I recently received the book, "Servolution," by Dino Rizzo. If you haven't read about this great thing happening all over the country catalyzed by the people behind this book, then go check out their website at http://servolution.org/

I recommend this book to help you get a picture of the reality of what God is doing through Servolution so that you will be charged with the electricity to join in on what's happening.

I hope and pray that soon all you need to do is look around you in your community to see the impact of Servolution!

In chapter 4, I'm reminded that Servolution is all about Jesus. He was the ultimate servant even to the point of death on the cross all for our sake.

The crazy thing serving others with no strings attached will do for a church is make it grow!

Here are some factors that this chapter goes into as to why helping people will grow a church:

1. When we focus on caring for people, God takes care of the church.
2. Servolution is about expanding the kingdom, not just our church.
3. Every Christian needs to serve.
4. Servolution reminds us that it's all about Him and not about us.

God knows all of our needs, and as a good Father He seeks to care for His children. But He also wants to include us in this process by following Jesus' example of serving. The amazing thing is that God created the act of serving to be something that in turn provides our own needs! He honors our sincerety in serving Him and others in all kinds of ways from healing to growth to deeper community bonds and closer fellowship with Him.

Matthew 6:31-34 says,

"Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."

This was one of those rare finds on the dollar shelf of the used book section at our local public library. I had never heard of "Servolution" or Dino Rizzo, but the title and cover caught my eye. I bought it, and packed it in my carry-on for a cross-country flight I was taking for a work trip. I wound up reading the whole book during one flight...that never happens for me! Rizzo's story of starting a Church from scratch based on Christian service is captivating. I'm always on the lookout for books about service and volunteering - this one is full of fresh ideas, inspiration, and it is a pleasure to read. I highly recommend finding a copy, even if it means paying the full cover price. ;-)

One personal dislike was the ad nauseam repetition of the word 'servolution', but that's just a superficial thing. I wasn't really the target audience for this, but I do think it was a good pick in preparation for the missions trip I'm going on. It has uncomfortably challenging (and therefore good) parts on giving, for example, and a number of the examples of the things they describe from their experiences made me more aware of my own biases. The appendices include a list of a number of organizations they have found helpful, and a couple of them were really cool ones I hadn't been aware of at all but found fascinating.

There is a reason why this book maintains such a stellar rating among readers -- it's open and honest, insightful and inspiring. I discovered "Servolution" during a particularly pivotal point in my own "service" journey and I truly connected with Dino Rizzo's well-written, compelling and conversational style. Who knew that such an encouraging and powerful message of Christ's love could be conveyed through stories of delicious Gumbo, piles of dead rats and a man-size bowl of Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch? This was a life-changer!

An awesome book that inspires you to start serving others and meeting peoples needs. Inspiring stories of serving that make you rethink your Christianity.

This book drives home the point that "money is needed first to start serving others" is not true. A "must read" for everyone who attends church.

Very challenging examples of the practical application of Jesus ministry on earth.

Don't let the lack of scripture verses and theology fool you, this book is pretty powerful and uses the stories of "serving" to get it's theology across to the reader.

this is a pretty good book about starting a revolution in your church and sparking a nature of loving people and helping them by serving them in any and all ways possible. this tells the story (briefly) of a large church in the south and how they sparked a revolution of serving in their body of believers. it is a good read and has some good ideas for making a complete change in your church.

A challenge to create a change in your community. I was inspired by Pastor Dino's heart to serve without reservation. It is great when and author talks the walk and walks the talk, Pastor Rizo is one of those authors in my opinion. Will you answer the call to servolution?

Great look at what a group of Christians can do together. It's also a very challenging read, meaning you will be challenged when you read it. Challenged to take a step up and contribute beyond yourself.

The book reveals the need to serve the community as a way of evangelism. The principles are not new, but important to be reminded of. The key phrase I remember from the book that impacted me: "If we stop caring about who gets the credit we can achieve so much more."

The story of one church that embraced others-focused generosity.
I've filed this book next to "radical reformission" as another good inspirational personal book with a really annoying portmanteau title.
