Cozy mystery? Check.
Ghosts? Check.
Ghost Animals? Check.
Amateur Sleuth? Check.

Becky has the gift the same as her brother and sister. The only difference is that her siblings don’t want anything to do with their paranormal abilities and they’ll do anything in their power to drown out those disembodied souls who plead for help.

This book includes:
• A Medium's Birthday Surprise,
• A Medium's Thanksgiving Table,
• A Medium's Christmas Gift,
• A Medium's Valentine's Day Delight,
• A Medium's Easter Epiphany.

Becky Tibbs is a sweet girl, maybe a little too sweet, but it’s difficult to fault her for an innocent nature. Some might consider her naïve. And she is. She’s had little knowledge of a larger world others might live outside North Carolina. On the other hand, she’s had a lot of experience dealing with ghost problems.

Becky didn’t ask for the job of a medium, but after her parents died, the unusual ability became a bequest and then set the course for her life.

Award-winning author, Chariss K. Walker, M.Msc., Reiki Master/Teacher, writes both fiction and nonfiction books with a metaphysical and spiritual component. Her fiction expresses a visionary/metaphysical message that illustrates growth in a character's consciousness while utilizing a paranormal aspect. Her nonfiction books share insight, hope, and inspiration.
Those who search for meaning and the supernatural in themselves will enjoy her books.
Even though Chariss also writes dark-fiction about insanely dark topics, such as sexual abuse, incest, pedophilia, sexual assault, and other inappropriate dinner conversation, there is always an essential question of the abstract nature that gives a reader increasing awareness and perception.

BIRTHDAY SURPRISE
Josh comes to Becky wishing her a happy birthday. Asking where he has been he can’t remember or even want to, Becky thinks it is important for him,and she feels she is the only one that can help him. As her brother remark, she can’t get a restraining order against him. She has a gift, and only sixteen when he left her. Curiosity and first love she wants answers .
Cute, quirky story, very well done.
Valentine Day

Persian ghost kitten, a gift to Becky a medium, as well as a sister and brother, though they don’t lay claim to being able to. Becky sees and talks to dead people and pets. The antics of Prissy made an additional humor to this story, as well as now having an allie of when the mother is thinking of coming. Cute story.

So many things. Could have been a great series...

1. The head hopping. So much head hopping.
2. Need a an editor. Immediately.
3. Virtually all telling. Only brief moments of showing.

Content warning for death, abuse, racism.

Becky Tibbs: A Medium's Mystery Series, Books 1-5 by Chariss K. Walker

Becky has the ability to communicate with spirits (ghosts). Living in a small North Carolina town, she just wants a normal life. But she can't help but encounter souls that seem to need help, a family trait she inherited, like it or not. In this fantastic boxed set Becky solves crimes, as she tries to make a difference in this world.

Well written with original plots, moving at a steady pace. The characters are very likable. I greatly enjoyed each story and feel those who love a great mystery with a splash of the paranormal, will enjoy these stories as well. I highly recommend to all.

Nice series. Good characters and plot

The qualities of the medium were well-handled. I liked the Asheville, North Carolina setting and the police and family elements.

The only thing scary or convincingly supernatural about this book was its tedium. The thought of reading five books of drivel about these superhumanly boring people chuckling ad nauseum at unfunny lines and eating potato salad terrified me. Here's an example:

After Bobby finished perfecting the barbeque, the three gathered in the dining room to eat. Everything was delicious...

With a mouthful of potato salad, Bobby mumbled, "You're welcome," and they all had another good laugh at his antics. (editorial comment: why is that funny?)

"Lordy, lordy, that was delicious, Becks," Bobby said while he patted his slightly protruding stomach.

Becky laughed. "Bobby, you are so much like Dad. You even sound like him."

"Aw, shucks," Bobby replied. "Do I look like him, too?"

"A little," Barb admitted with a chuckle.

"Even so, I'm serious about the potato salad. Look at me, I'm about to burst," Bobby said. He wasn't the least bit ruffled that his sisters thought he was like their pops. "Your potato salad is always the best. I could eat a whole bowl of it by myself, and I'm talking about a huge serving bowl just like this." He tapped the large bowl with the edge of his knife to emphasize his sincerity.

