Spoilers for previous volumes. Gifs and minor spoilers for this volume too.

So this volume follows on from the last; Sawako has finally made her first friends and now they're actually doing 'friend-things': hanging out and eating together. Chizu and Ayane are quick to see that Sawako is developing feelings for Kazehaya but (and I'm so grateful for this) they let the relationship take its own course and decide to watch from the sidelines. At this point and in the following chapters, Sawako only begins to realise that her 'like' for Kazehaya is different than her 'like' for Ayane and Chizu.
Preparation for the sports festival also ensues and things get awkward between Kazehaya and Sawako as she notices her quickened heart beat around Kazehaya. We're also introduced to Kurumi,
the cute, popular girl who attended the same junior high as Kazehaya and who befriends Sawako in an instant however readers may recognise her from previous volumes and may have a cloud of doubts. Kurumi then reveals something to Sadako that suddenly lets the reasons for her actions fall into place.

This volume gives the readers a glimpse of Chizu and Ryu's dynamic; strong friendship and casualness. It also gives insight into Ayane's quick thinking and experience as she claims she recognises Kurumi's character and lies in wait to see what she is planning.

Also, Pin. Someone smack him:

I also really liked the relationship between Sawako and her parents. It's always amusing to see how different cultures have cultivated their youth.

Like Jocelyne says in her review, it's difficult to say I want to be like Sawako since she is so naive- that's just her personality. It's difficult to be naive once you know too much. ;) She's one of my all time favourite characters hands down though.

i’m sad we don’t get as much conversation between kazehaya & sawako in this volume but the moments we do get are too funny and precious so it’s fine T^T

we get to meet kurumi in this one who i actually don’t hate she’s the typical cute girl but a bit more aggressive personality. i don’t like she’s trying to use sawako but i know how they’re friendship comes about in this series.

and the chapter of them all outside of school T^T need more of that content in my life

This was an another great volume! Kurumi is causing drama and I don’t like it! I knew she was not as nice as she seemed! I just want Sawako and Kazehaya to be together! They are just so cute! On to the next volume!

I adore this manga series! Sawako is so precious and endearing. She might be socially awkward and naïve, but she's honest, authentic and kind.

The friendship between Sawako, Yoshida and Yano is beautiful. Yano and Yoshida are the best wingwomen and they're naturally funny, especially when teasing Kazehaya.

Sawako and Kazehaya's relationship is so cute, and the series is handling its development masterfully. Kazehaya is totally smitten. Sawako is slowly realising that she might see Kazehaya as more than a friend. As the reader, it's obvious that they have feelings for each other, but their slowly evolving emotions are expressed beautifully through the art.

I'm fully attached to the characters, the art is beautiful and the wholesome vibes are immaculate. I might only be on the third volume, but Kimi ni Todoke is delightful!

So. Much. Angst. LOL!

Though that is not my preference in reading, I am consistently amazed at this mangaka's storytelling! She can suck you into the most drama-filled situations and almost want you wanting more! LOL!

Butttt I really am just ready for this romance to take off! LOL!

This volume seemed a little slower pace then volume two and wasn't a huge fan of some of the peer pressure, but it was still a fun read. I don't like Kurumi though. Period. I feel she is using Sawako and really liked that ending. You go Sawako!

Hoping Sawako kindly speaks her mind and things clear up ASAP!

I've ALWAYS, always, always been afraid of becoming someone like Kurumi-chan.

My review today is going to be short. To be dorky and to connect to my readers, I want to uh . . . share an experience.

But FIRST:

This thing made me laugh. I've always wondered if I should dye my hair and my friends picture me with blonde hair or light brown hair or red hair and it just doesn't work out.
So in the end, they always say, "But black is the best for you though!"
(*sigh) I guess i'm stuck with this. At least until I become an old grandma with white hair.
Sheesh, this thing pokes my heart too much.

It's nice how all the characters focus on Sawako smiling. It's always nice when the gloomy one of the class finally smiles.

