As a small business owner and chronic overachiever this is a book I NEEDED to read. I have always lived with a constant fear that I'm not doing enough. That I'm only as valuable as what others think of me. This book came at a perfect time for me. After years of playing it safe, I had decided that I wasn't going to do that anymore and I was finally going to follow my own path. But I was terrified!!! Natalie's book is a roadmap to living your life on your own terms and your own version of courage. Thank you Natalie for this important book our world needs! I urge all the people pleasers, the ones who are insecure or doubt themselves but who really deep down know they were meat for something great to run, not walk, and order this book! Let's get gutsy!

To say I devoured this book would be an understatement! I've been an admirer of Natalie for years and this is the book she was destined to write. Such a great book for anyone (like me) who has big dreams and even bigger fears of failure, judgement, etc. Starting this page was such a leap of faith for me and to be honest, I'm still figuring it all out and working on growth and that's ok! This book really encouraged me to take bolder leaps of faith and put myself out there more and keep dreaming!

Ahh, this book! It resonated on such a deeply personal level. From the first page, I found myself nodding along as if I were reading my own thoughts put into words. I love it when an author can make you feel like you are living through their experiences. I mean...I felt like I was having a soul-to-soul conversation with her and we still haven't met in person!

Gutsy isn't just a book; it's a companion on the path to uncovering your true courage, resilience, and drive. It's as if Natalie knows that every reader that picks up her book truly needs to embrace vulnerability, step out of their comfort zones, and chase dreams with unwavering resolve. Her relatable anecdotes (infertility and feeling the weight of expectations, for example) and practical insights in general serve as points of connection for me. I was hooked from the start!

Gutsy stands out because of its hands-on approach. This isn't a fluff piece, filling you with words of inspiration. The accompanying guidebook offers exercises and questions to complete, forcing you to ask some hard questions. Talk about transformation and growth 🙌🏻

If you're seeking a read that not only speaks to your heart but ignites a fire within, look no further. Natalie Franke's Gutsy is a roadmap to unlocking your bold and authentic self.

Thanks to NetGalley and Worthy Publishing for the opportunity to review this e-galley.

For many of us, our lives have been influenced by other's opinions and what we think of those opinions, whether we are aware of it or not. This book serves as a guide to help people understand why we hold onto other's opinions and how to live a life that is more authentic to you.

I highlighted so many passages that it was hard to choose a favorite. But the two that stood out the most are:

"It has become clear to me that the fear of what other people think destroys far more dreams than failure ever could."

"You are one decision, one conversation, one opportunity away from an entirely different future at any given moment."

Lots of encouragement and prompts to journal along to if you are at the beginning of a journey to be more dominant in your own life. Was a cute start to my year as this book has a big focus on reflecting and planning for change while being general enough to apply to people who want to change their lives for any reason. I think this was really accessible for people who are maybe new to the self improvement genre.

In Gutsy, Natalie Franke guides readers on how to live courageously and to have the drive to go after what you want. She begins her photography business at 18 years old. She also used it as a way to help her make money during college. After she graduated, instead of following in the degree she got she kept pursing her photography business. She explained how others viewed it is as simple hobby. She still chose to go after her business even when they judged her for doing so. She was riding high when the depression hit her. She shared how she dealt with the loneliness of entrepreneurship and she started to connect with others. They formed a community called Rising Tide Society. They would meet and connect and they grew to 75,000 members and help other businesses. She opened up about how she discovered the number one reasons business fail to begin is because of other people’s opinions. We all want to avoid criticism and the look of disapprove from others. This is meant to help readers to push past the fears of what others are thinking about us. She calls readers to become more gutsy and this means, “marked by courage, pluck, and determination”. This will provide us with the confidence to step out and become the person that we want to be.

In the book, she also revealed her struggle with infertility and undergoing IVF. When trying for her second child, they tried three round and they all failed. She was tired of the disappointment they faced and all of the doctor visits and shots. She recalled how she asked herself if this failed would she still be able to live with that. It did end up working and she became pregnant. Throughout this process, she revealed how she had to learn how to be brave and handle all of the challenges. She provided some of the ways in which she learned to deal with the possible of failure.

A powerful chapter she looked at was the thing about opinions. She used a fox story in her neighborhood to compare all of the posts her neighbors made on her community message group about the fox. Some thought it was dangerous and others not so much. She shared how popular the post was at first until it went into irrelevance. Everyone has opinions and they aren’t always facts. She used a helpful chart enclosed in the book to assist readers into writing down their inner circle. This is meant to help us understand why we care so much about what this person believes about us. She will help readers to discern what feedback we need to take inside our hearts and which to remove. Every year she encouraged readers to take an audit of the content around us.

