Do angels really exist? Can we call upon them when we need them? What do they look like? Why are they here? With more than 60 years experience as a psychic - 20 of which have been spent studying angels - the author answers these and other often-asked questions.
Sylvia Browne was an American author and self-proclaimed psychic who built a lucrative career through books, television appearances, and psychic readings. Known for her frequent guest spots on The Montel Williams Show and Larry King Live, she claimed to communicate with angels, spirit guides, and the deceased, and said she had psychic visions from the age of three. In 1986, she founded the Society of Novus Spiritus, a Gnostic Christian church, and ran a variety of businesses, reportedly earning millions annually. Browne wrote over 40 books, many of which were bestsellers, and maintained a dedicated fanbase throughout her life. However, her career was marked by controversy. She made numerous high-profile predictions about missing persons and criminal cases that were later proven false—errors that drew widespread criticism and scrutiny from skeptics and media outlets. A 2010 study by the Skeptical Inquirer concluded she had not been accurate in any verifiable case. Her reputation suffered further after her 1992 conviction for securities fraud. Despite criticism from figures like James Randi and John Oliver, Browne retained a devoted following. Her vague prediction about a “pneumonia-like illness” spreading around 2020 drew renewed attention during the COVID-19 pandemic. She remained a polarizing figure—revered by some, discredited by others—until her death in 2013 at the age of 77.
Sylvia Browne’s Book of Angels is a deep dive into her personal experiences and extensive research from throughout the world. I found this book peaceful and full of light. She strives to answers the tough questions we have on life after this world. As someone that lost a child I found it to be reassuring that one day we will meet again.
Let me lay my bias plainly on the table: As a Christian, I knew I would have a hard time with this book, but while in my current study of angels, I'm attempting to give an unChristian perspective a fair shake.
"Religion down here [on earth]," writes Browne, "is a matter of personal preference, whatever road you choose to travel. If you feel that your path of choice is right, then it's right for you."
Browne opens each chapter with a quote from the Bible, the Koran, or the Bab. She says she gets her angel information from her own research, people under hypnosis, and spirit guide communication with two beings from the Other Side, Iena (aka Francine) and Raheim.
The resulting mash-up that resulted in this book, however, leaves errors and inconsistencies everywhere. While some of her material matched with the Bible (which is, to her, just one of the right paths), much was a face-to-face contradiction (i.e. Angels are "always in a state of acceptance and unconditional love").
It just doesn't match up. Someone's got to be off, to be wrong. And I must say it's Sylvia Browne.
Aside from content, the writing was very smooth (I read the entire book in one sitting). Browne has a very soothing motherly tone. But if you're seeking truthful information on angels instead of vaguely comforting notions, you won't find it here.
Browne mentions her self-proclaimed mantra: "Take with you what you want, and leave the rest."
Good for healing Meditations, loved this book a must read. I told Dane to bring me a Hawiian angel for my collection which I am staring. Send me angels!
I really loved this book. I found it so interesting to hear all the stories and to find out about the different types of angels and what their purpose is. Wonderful book.
Sylvia Browne's Book of Angels is an enlightening book about the different types of angels. I had no idea that there were so many angels with different roles and found the book interesting. It is a quick read and has a lot of people's personal angel stories that Sylvia Browne has collected over the years. Overall, I would say if this is a topic of interest, it may be a good book for a fast read.
I read this book years ago when Sylvia Brown was appearing on TV and demonstrated her talent on the Montel Williams show. I keep this book out to flip through the pages and read about the different angels Easy reading and I favor this one above all her other novels.
Sylvia Browne books are so comforting. I have read and re-read many of her books. Sometimes it is hard to remember that there is still a lot of good in the world and that there is more to life than people basically only thinking of themselves and treating each other poorly. This book encourages others to look for signs of positivity in the world.
I enjoy reading stories of angels and how they work in our lives. This book delves deep into angels in all cultures, writings, etc. I ended up skipping half the book because I found a lot of that boring.
I was born and raised Catholic so angels have always been a part of my belief system.
I found it very interesting to learn about the different tiers of angels and how they can help us in our daily lives. Much of what the late Sylvia Browne has spoken of resonates with my own personal beliefs.
After reading this book I have found myself meditating and reaching out to the different phylum of angels and asking for their help with a problem of my own or with a loved ones. I actually found a lot of comfort and peace reading the different chapters and learning how to incorporate an angel's love and protection into my daily life.
I feel this is a must read for anyone who is feeling a little lost and needs that extra help to start finding their way. I may not be consciously aware of interacting with an angel but I now understand how I could have and not even known it.
Simple . Clear Explanation of a complex topic makes fascinating reading.
Sylvia's descriptions of the world of angelic beings makes a valiant attempt to unravel many of the commonly misunderstand .confusing ideas about angels. I can appreciate the struggle she went through trying to balance Commonly held ideas with the detailed descriptions given here . Having studied the Nature of the Other Side I encountered a few stumbling blocks. I have my own mental images that do not always mesh with hers. But as I Learn more about the topic I can integrate much of her Information with my own. For those who seek comfort in knowing about angels. But need distinct categories and an explanation of Who Does What. This book may be the perfect source.
I liked this book. It really teaches you a lot on Sylvia Browne's perspective of angels and the distinction between the different phylums. It also includes angel meditations and stories of angel encounters. I really like how the author says believe what you want at the beginning of her books because it made it easier for me to take some of her claims with a grain of salt or call total BS but still learn from other claims that sounded good to me
I have to admit that I found this book interesting. It talks about angels like the cover says. Ms. Browne describes various 'phylums' or types of angels. It explains what each group of angel main duty is.
This book also includes some letters from people that have had encounters with an angel(s). At the end of each chapter she includes a meditation for what you are looking for.
I think the angel stories are fabulous, especially the ones written to her by other people. Some of the religious concepts, however, I'm not sure about. I've never heard some of the topics that she spoke about, though I found it interesting. Also, not certain about how she could be definite about knowing the phylum of angels. Still a good and interesting read.
I love reading other accounts of angels other people have seen. There are many stories and accounts of things that has happened on why they have seen them. The stories are very interesting. I believe in angels since I too have had 3 stories of my own on seeing angels . It's nice too know so many other's see them to.
Loved reading about the different types of Angels and the roles they play here and on the Other Side. And their sheer numbers alone can astound you. So happy to know that you can send them on to others when you want to share the love!
I find Browne very interesting. Some of her stuff resonates with me, some doesn't. But I find she's certainly worth reading. I never thought of angels being organized into phyla before. Makes sense to me.
Just finished reading another of Sylvia's inspiring books. This read truly confirmed much of what I already knew...However, the opportunity to realize others experiences made it truly heart warming and comforting. I highly recommend this book.
I loved this. I left me feeling hopeful that God provided something to help us survive all the evil and turmoil of this world. As a nurse, I constantly as God to send help for patients, families, and coworkers. Nice reference book on the phyla of angles. Lots of peoples experiences.