"It is good, Becky," Barb slowly added. "Where did you learn to do that?

Believe it or not, they blab on for another couple of paragraphs about the stupid potato salad. Bear in mind that the author already had devoted a paragraph to the stupid potato salad and basically repeats her stupid potato salad recitation A SECOND TIME.

Unless the potato salad transmogrifies into a demon and slaughters all three of these morons in the next paragraph or two, I am not going to wade through this blather.

Guess what? DNF.

Good Encounters with the Departed

I liked the work the heroine of the books does with ghosts. Becky is either helping ghosts resolve something they need before they can move on, or she is helping someone living deal with a ghost issue. I liked the three siblings, and how each dealt with their gifts of being a medium. I also enjoyed the interactions with an overly interfering ghostly mother. The only reason I rated this box set 4 stars instead of 5 is because I do not like writing style. I guess well over 50% of the book is about the heroine "telling" the reader what is going on. It is like Becky is telling us a story. That style of writing makes it hard to be in the moment, to imagine I am part of the story, like a silent side character. Way less than half the book is actual dialogue between characters. I find male authors tend to write this way. Which is why I prefer female authors. Of-course that doesn't apply to everyone. Just generally.

I really liked this series despite the errors in it. That took away from it for me because you have to stop to figure out what they are talking about. Very annoying. The story itself was sweet and written fairly well except for the repeat of telling about the person in the previous story. I know why it was written that way but still seemed like a waste of time and story space. The one book had duplicate scenes in it which I have highlighted. That bothered me because it felt like the scene was never completed. I guess since I received these free I shouldn't complain because I really liked the stories. They were fun and give people a little more insight into what a medium goes through. I rated the series a 4 mostly because of the errors. I hope to see more from this author.

How do you deal with the living and the dead

The Tibbs children were perfectly normal until the death of the parents. Suddenly they can see the dead, including their parents. Barbara and Bobby deal with it by finding ways to shut it out. Becky embraces her new abilities even though it causes problems with others. How to explain the problem to th police is paramount to her, gradually she is helped by new boyfriend. She encourages her siblings to embrace these abilities, even though it causes them problems.
A must read for all lovers of the supernatural world.

As a Native of West Asheville and Swannanoa North Carolina I must say that this Author really knows her towns. My Dad was from Swannanoa and a lot of Aunts and Uncles still live there. My Mom was from West Asheville and there are family members still there. So I must say going down memory lane through this authors mystery series was Amazing. As a Christian I must say I don’t enjoy some language but this series is so Good you cannot put it down without knowing what happened next. Thank you for an exciting read.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, and have voluntarily left this review. Life is never dull for Becky Tibbs. Her and her siblings and see and speak to the dead. She helps them in death with mysteries she has to solve sometimes about their deaths, or just something that won't let them rest in peace. A very enjoyable series, the characters are unique, adding to the suspense filled plot in this action filled, and at times humourous tale.

Was ok

I only have it three stars because I don't want a book to start with the whole history in the beginning. The second book in the series spent the first 4 chapters telling me what happened in the first book. And then all through there would be rehashing of past events. Irritating... Basic story line was interesting.

A look at life through the eyes of a medium

Surprisingly I enjoyed this book. I've never been into the mystic things but this book spoke to me. I have revised many ideas of life, death and the afterlife.

Acceptance

It’s a beautiful thing, when we can be accepted for being exactly who we are meant to be. Barbara, Bobby and Becky. They were all dealt the same hand; on one fateful night they all found out they were mediums. Would you hide behind pills, alcohol or accept.

I could not get through the first book. The unnecessary repetition got to me (as well as the story being extremely dull). It might have been better if there had been showing instead of 90% telling of the story. No way I'd even attempt to read any other books in this series.

These 5 books could have been 3 books instead, if the background fillers were not so many and not so long. The concept of the series is reasonable but it was slow going and I found myself skipping pages because I had read them in the previous books.
Should have been a 4 star but for the copy/paste that was so prevalent.