I would recommend this inspiring book to anyone is ready to live gutsy and be courageous to live their own lives. I really enjoyed the topic of center of attention and how people aren’t always thinking about us like we tend to believe that they are. It was interesting to read about the different studies regarding the spotlight effect. We think they are constantly thinking about our imperfections, mistakes, and flaws and judging. I enjoyed the study of Tom Gilovich and how one person wear an embarrassing shirt and how only 25% could even remember the shirt. I especially loved how she explained in detail about how she was embarrassed in school and looking back at it today. No one but her would remember it. Memories tend to fade. I also liked the discussion on easing the word, “just” and changing the way that we talk about ourselves. This book is an awesome resource to use to break free from seeking the approval of others and their validation.

"I received this book free from the publisher, Hachette Book Group/Faithwords for my honest review.”

Gutsy: Learning to Live with Bold, Brave, and Boundless Courage by entrepreneur Natalie Franke is a refreshing, encouraging, and practical guidebook to stop procrastinating and live your best life. In the book, the author addresses the ingrained habit of downplaying achievements by using words like “just,” for example. She also discusses the fears that hold individuals back from pursuing their dreams. She delves into the neuroscience of fear and offers practical advice for combating it.

The author writes as if she’s having a conversation with the reader. It's very relatable and approachable. She has a section in the book about the damaging language we use to describe ourselves that I loved: "I am just a...blank. I am just a photographer. I am just a teacher. I am just a stay-at-home parent. Whew! This gets me all fired up. I wish you could see me furiously typing away at my keyboard with that angry mama bear look in my eyes. I need you to hear me when I say...You are not just anything. The work that you do matters. Your contributions matter. We need to eradicate this adverb from being used in our vocabulary like this. Stop downgrading the work that you do by throwing 'just' immediately before your title. Language matters. It impacts how we feel about ourselves and how others perceive our self-confidence. If you swap out the word 'just' for any one of its synonyms, it becomes even clearer how language is harmful. Yikes. Isn't this awful? Let's cut it out, kick it to the curb, and hold one another accountable to stop saying it." This is an excellent takeaway not just for business owners but for ourselves and our children. Gutsy is both a guide and an inspiration for embracing courage, confronting fears, and living a genuinely gutsy life.

The book not only encourages individuals to acknowledge their fears and vulnerabilities but also provides actionable strategies to overcome them. Franke's relatable writing style and authentic storytelling create an instant connection with readers, making "Gutsy" a heartfelt guide for anyone striving to navigate life's challenges with resilience and determination.

One of the standout features of "Gutsy" is the way Franke delves into the concept of embracing vulnerability as a pathway to personal growth. Through her own experiences and those of others, she skillfully illustrates how being open about our fears and insecurities can lead to greater authenticity and meaningful connections.

Franke's emphasis on self-compassion and the importance of celebrating small victories fosters a sense of encouragement that permeates the entire book. Whether it's overcoming imposter syndrome or taking bold steps towards one's aspirations, "Gutsy" empowers readers to take ownership of their journeys and become architects of their own success.

Natalie Franke has done it again! This new book from her is so empowering! I am someone who is an overachiever and has historically been a people pleaser. It's been scary going down a new path and starting yet a new venture when I'd be taking risks and not knowing if I could be a mom, entrepreneur, wife, and owner of 2 businesses. We, especially women, are so afraid of what other people will think of us and what we do for a living, because it may not be the politically correct path we're supposed to forge. We're only just supposed to do this job or only be stay-at-home mom, but Natalie reminds us that using the word "just" should be struck down from our vocabulary.

After only the first chapter, I wanted to take on anything and everything that came my way! She shares her own experiences to remind you that yes you're going to fail and things won't be perfect, but the only opinion that matters is yours! There are so many good quotes in here and every chapter makes you more certain that you can be brave and courageous to take on your ultimate goals and dreams. You will overcome your self-doubt and know that you are worthy!

Natalie gives actionable steps to show you how to start getting gutsy! Once you start down this path, it's impossible to stop! She gives you permission to start taking risks, that you don't have to say yes to everything that comes your way, and when our inner voice starts to doubt, we will overcome that fear and push forward!

Every female entrepreneur needs this book in their life!

Natalie has knocked it out of the park with “Gutsy.” With every chapter I felt like she was in my head and writing for me. Gutsy is a powerful and inspiring guide to stepping out in courage and embracing your inner self. I love that Natalie shares her own life experiences to help you open up to the idea of taking risks and reaching for your dreams. It is not a book of just talk. Gutsy is filled with actionable steps and exercises in each chapter to help you move into having bold courage.

