I hate Grayson Knight with a passion. Ever since he pulled a prank on me as kids, I’ve kept him in the mortal enemy category, and we both prefer it that way. Now we’re seniors in high school and he’s still the same immature jerk. I avoid him as much as possible, but when an argument turns ugly and lands us in detention together, I know my life is over—especially when my dad, the city’s police sergeant, finds out.
I have no idea how we’ll get through this, so I’m surprised when Grayson comes to my rescue after I’m cornered by a sleazy basketball player. Suddenly, the boy I’ve always hated isn’t the enemy. If seeing him with new eyes isn’t confusing enough, a secret kiss sends everything scrambling, leaving me to figure out what I want, and if I can even have it. Because Grayson isn’t like other boys—and I’m starting to find out why.
C.G. Coppola writes realistic fiction set in fantastical universes, usually with a lot of kissing. A fan of action stories, she weaves magic and the paranormal into her romantic works, leading readers on a steamy adventure. Married with two fur-babies, C.G. Coppola lives in Florida where she grew up and attended college.
This is a cute novella about two seniors in high school whose animosity for each other land them in detention together. Robin has hated Grayson since he pranked her in front of their class in grade school. She despises him, and he delights in teasing her and egging her on. When they finally stop taking digs at each other, they realize their enemy is actually a person and the ice begins to melt between them. But can Robin trust Grayson, or is he just running a long con on her?
I enjoyed this quick read. The author does a great job building the animosity, and apathy, between the duo. I enjoyed their banter, although it did get excessive at times. I liked Robin and Grayson a lot more once they both chilled out a bit, and started acting a bit more reasonably. I especially liked it when they showed each other their vulnerable side, and when Grayson protects Robin from bullies. There is also a mystery surrounding a vigilante plaguing the police department that provides some interesting teasers toward the end of the book. I look forward to seeing where that leads in the next book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Romance Me With Books and the author. All opinions are my own.
This book was sent to me by voracious readers only
This book follows Robin who hates Grayson because of an incident when they were 10. When they get into an altercation they end up in detention together. She has hated him for years. Yet all of that appears to vanish when he kisses her and that sets off a chain of events she never expected.
A cute but steamy rivals to lovers novel that sets up the events of a series (apparently). I absolutely loved this book it was fantastic. The characters and the relationship were so easy to love.
The story is well paced and that helped me to read it very quickly. I enjoyed the atmosphere that the author created. Also the descriptions for me are very well balanced.
I knew the story will revolve around teenagers so i didn't have high hopes for them to be mature and to see some development at least not in the first book. And for me this is exactly what i got - teenagers with hormones having fun and creating chaos.
Robin is interesting female protagonist that i got attached to. The author managed to give depth to her character. Something i kind of missed in some of the other characters in the story.
The secondary characters are there but not present enough.
What i found disappointing is that i expected some paranormal element and we had something but i believed it will be more present then it was. I know this is a first book but still i felt something was missing.
Somehow i found the story too short. I wanted more from the world, the characters, the mystery.
