WOW!!!! IF your want something that absolutely transforms your attitude, your endorphins, your size, This book was great! I just felt pujjy after the holidays and needed a boost.I'm 5'6. I started at 136 lbs and lost 9.5 lbs in 6 days and absolutely loved what I was eating. His plan is EAT to lose weight. I was having the most beautiful Simple meals. one of the things I liked most was that it gave examples of structured meal plans for each body type. This is true body type testing. It was also good for me to get my metabolism back in order. I have such speratic eating habits. I tend to eat when I am all the sudden STARVING. He really helped me balance out my food intake, portion size, and time of the day when I ate. I would reccomend this book to anyone!!!!!. I didn't think I would feel such a transition in such short time. But it works. He also has a 6 week body makeover that I will be doing in April if anyone wants to do it with me.
The recipes are good. His theory of drinking lots of water and a low sodium diet is good. But I don't get the "no sweaty exercise" He says "the harder you work out the less fat you burn". I just can't agree with this part of the "makeover". I have a friend who did the makeover and it worked for her. But it is not for me, especially during a half marathon training program and how much I love my spinning classes (he poo poos spinning).
I liked this guy's plan. Eat sensibly for your body type, eat more to boost your metabolism and do long slow exercise. Simple and do-able. I liked it a lot. And I bought a bike!
Let me start by saying that I wanted to like this book. Michael Thurmond, known as "TV's #1 Diet and Fitness Makeover Expert" from Extreme Makeover, really knows what he's talking about. He's done the research and counseled countless people about weight loss for the long term. He's had a long-running successful program called The 6 Week Body Makeover. And at first read, this book seems to be the answer to many people's dreams.
The claim is that if one follows this diet for six days, along with drinking a certain amount of water and incorporating exercise, a person can drop one entire clothing size. I don't know if this is true, because although my husband and I tried diligently to follow this diet, we couldn't stick with it for longer than four days. We both lost weight, but food fatigue got the better of us.
The first step is to take a quiz to determine your body type--A, B, C, D, or E. Each type has a meal plan and foods specifically selected to boost that type's particular metabolism. Therein lies the difficulty. The meals and snacks are very heavily weighted with eggs, chicken, turkey, and tuna. That's about it. A couple of fruit servings and a decent amount of vegetables are included, along with brown rice. After three days, we had eaten more chicken and turkey and rice than we could stand. After four days, our children were crying for something else to eat.
The diet is quite restrictive, and a person will have to make sure they are planning to be at home for those six days. Eating out would be quite difficult, if not impossible. People with children will probably find themselves needing to cook more than one meal after a couple of days. The one saving grace is that the recipes are, for the most part, delicious. The dinner entrees of roast chicken and vegetables and chicken and asparagus stir fry are wonderful. Another good thing is that the menus are pre-planned and don't require any effort by the participant (other than grocery shopping and meal prep).
After four days, I lost three pounds and never felt hungry. Someone very determined with a freezer full of chicken and turkey could see great results in a short amount of time. It's a decent way to jump start weight loss. As for me and my husband--we're going to stick with Dr. Phil.
I have done the process of the 6 days body makeover and continued with the eating plan. I did this back in 2007, and I still have the kit I purchased back then. The 6 days body makeover is the detox portion of the diet. Therefore the workout is going to be light. Once you complete the detox, you then move on to your entire meal plan and exercises for your body type. You will see complete results. I plan to get back on it as soon as I finish school this May. You have to be committed and focused. I read some of the reviews that were complaining about the process. You are entitled to your opinion, but I will say it all has to do with commitment and motivation. You are only basing everything off the book. Look into the entire process. I am not getting paid for my review, but I can tell you that it worked for me when I did it. I felt like I needed to say something. I lost 50lbs.
Well, I didn't read this from cover to cover, but I finished what I'm planning to read thoroughly. Everything else will be more referencing than reading. Maybe I need a new exclusive shelf. *rolls eyes*
I basically bought this for the body types evaluation in the front of the book. It was worth it, I think, although it didn't provide much more information than the magazine articles I read on Michael Thurmond. I'm still fighting off the urge to buy his whole infomercial based system. It seems to have additional customization.
No, I haven't followed the 6-day diet. Just taken the advice on good foods for my body type.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I used this program when I couldn't move the scale after the birth of my son. You have to cook a lot of your food to control the ingredients and seasonings that go into it. I had decent results but with limited dairy in regimen, I couldn't find a good balance for my personal milk supply. If you already cook for yourself the majority of the week, this is still a great tool to toss in your health toolbox!
Pretty good book that's user friendly to people with all types of diets and nutrition knowledge. The only problem is that she advocates soy, which is should be consumed very sparingly if at all.