I found myself constantly saying “YES!,” “Exactly,” and having many moments of “I hadn’t looked at it that way.” Gutsy definitely helped me to focus on areas I needed to let go of so I could move forward. I loved Natalie’s way of helping you embrace your failures as stepping stones to success. One of the many mindset shifts I had while reading this book.

One of the many favorite nuggets in Gutsy is “You deserve to live a life beyond the limitations of other people’s opinions.” Natalie also said on IG, “Don’t let the opinions of others hold more value than your opinion of yourself.” So good and just what I needed to read.

If you are looking to overcome self-doubt, embrace change, and become more brave, then Gutsy is for you! Break out a journal, a highlighter, and a pen and plan on digging in.

Make Yourself Proud!

Natalie Franke has done it again. In her second book, Gutsy: Learning to Live with Bold, Brave, and Boundless Courage, she discusses moments in her life where she had to make the decision to do something while scared or risk not doing it at all. I love that Natalie explains the science behind why we do things and have certain reactions to fear and uncomfortable situations. Natalie reassures us that she’s been in those cringe-worthy and anxiety inducing moments herself and it's OK. In Chapter 8, she is many of us speaking to a close relative and wanting validation or permission that she is on the right path/making the right choices. “I really hope I make you proud.” The relative’s advice “Make yourself proud!” That is one of the biggest takeaways from this book. Within the chapters, there are exercises to evaluate different aspects of your life and help you make steps towards confronting that fear in small ways. This book gives you permission to ignore the naysayers and even those close to you that may mean well but ultimately they plant seeds of doubt in your mind. This doubt drowns out your own voice and sometimes stalls or stops your progress. Gutsy encourages you to keep pushing forward and do it scared.

This book puts a critic in an unusual position. After all in the midst of its theme of learning to live with bold, brave and boundless courage is a not so hidden theme. Ignore the critics. This book deals with being bold in the face of opposition, being true to yourself and pretty much being who you were created to be rather than shrinking back at the opinions of others. Over all this is a very good book, that will help the reader to stand up and shine. The chapter entitled, "Make Yourself Proud" alone would be worth the price of the book. The only place I really struggled with this book was in the last chapter on rewriting the rules, where in a few places, one in particular, I found myself struggling with some of the wording the author used, and I wondered, if this struggle became disagreement, if I would still be encouraged to be gutsy. That being said, it was a small part of a largely, extremely good book, with some fantastic encouragement that is very much needed in our day. Overall, I highly recommend this well-written book.

I am not a person who normally read this kind of books. I am more of a romcom and sci-fi books kind of girl, but I really wanted to try this book and it was not a disappointment. Natalie's writing is fun and really light, it was really easy to read, and it helps me a lot to understand many things about myself.

Gutsy it is Natalie Franke's second book, and I totally loved it. Even though this is a guidebook which is directly for help anyone who want to make a huge change in their professional life, her advisees can been used in any live situation. It encourages you to do any type of change in your life in any life situation..

I would totally recommend this book to my friends, in fact, I am already doing it, and maybe it will help them the same way it helps me.

Thanks to NetGalley and Worthy Publishing for the opportunity to review this book and give me the opportunity to try something different.

A must have for entrepreneurs & anyone who's ready to fully show up as themselves! Natalie Franke's "Gutsy: Learning to Live with Bold, Brave, and Boundless Courage" is definitely one of my most favorite nonfiction reads. (It's giving Brené Brown for entrepreneurs.) I found this at a time when I realized I had to have my own back, value myself, & really show up as me! It seems easy, right? And yet many of us find it so... challenging. Natalie takes you on this incredible journey of self-discovery! The guidebook was the *perfect* companion to help me take action on what she discussed throughout the book. I cannot wait to share this book with all my friends who doubt themselves often, apologize for *being* themselves, & struggle to find their "place"—just like I did. This book isn't a game-changer. It's a life-changer.

This book was a recommendation. I got the audio book and she speaks in italics the whole time. As it's read by the author, I can only assume it is also written with such emphasis on every other word.

Looking past this, it's your standard, run of the mill self-help book telling you to "be your own hero" and "be the author of your own story," etc. by not being afraid of what other people think.

This could have been summed up in a few cringe-y sentences rather than wasting 6 hours of my time. I'm not saying there is absolutely nothing of value in this book. But I don't agree with the foundation it's built on - the idea that life is all about me, I'm the center of my own universe, etc. It's very popular in our American culture, but it's vapor. I hoped, especially with the vaguest of nods to Christianity, that it might go deeper, but it never did.

Natalie Franke wears her heart generously on her sleeve with this honest (and humourous) look at what it means to live a life of courage. She delivers inspiration and encouragement for anyone who feels stuck, uninspired, or finding themselves living in the messy middle in between place of transition. But more than just fluffy inspiration, she delivers deeply practical prompts and exercises to get in touch with the core of what lies within you, and get to the root of what holds you back, so you can move forward in the things that only you can be and do in this world. I enjoyed the audio book the most. This would be a fantastic book club read, to make the most of the rich exercises, to share them and be known in community, would be a powerful experience.