Just more in general.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Roblin Drake and Grayson Knight have had a history, beginning with 5th grade, that has fueled an animosity that between them which has carried through the years well into the final months of their senior year of high school, but it is all about to change…. A juvenile prank Grayson played on Robin made her a target, all through school, thanks to Grayson’s teasing. But his cronies went even further with their bullying, heckling and finally ugly sexual remarks thrown her way. The final straw for Robin was when Grayson took the last chocolate cookie on the lunch line! The argument ended in a food fight between them and after school detention for both of them. Robin’s father, a local Police Sergeant, would be so disappointed, she’d always been a good student and was never in trouble and now this changed too. Her father was already facing talk about a local vigilante/hero, Black Coyote, who seemed to get to the scene of the crime first, captured the suspect and left them for the police. Now working afterschool on the decorations for the Homecoming Dance right next to Grayson for two whole weeks, was going to take all the patience she could muster. That is until Grayson cornered her and kissed her; much to her chagrin, a kiss she willingly returned. Would things change at school now that Grayson was interested in her? Would his cohorts continue with their obnoxious behavior? And why was Grayson so intent on getting her alone one minute and then suddenly needed to be somewhere else? What was he hiding? Welcome to high school angst, bullies, hookups, and small-town secrets. At first Grayson and Robin felt a bit younger than their eighteen years, to me, in their behavior and attitudes until they shared their first kiss, when Grayson seemed to see his actions and others for what they were, bids for attention at someone else’s expense. Robin’s penchant for sharing everything that transpired between her and Grayson with her best friend Hailey, felt like the actions of a younger teen. This coming of age tale does show that both Robin and Grayson realized that changes needed to be made and were headed in that direction. C.C. Coppola hadn’t intended to write a story that included vigilantes, in incognito, but somehow, they just seemed to sneak into the tale, adding a twist that brought some intriguing characters to the storyline. And this is just the beginning. There are more tales to come with Black Coyote and a Quick Claw, as well I hope with Grayson and Robin. I know I will be looking forward to more reading more of their stories. I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion of this story, in my opinion as a Children’s/Young Adult Librarian, this is a book that could certainly have appeal for older teens/New Adults. However, there are a few triggers, some steamy scenes between the main characters, bullying in a high school setting and a few instances of sexual harassment of female students.
✔️ Enemies to Lovers ✔️ Secret Romance ✔️ Forced Proximity
I am sooooo on board with this universe. I am a massive Spider-Man fan, and I instantly thought of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man when we first get mentions of a vigilante, cleaning up the crime in the city. This is a novella, and a spin off the authors soon to be main series. The vigilante is the main character in the main series.
This novella follows around two 18 year old teens, Robin and Grayson, who are in senior year of high school. Boy, do they act like teens. All of the drama, over the top emotions, banter and lust... Oh brings me back to those days. Robin's dad is a police officer, and a vigilante is out running around the city, the police unable to catch them. Grayson is zip-up sweater wearing, moody and broody "tough guy". Soooo not a boy a police officer would want his daughter to be with. Not to mention Robin still holds a grudge again Grayson for some silly, embarrassing thing he did to her in 5th grade. And she hates even the thought of getting into trouble.
It was fun, I wish it was longer! I would say this is a YA/NA novella because it does have some spice. I would have ate this up when I was younger. But I still enjoyed the characters and the story. It was a really fun way to get hype about a new series. I'm over here waiting for the spring to get my hands on the next book!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4.5/5

In the Moment Before is a companion novella for CG Coppola’s upcoming series The Coyote and the Claw which will be released in March of 2023. Set in modern day Florida, it follows Robin Drake, a senior in high school, as she is forced to spend time interacting with her arch nemesis, Grayson Knight. Hate quickly turns to passion as the two are unable to deny their attraction.
This book was absolutely adorable in a RomCom movie sort of way. It very much reminded me of 10 Things I Hate About You and I absolutely loved every moment of it. Robin and Grayson have amazing chemistry, and even though the spice in the book is relatively mild, it is steamy.
The thing I loved the most about this novella was how the characters truly felt like high school students, from their reactions to the way they talked. It made the whole book that much more enjoyable. I was never taken out of the story by out of place dialogue or actions, and it helped keep me engaged as I read.
This novella can be read in a day (at least I read it in a day) and in my opinion is a must for anyone who loves a classic RomCom where the boy and the girl start out hating each other only to discover they were meant to be.
Grayson Knight became Robin Drake's mortal enemy in fifth grade the day he pulled a prank on her. Now they're seniors in high school, and he continues to be an insufferable prankster. When they have an argument that ends with them both having detention together, Robin thinks her life as she knows it is over. Until one day after school, Robin is cornered by a basketball player, and Grayson comes to her rescue. Then they share a kiss that leaves her mind spinning. Now Robin is wondering if Grayson really is the enemy.
There's nothing I love more than a great enemies to lovers romance and In the Moment Before embodied this trope perfectly. Robin and Grayson are two high school seniors who have been enemies since fifth grade. When they do talk to each other, their banter is incredible. Once they finally kiss, their chemistry is electric. There is some mild spice in this book. This series is the companion spinoff of the Coyote and Claw series, where we were briefly introduced to some of the characters in this series. The main purpose of this book was mostly relationship development between Grayson and Robin. I'm excited to see where book two leads us.
