I really loved this manga. I loved the character of Nika. A girl who is very simplistic when she's at home and trying to be perfect when she goes to school. I can't wait to read the second one. I think I 'm going to get me a Christmas present and buy the second book.
I think it's an interesting manga. Nika is just unladylike when she's on her OFF mode. I mean come on. You gotta admit... when you're at home or anywhere near the house, you don't really care about your image. You dont care if you look sloppy and act so lazy and immature. Because we dont care about what your neighbors or family will think of you. In school, you have to try to fit in with the cool kids and sh!t. Just so they could accept you as friends or so they wont make fun of you. So i think this story is about finding someone who will accept you as who you really are. No pretenses. I think Arata-kun is like that. He seems like an interesting character as well. People really shouldn't judge people by their looks. You could be deceived. Haha!
I do not understand the main character. It's not that she is super duper ugly. She's pretty but simply unladylike.... I think I'm interested in how she'll accept herself and at least act a bit decent.. Oooh, and also would love to see more about the guy.
Possibly the most extra manga series I have ever started. Not an exaggeration.
I actually read up to volume 9 but I did so much skimming that I'm not going to mark them as read. Besides, I don't actually care enough about this manga to make it count as part of the goodreads reading challenge.
Well, I'm going to start by saying that every character in this book sucks. EVERY SINGLE ONE. I mean, yes, they have some nice qualities but not strong enough to change my over all opinion.
First off, Nika. She's nice, pretty, and proper at school. The complete opposite of that at home. At home, she's on her 'off' mode, as she likes to call it, and she is a MESS. She's loud, blunt, dirty, alittle gross, dresses odd, and puts her hair up in an odd style. Prepare to have second hand embarrassment whenever she's in the manga. WHICH IS ALL THE TIME BECAUSE SHE'S THE MAIN CHARACTER. SHE'S SO DRAMATIC AND EXTRA I HAD TO SKIP PAGES TO SPARE MYSELF! This girl, literally yanks out her pubic hair with her hands. Not just once but five times in a row. 🤣🤣 She accidently suffocates herself and gets knocked out, she plucks her bikini line and somehow she gets swollen down there because of all the itchiness. I can't with her. I can't.
Onto Akata. He's my most hated type of guys in romance mangas. The ones who can't properly communicate their feelings to the person they like. He's always expressionless and can't seem to be able to say much. Yeah, I don't care if a guy is an introvert as long as he treats the person he likes with care and doesn't make them feel unloved.
I hate all the side characters. I'm too lazy to write specifics about every single one. Just know they suck and they do ridiculous things.
Things I need explained:
Nika and Akata stay friends with a guy who blackmailed Nika with private pictures because he wanted Nika to be with him? Yeah, I don't get it either. Oh, and somehow everyone is okay with a teacher who kisses a student and tries to sabotage Nika and Akatas relationship because he hates the school he's working at?????????!!!!!!! And then after everything is resolved the teacher still works at this school and everything is okay?? Someone make this make sense!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭 Then somehow a random hairstylist wants to ruin Nika and Akatas relationship too! And he does so by almost raping Nika while she's unconscious! Nika doesn't think this is wrong and even calls it sex when this hairstylist makes her believe he actually went threw with it!!! She cares more about finding a damn ring! She also gets kidnapped by some other dudes and it's ....JUST.TOO.MUCH.
Too many impossible situations right after another. I'm . . . . . .. . . exhausted.
If you really want to read about a girl with two different physical appearance skip this and read True Beauty instead. It's a Korean webtoon and it's so much better than this mess.

I'm used to slightly mawkish romances, but I was pleasantly surprised by Switch Girl! The concept is already hilarious: a beautiful, popular and well-dressed high-school girl who, once at home, transforms into an ultra-relaxed version, with deformed jogging suits, ugly glasses and zero glamour. She's constantly juggling these two versions of herself, and it's downright funny.
Of course, there's a love story, shojo oblige. He too has an “on” and “off” version, but I found that a little disappointing. All he has to do is put on glasses to embody his “off” side, and there's nothing charming about his character. Rather cold, even unsympathetic.
Where the manga scores points is in its no-holds-barred tone. There's talk of waxing, digestion and all manner of feminine discomforts rarely tackled so freely in this genre.
One small downside: once the romance gets going, the plot loses a little steam. The stakes become predictable, and you can feel the twists and turns coming.
But despite everything, Switch Girl! is still a breath of fresh air. Whether the heroine is on or off, she assumes everything with humor and aplomb. And that, frankly, is delightful.
my thoughts :: 💭 ⤷ I don’t usually read manga but i’ve been starting to get into it as summer break is finally here! I thought i wouldve struggled with following the plot with only pictures since i’m so used to just words on paper but i surprisingly really enjoyed this, it was funny and really relatable at times.. (o-O) i found the characters really interesting and i’m already excited to start the next volume!! It was just a cheesy cute beginning to a (hopeful) romance and just transported me back to when i was younger and reading dork diaries hehe I really liked this :3
Omg, this manga is so damn funny. It recreate the real life situation that girl can relate to with our off mode. Hahaha looking forward to more of this series.