Natalie Franke is a kind, courageous, supportive cheerleader, and her newest book is all that and more. I was fortunate enough to score an advance copy of the audiobook, and it was just what I needed at the perfect time. Although the book is geared toward those who need the courage to make a big professional change, I truly think this book is for anyone considering ANY significant change in their life. It has just the right amount of “you can do it” encouragement combined with a mix of relatable personal examples, actionable items, and feel good content. It’s definitely one of those books that I’ll come back to when I need a little encouragement!

Gutsy is something I didn’t know I needed until I came face-to-face with fear and uncertainty in the last couple of weeks.
Natalie shares with us how life is simply too short to not go after what you want. We’re only here temporarily so why not take a chance, embarrass yourself a little, and ultimately HAVE FUN!!! As someone who struggles with imposter syndrome and *self-diagnosed* OCD, uncertainty or doing something that draws attention towards me, gives me severe anxiety. However, Gutsy has changed my mindset and allowed me to realize that this life is supposed to be fun!! If you’re ready to get GUTSY, I highly encourage this book !!!!!

I was a part of the lucky crew to get an advanced copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I liked it so much that I purchased it on kindle and in hard copy for gifts as well. Listening to the book is like having a successful best friend coaching you along to achieving your dreams. But there are so many gems that I needed a copy to highlight too!

This book is a must read for entrepreneurs, creatives, and anyone who has a spark of a desire to do something off the beaten path. This is the book that will remind you who you are and that you’ve got this.

“Gutsy” is every bit of what it claims, “learning to live with bold, brave, and boundless courage.”

It’s so easy to let fear get in the way of living our desires. Natalie Franke writes with compassion, a love for people to succeed, wit, and science-y facts to nerd out on to answer the ‘why do we let fear get in the way?’. (Can you tell I loved her writing style and was so engaged reading)

And she encourages you to be bold even in the face of fear and to trust yourself in a message and conversation we all needed to have.

Gutsy is more than just another small biz self-help book—it's an impactful guide that dives deep into the heart of the limiting beliefs and internal self-doubt that so many of us grapple with. As a founder grappling with the nagging bug of imposter syndrome, the timing couldn't have been more perfect for this one for me. Gutsy is full of insightful nuggets to help to help you workshop out your own internal barriers. A must-read for anyone seeking to not only understand their inner self but to truly thrive in the face of challenges and live their life in bold.

This book is exactly what I needed in this season of life. I have been trying to be more fearless, visible, and gutsy. The book is full of beautiful, vulnerable, and inspiring stories from Natalie's life that prompt you to do something similar. This book is an invitation to be more and live the life YOU want, and not what the world wants from you. My biggest takeaway from the book is I cannot win a game that's set up to fail me. I need to design my own game and my own victories.

To the souls looking for affirmations to show up with more courage, read this book!

Oh my goodness, I couldn't wait to get my hands on Natalie Franke's new book, "Gutsy," especially after falling in love with her first one. Let me tell you, this one's even better! It's like chatting with a wise friend about courage, and the way Natalie mixes stories and real-life examples just spoke to my heart. If you're looking for something that'll give you that little nudge to be braver, this is it. Trust me, if you liked her first book, you'll be totally head over heels for "Gutsy"!

This book had a good balance of motivational content and actionable steps. I find some self-help books are heavier on one of these than the other. I listened to the audiobook version, and the first 8 tracks are boring because most of those tracks are spent explaining why she's qualified to give this advice. I would still recommend this to someone who needed a kick in the butt to get out of their comfort zone or be more in the driver's seat of their life.

3.5 stars. Business books are always something I have the best intentions to read but never follow through. Insert a new accountability group we created to encourage ourselves to read more which is where this book was recommended. While it didn’t really tell me anything new, it was everything I needed to be reminded of as an entrepreneur and mom. I’m excited to go back and use some of the prompts and questions to gain further insight.

This is a practical, relatable, doable self-help book. I felt like I was given permission to be myself. I love the title which is what drew me to the book. I love this sentence, "The world is not built for the gutsy ones, but it is the gutsy ones who go on to change the world." Isn't that true?! Natalie Franke gives the extra push towards confidence and, dare I say, freedom!

I really enjoyed this book. Who among us can't use a rallying cry to have enough courage to carry us through and strengthen us to be bold? A lot of humor in this book too, I chuckled along the way. My favorite was the affirmation that we are hard wired to care about what other people think. To not beat yourself up about it, but don't let it define you either. Would recommend 🥳