The first sentence of the book is "I HATE GRAYSON KNIGHT." and I'm thinking "girl, sit down, you're probably overreacting". Well, I stand corrected. I thought Grayson being a jerk was probably a front to blend in with his a-hole friends, but I'm still waiting on the part where he stops being an ass.
This story is a classic case of the popular boy who falls for the nerdy (but hot) girl. I wish the characters had a little more chemistry because except for them being nasty with one another, there's just nothing that gives the impression that they are actually starting to like each other. Grayson basically gaslighted her into thinking that she liked him and now she's suddenly shoving all the red flags under the carpet and keeping him around because, let's be real, she's horny.
That being said, I'm still going to give book 2 a chance because I'm curious about the vigilante and the paranormal that's supposed to make its appearance.
I received a review copy of this book and I have written this review voluntarily.
This quickread is part of a bigger story. It can be read alone, but there are some references to other characters in the series.
The entire story is from a single POV, Robin. She is a high school student who is ready to be done with high school and be away from the boy who created the single most embarrassing moment of her life. To say she dislikes him is an understatement. She has a visceral reaction when he is around. Their first interaction was more than explosive.
I did feel like she was a little hard to like because she refused to believe that a person could change after the events of the past. Greyson did not make it any easier because he would not own up to his part in the embarrassment.
When they are forced to work together is when things really start getting interesting. When he becomes the hero for her she has to reevaluate her feelings.
This was a good read. I enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to the others in the series.
Wow! I was not expecting to enjoy this storyline the way that I did and for it to give me these nostalgic early CW days feels. (Think Smallville etc)
Robin slowly starts to question her years long hate the more time she spends with Grayson who is far from perfect honestly but there's definitely a backstory as to why.
You see the lengths he's willing to go to to protect her and show in his own small ways that he does care for her.
My main wish is that Robin pressed more into their past with each other and didn't melt quite as quickly as it came across. But then again if teenage me was around Grayson, I might melt just as fast.
When I first started this book, I wasn't sure where it was going. I don't usually read blurbs but I did this one and with the book summary along with the cover I was not really prepared for what was to come. And I definitely need more! I know this is book 1 of the series and I still have questions that I can't wait for book 2 to answer. There's also so many questions because this is a companion series and the main series hasn't come out yet either but I kind of love the author took that route because it's not predictable! I definitely can't wait for book 2!
This is a fairly run of the mill YA read. Grayson likes Robin, bullies her and teases her to get her attention, Robin loathes Grayson since. Circumstances through them together and bla bla bla. I felt that this one was lacking some depth to the story. The main characters are very present but seem to surrounded by very two dimensional characters. The vigilante aspect sould have been better developped to, as i'm pretty sure it's a big part of the next book. Not a bad read, but not great either.
I would like to thank Voracious Readers Only for a copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Robin hates Grayson since he pulled her skirt up in the fifth grade. He constantly teases her and she can't stand to be around him. When Robin gets detention for ten weeks, she is not too happy to see that Grayson is also there. Will she be able to make it through without causing Grayson bodily harm or will she give into new feelings that are surfacing? I enjoyed this book a lot and was left intrigued by the vigilante storyline that is intermingled within the romance.
At the start of the novella, Robin’s worst enemy is Grayson whom she has hated since fifth grade. They end up “fighting” during lunchtime and are punished to serve detention together.
As they spend time together, something ignites between them and lines are crossed. Robin also starts to see a different side of Grayson when he “rescues” her during various situations.
At the end of the book, an important secret is revealed and I cannot wait to read book #2 to see how their relationship progresses!
This was a quick, enjoyable read. This enemies to lovers, forced proximity, secret romance was well-paced and descriptive. The banter and chemistry between the characters added to the enemies to lovers dynamic. The book revolves around two high school students and the author did a great job accurately portraying the characters as high school students with their words and actions. This book was mildly spicy and I was thoroughly entertained by this book.
This was an amazingly written Novela. I loved the banter, the standing up to bullies for others, the suspense, vigilanties, mystery and even the new budding relationship between Robin and Grayson. It's intense between the two due to past issues between them, but the sparks start flying when Grayson takes that first step. I had a sneaking suspicion on what was going on and I was somewhat right. Now I must read the next book!
