveries, there is never a dull moment in this book. I found the way LJ had their story span years to be vital since we needed to know what event set Vaughn off as a child but I also loved reading about how Lenny dealt with having to work as his assistant. The slow burn attraction they shared was perfect for these two and when the match is finally sparked, Vaughn is just the right amount of depraved for Lenny’s darker side. The HEA LJ gave these two was heart wrenching and fitting for a dark god and his eternal light. I’m sad to see these two go but am excited to get the next book in this series!
Rating: 100+, Vaughn Spencer for life! These two will forever be my favorite in this series!
Partie 2 - Broken Knight
