Holy Trinity Monastery

Holy Trinity Monastery is a male monastic community under the auspices of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad. The monks are dedicated to a life of prayer and obedience according to the pre-revoluntionary monastic tradition. They draw their origins from the Pochaev Lavra in Southern Ukraine when monks fled from Pochaev in the face of the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. As descendants of the Lavra of Pochaev, the monastery continues the mission established by St. Job in the 15th century to publish books for the edification and protection of the faithful. Within the monastery is located a studio and school of Russian iconography conducted by disciples of master iconographer Fr. Cyprian (Pijoff). Also situated within the monastic community is Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary, with young men from around the world training for the holy priesthood and ministry within our Church. Consisting of impressive buildings and an other-worldly way of life, Holy Trinity Monastery is a source of spiritual nourishment and support for the Orthodox Church.

In keeping with the humble spirit required of a monk, books which are written or prepared by members of the monastic brotherhood are published under the general authorship of Holy Trinity Monastery.

A lovely book of Orthodox prayers. Prayers include those for morning and evening, repentance, before and after taking communion, and others as well as the Divine Liturgy. Also has guidance in the back on how to pray in Church, how/when to make the Sign of the Cross, and use of the "Jesus Prayer".

The prayers within it are beautiful, poetic, and intense, and the presentation of this book is pleasing and compact in size.

Having said that, I have to say, for me personally, that I still prefer my "Pocket Prayer Book for Orthodox Christians" (aka our "Little Red Book") over this one due to its ability to fit easier into a coat or shirt pocket --- so convenient I carry it with me nearly everywhere I go.

Nevertheless, I think that this is a useful and wonderful book beneficial for Orthodox Christians.

A perennial prayer book that one should bring wherever one goes. Put your thoughts, acts, and desires in the scale of God, not of man.

Thank you to the Orthodox friend who gifted me this book.

A beautiful prayer book from the Russian Orthodox Church. Although I am not an Orthodox Christian, I found these prayers to be tonic for my soul. I will return to them again and again.

This is a beautiful little hardcover book with plenty of Russian Orthodox Christian prayers to Our Lord And Savior Jesus Christ and the Theotokos, Mary.

I’m not sure I’ve read all the prayers in this book, but probably it is the best prayer book ever printed in English. +

Filled with heretical nonsense. Outside of the Trisagion prayers and a few others scattered here and there it's more of a prayerbook TO the church and saints rather that BY the church on behalf of the saints. I used to believe this crap; hook, line and sinker. Don't be deceived.

This prayer book is deficient in several ways which render it inferior to its competitors (HTM, New Rome Press, and St. Tikhon's Prayer Book).

1) Inconsistent and undifferentiated formatting, which occasionally causes confusion about portions of prayers. Indentations and formatting for identical portions of prayers will be presented differently in separate sections of the prayer book, i.e. stichera will be indented, separated from other text, and printed in smaller type in some prayers but not others. This sloppy lack of attention to detail is unique to the Jordanville prayer book.

2) The binding is reasonably strong, but the cover ink (not a higher-quality cloth or leatherette cover like its competitors) and faux treasure binding wear off quite rapidly.

3) High frequency of typographic errors relative to competitors.

4) Less content relative to most competitors (No compline, few occassional prayers, and a relative dearth of instructions for integrating various prayers).

5) Less visually impressive than its competitors with monochrome printing, an almost complete lack of icons, and few decorative illustrations. Paper feels very cheap compared to competing prayer books

6) It's annoying how much nicer their Slavonic prayer book is compared to the English version in each of the aforementioned domains. The lack of diacritics for intonation really impedes correct pronunciation for non-native speakers, however. Jordanville print quality has definitely declined through the years; I own several Russian publications of theirs from years past and the general print quality is noticeably higher. Very sad decline.

Life changing, prayers that will soothe one’s soul to the point where repentance becomes a daily activity that brings a sense of beauty, yet is still confrontational in a way, as our trespasses must be atoned for; a trait of a just and loving creator.