Thank you to the Author and RMW company book tours for approving this free copy!! And review is on my own!
To me, It was supposed to be a science-fiction book according to the cover. I am not a fan of sci-fi which causes me to doubt that I'm willing to read this one. But hey, I said the cover, and I haven't even read the synopsis yet🙈, so comes to the blurb that has changed my assumption before. As I found out that this book has nothing to do with sci-fi, I instantly sign up for it!!
As soon as I finished reading this one, here comes my thoughts and apparently, I just couldn't stay any longer to speak up about it. I enjoyed this book a lot! I can tell that I definitely adore the Enemies to Lovers trope and how it ended up well. Robin and Grayson are such grumpy together yet cute at the same time. I adore how Grayson protected Robin in front of everyone who tried to treat her poorly. Mainly when it comes to Kenner. I hate Roger, Byron, and Eric as they're always freaking b*** toward girls at their school. The way they made fun of girls was just unacceptable.
I would say this book can be considered as both Young Adult and New Adult. You might as well add this book to your list as I would recommend this to fans of YA/NA.
This was a quick read and this is book 1 of The Coyote and The Claw Companion Series, and the next book will be coming in June 2023. Goshhh I must be waiting for Robin and Grayson to be back for such a long period😭
Tropes: Forced Proximity, Secret Romance, Enemies to Lovers, High School Drama, Sergeant's Daughter.
TW: Profanity, Some Violence.
"Somehow, we found a way to move past what happened, past how we felt about each other for so long to get here—to this new, exciting, surprising, and terrifying place because, somehow, it’s pretty incredible."
This book was a quick read. I thought the main male character was paranormal or wolfish in character.( all that growling and aggression ) I would’ve liked a couple of more chapters in the development of the relationship. Great loves scenes ! I received a review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
An Enemies to Lovers novella about two high school students who have ad a long standing grudge. Tensions are at an all time high when the two finally snap. The main characters are forced together in detention where the sparks fly. This is just the first in the series, can’t wait to dive more into the small town vigilante that’s got everybody worked up.
Enjoyable little enemies to lovers novella. I liked how everything was from Robin's POV; it took me right back to that highschool drama mindset. I thought the steamier scenes were a little cringy at first, but that might be by design since they're from Robin's perspective..? But other than that, good! I'll be moving right into the next novella in the series 😊
I was mentally debating about giving this 3 or 4 stars and I chose to give this book 3 stars because I found the plot pretty basic and the storyline kind of wattpady but I also found it weirdly cute and kind of addicting. This book is great if you want a lighthearted enemy to lovers. The writing is also pretty great and indulging.
I thought this was a really cute and fun story and the author really captured the high school vibe. It was a super quick and easy read too which I loved. My only complaint is i wish it didnt end where it did, it was too short and i wanted to read more.
I found this to be a fun book. I went in blind so I had no clue what to expect, but it was a good story. It's about two high school students who have a grudge, and have for a long time. But when detention forces them together, holy cow. The pace is nice and it makes for a quick, simple read. It's an enemy's to lovers, along with forced proximity and secret romance. I love the banter that the character shared, it made it that much more enjoyable with the enemies to lovers portion. Make sure to check this one out.
Really enjoyed this,as far as enemies to lovers go its pretty tame but interesting and sweet. Grayson took me by surprise, especially the ending. I will be keeping an eye out for the next book in this series and others by this author.
I received this book in exchange for my free and honest review. This review is part of The Romance With Me Book Tour.
This book honestly doesn't have much of a plot. It is very much focused on the characters and developing their relationship. It is an enemies to lovers that goes 0-100 extremely quickly.
An extremely quick new adult read. I did really like Grayson's protective streak. He always managed to be in the perfect spot to save Robin, However he could definitely use some more development that he will hopefully receive in the next book in the series. There is a bit of twist at the end that will make the next book a little bit more interesting.
All in all it's not a bad little book, just not quite my style. I recommend this for New Adult readers who like a school setting and enemies to lovers.
