If you want to read about the SAS from an operator's perspective, this may be the book for you. Focusing on the post WWII history of the Regiment, this book tells the overall history by giving you the personal experiences of about 10 of the regiments older vets. Covering Malaya, Sarawak, Oman, Northern Ireland, the Falklands and Desert Storm, you get the operational stories and details that inform the overall history. A fun handy read.

a good insight on how well trained and disaplined and wot they put themselves through just to join the sas,the book goes from selection through to various operations over the years

A quick read at 250 pages, gives a brief history of the SAS and then selection process followed by a chapter each on Borneo, Oman, Embassy siege, Northern Ireland, Falklands and Gulf War 1. Each campaign is described by 2 or 3 operators who took part. An excellent introductory to the SAS and iys achievements upto 1991 while still being a worthwhile read to the more seasoned military reader.

Do you know when your mind is elsewhere, all you want is to go back home and read a little bit more? and you sneak out to search about it? and steal some sleeping time to spend it reading? you wish to finish the book, and when it's read, you are sorry for having finished it? that's this book.
My goodness! I'm still laughing at what Snapper told Maggie (Thatcher) after the Iranian embassy siege!
