Well, turns out that this isn’t exactly an anthology and Iori and Minami are at it again, but this time with some jilted co-lesbians along for the ride. Which makes for some strange bedfellows indeed, if they make it that far.

Look, as I may have said last time, this is not the next great yuri title, but it’s pretty darn fun. It continues the narrative of the first volume and then lives up to its title by making them very entangled indeed.

It’s not written with any panache, or at least the translation doesn’t imply it, but the structure is certainly enjoyable enough. We dip in an out of the lives of our leads from the first volume and the girls who love them, literally.

The new additions, also vaguely related to the other four, are a scatterbrained manga artist who would rather goof off playing online games and the gaming partner she crushes on. Naturally, said partner is, unbeknownst to her, also her editor (the story’s most clever moment comes when it plays with the implausibility of this entire scenario).

These two are a much more… calm… pairing than the originals and their vibe is pretty fun, just because Heke, the mangaka, is incapable of meeting a deadline, but very good at making excuses to Shinohara. Who takes none of her crap, but indulges Heke in secret like nobody’s business.

I’d hesitate to call any of these relationships super healthy - Heke and Shinohara are living more than a few lies, Iori and Minami are pretty rough with one another at times (though they really get better as the story continues). But the affection is there beneath it all.

Then there’s Minami’s old partner in crime, somewhat literally, Shizuku. Who happens to still be in school, but not talking to her former flame that she carries a torch for. And getting lectures from Saori, who happens to be Iori’s younger sister.

These two might be the unhealthiest couple, since their sort-of relationship is bound up in settling on one another because their would-be partners are dating one another instead of them (and at least Saori is well aware that she’s gone full taboo [and impossible] by having a thing for her older sister) . It’s, yep, definitely one way to go there.

Still, as silly fun times go, it’s a good ride and there are some very solid jokes that help make up for the more coincidental quirks of fate that make up the plot. Then again, the way these stories are all layered on one another is part of the draw, because they’d be fairly middling without them.

Not the best, but I’ve read way lesser and you could do a lot worse in the yuri sphere than spending time with these goofballs and their flailing about for love. I assume we’ll see more of them in a future volume and I’m totally okay with it, especially if this ends up drawing even more couples into the mix.

And, not for nothing, it does pull back on the more awful aspects of the first volume, such as the ludicrous gas-sniffing substance abuse angle that felt woefully out of place. There are still tonal issues, but they’re toned (!?) down a notch at least.

3 stars - it’s okay, but it’s a mostly-entertaining okay that just wants to have some fun and tell a story. Even with the ridiculous juvie prison that Minami and Shizuku end up in during a flashback, this is nothing terribly serious, but enjoyable nonetheless.

A collection of abusive relationships with really rough pacing issues. It also doesn’t know what tone to take at any point, trying to take a silly goofy tone and apply it to the whole story when all the characters and issues presented are deeply concerning and should be treated with more tact and respect.

Overall just really not a good read, and a genuinely terrible example of a good relationship, traumas healing, etc.

Weird, but cute. Odd couples who need to work on communicating.

I’m appreciating what feels like a somewhat unique slice-of-life about imperfect people being messy, but making things work together.
