Determined to change her fate as written in The Noble King, Princess Octavia heads to the junior ball to find herself a (fake) boyfriend! But before she even arrives, she runs into trouble―quite literally―when her entourage crosses paths with an out-of-control carriage. As it turns out, the passenger was traveling to the same party in secret before the driver mysteriously fainted. Entangled in a series of rumors and conspiracies, the only one Octavia can count on is her bodyguard, Klifford… In all the chaos, does she have any chance of scoring a faux beau?
Second read through: Do I still find this ridiculous and funny? Yes. But I'm also very curious to learn more about Derek and the missing memories, and all the other things that are being hinted at.
first read through: Is this series a little ridiculous? Yes. Absolutely. But it's fluffy and kind of funny, and exactly what I need. So I can't wait to see what happens next.
July 2023. An absolute delight, especially for fans of the genres included in it.
A fantasy shoujo Isekai manga series with a side of shounen ai. Translation: a young woman who loves stories about gay romance is teleported to the fantasy world of her favorite gay romance, as the sister of the main couple. Lots of gay couples everywhere in the story too.
She’s trying to navigate the world and it’s politics, and given up on love because as per Boys Love/MM romance rules, every guy she meets falls in love with another dude and ditches her.
Things get fun as she makes decisions that have political ramifications unwittingly and get behind the scenes conflict rolling, like choosing a random bodyguard with a dark past assuming it doesn’t matter who she picks because he’ll fall in love with a dude and quit soon, or claiming to have a lover because she feels left out and having her family arrange a huge celebration she has to attend.
“The Princess of Convenient Plot Devices” vol 1-2 by Kazusa Yoneda, Mamecyoro, and Mitsuya Fuji.
3 stars. It dragged and felt like a slog. Art was great. Humor came in a bit at the end. So much didn't happen for a volume that was mostly information dumping. Perhaps the light novel is a better medium.
3 stars. This dragged to me--a bit of a slog. There was still some humor, and the art style was nice, but I had a difficult time going through it. I feel with the information dump aspect, the light novel may have been a better medium.
I’m really surprised, but I liked this a ton better than the first volume. I thought maybe the plot would get stronger than the gag, and it really did. There’s sone intrigue, we’re actually getting to know the characters and the world… I’m eager for volume 3!
Color me surprised! This series actually got better in the plot department. It's still kind of annoying that all of the side characters' plot lines are way more interesting than the FL, but still, I'm glad there's something of substance. There's some sort of political mystery that has got me very curious about the truth behind it. Also, the mystery of whatever is going on with the elder brother was very interesting. I'm also now interested in the mystery of the back story of the knight guard. The princess still seems to be making a bunch of people misunderstand her intentions, but now instead of being annoying, it's clear she's just really bad at communicating clearly. It's gone from annoying to kind of funny. The art seems to have improved a bit from the first volume as well.
It’s ok, though there are some confusing bits - what happened to the guys that danced with her? I remember her one disastrous dance because it traumatized her, but this is the first time the legend of her destroying or glorifying her partners was mentioned. It needs more fleshing out IMO. And of fours her communication skills are so bad that she intimidated people into being afraid they weren’t good enough to dance with her…
Also curious that Sirius doesn’t remember their childhood. I assume that Derek’s father is not actually her uncle, and that maybe that’s a translation thing. Because it never says that Derek is her cousin, just that he’s the son of her dear uncle, and he seems surprised at how she refers affectionately to his dad.

A good second volume. There's a shit ton of intrigue, political nonsense, and scheming, but I enjoyed it. There was also some pretty solid action scenes with I'm always down for. I will say, my biggest complaint this time around is how much shit there is to remember. I feel like it would have been better to spread out some of these plot points and ominous hints, but unfortunately we're just kind of stuck with everything happening close together and its hard to keep track. Even with these gripes, this was still a solid second volume that was just as enjoyable as the first.
I had high hopes after reading Volume 1 and I was not disappointed! I must confess though that the cliffhanger at the end did have me screeching "REALLY?!" But to be fair I'm not a fan of cliffhanger endings anyways. I should have known it was coming, manga almost always feels so short. Since the next volume doesn't come out for another month and a half I guess I'll just have to read the light novel...
Some excitement in the beginnings and then the ball begins! With dancing, some chats, and more. It was quite fun though I am tiring of Sil and how he thinks about Octavia, even before her statement at the beginning of the series (which I wouldn't even call like a rejection) he has been off about her as if she hates him/hates his relationship with her brother which is just not true.
Octavia finds out (slightly) more about the rumors about her. I'm looking forward to how her attempts to clear things up have worsened her existing reputation and created a new, even more cursed reputation!
very slow progress on the actual plot, but the carriage scene / ballroom scene between octavia and klifford were cute enough to keep me semi-interested.
