Logging this bc the ending was very surprising and not at all how I expected the missing skates debacle to get figured out.

This was another childhood favorite of mine. Re-reading as an adult was fun and nostalgic. There are lots of good learning moments for kids in it, and it’s a book I’m happy to have for when I have kids of my own.

i swear i am going to become an absolute expert on children’s mysteries.

i didn’t know what to expect from a barbie mystery since the target age is younger than i usually read. rather than a bunch of clues all pointing to one specific culprit, the style was that each suspect had a possible motivation, and in the end you could basically pick one out of a hat. idk how to describe it better, but it was similar to the nancy drew pc games.

this one actually wasn’t bad at all, and it had a lot of girl drama with barbie acting as the exasperated therapist, which i liked.

i do have to complain about one thing though. while the doll dioramas were good, they were inconsistent about which girl was which. this book was about a team of five female skaters, and i could not figure out who was who because the text and the pictures would have conflicting information. in a mystery where you’re trying to figure out whodunnit, this was especially inconvenient.

Painting Julia to be crazy jealous just to have Meg be the thief? Rude. Everyone needed to leave Allie alone. Especially Barbie.

Cheesy, and not very engaging for young children. The pictures of posed Barbie dolls aren't even that entertaining. Overall, it has an okay message, but I wasn't impressed and neither were our girls.
