“I’m dead,” he said. “There’s no going back from that. A river only moves in one direction.”
Wallace whispered, “It’s easy to let yourself spiral and fall.”
“It is,” Nelson agreed. “But it’s what you do to pull yourself out of it that matters most.”
“Because you’re you, and that’s who you’re supposed to be.”

"It’s never enough, is it? Time. We always think we have so much of it, but when it really counts, we don’t have enough at all."Wallace never truly lived until he died.
In life, Wallace had been a business man - making great gains for his company at the sacrifice of anything resembling a social life. Then he died and no one seemed to really notice or care.
"But a river only moves in one direction, no matter how much we wish it weren't so."
I was surprised by this one. I picked up purely based on vibes - I liked the cover and the title - and thought it was going to be a spooky horror-filled book...and yet it was so gosh dang sweet?!
" He'd spent a majority of his life with his head turned down. It seemed only fair that eternity would allow him to raise his face toward the sky."