NON-REVIEW TIME!
My reviews always go out of hand, like every normal Theresa review.
If you're going to get bored, CLICK AWAY NOW!

So. Usually when you're in a relationship with someone, there are people that like you or your partner. It's normal.
It's also normal for that person to flirt with you or your partner. (A little more aggravating than normal, but you know.)
It's ALSO, ALSO, ALSO NORMAL TO GET JEALOUS.
It's actually healthy in a relationship.

Not that Kurumi and Kazehaya were already in a relationship.

But I guess it's just something that I can teach my review readers. If you want to be someone's partner, this is going to be something you have to deal with. Unless you two don't ever talk to anyone, ever.
But everyone has attractive traits. That's why you two are dating in the first place. Someone will find something attractive that you found--it's normal. PERFECTLY NORMAL, and should be what you should expect if you ever think of dating someone.

So, my boyfriend and I have already been through this whole shabalaba.
Last time I had a creep on my shoulders, he got super jealous.
When his ex-girlfriend tried to flirt with him, yeah, I got super jealous.
And . . . when a fellow club member of his developed a crush on him, I also got very, very jealous.

So, naturally . . . I would want to say
"HEY GET AWAY FROM HIM THIS IS MINE HE IS MINE YOU NO TOUCH GET AWAY DON'T BREATHE HIS AIR--"

Of course, I didn't. I calmed down. I relaxed. I was the girlfriend.
But looking more into this girl, I noticed how CUTE AND TINY she was . . . so adorable. Like a little doll.
And I got jealous.
Then I decided, "MAYBE if I become friendly with her . . . I won't get so jealous. Or she'll learn I'm his girlfriend and want to back off. Or . . . . or . . . ."
(*Sigh) But I never talked to her. I watched her watch my boyfriend and I.
I never said anything.

I NEVER WANT TO BECOME A KURUMI THOUGH! Fake niceness and then say, "YOU BETTER BACK OFF PUNK!"
I don't want to be like that. Not that kind of jealous . . . no . . . . . .

My point is when you are dating someone and someone else likes your partner, it's normal. It just means you chose well, or that people are jealous of you. (I don't know if you should get confidence from that, but it's a way to not be so jealous because you're not the one who's wishing to be you.)
And if that person should try and flirt with your partner, if your partner really is a good partner, they'll refrain from that. You deserve a good partner!
You don't need to be jealous when in the end, your partner chooses you and no one else! :D

IN THIS CASE, with Sawako and Kurumi both not Kazehaya's girlfriend, Kurumi is just evil.
If you're striving to have someone that someone else wants, you should fight for him! NOT manipulate other girls.

....Yup.

Life is looking up for Sawako. She is making more and more friends at school and the bullying is somewhat lessening. But like any bullying victim, she's cautious. She can't believe that people actually like her. And doesn't know how to react when people are nice.

A main plot point of this volume occurs when her friends challenge Sawako to call them by their first names. This is a big deal in Japanese culture. You call most people by their last names. And almost always use honorifics. People don't go on a first name basis unless they're friends. Even then, they usually use honorifics like -kun or -chan. It's hard to properly understand the big deal about this unless you're Japanese. Luckily for Gaijin like me, I can call Japanese friends by their first names without honorifics and it's excused because I'm an ignorant foreigner. That's a good thing, because I didn't know about the honorifics when I went to Japan.

Yano-san and Yoshida-san (using last names) have been very nice to Sawako. However, they still call her Sadako - the mean horror movie nickname. I'm assuming this is out of habit, but it makes me question their characters. Especially when Sawako is so adamant about using formal names. It does occur to them at one people that they shouldn't call her Sadako, but they haven't changed yet. I hope they do.

Sawako makes friends with one of the most popular girls in school. She's the female version of Kazehaya. Nice to everyone and liked by all. Sawako is incredibly flattered to be the recipient of such attention and wants to be just like her. She is upset though that Kurimi-chan and Kazehaya have such an easy friendship. She's too scared to talk to him. Plus, she wonders if that means that Kurimi-chan and Kazehaya are something more.

Neither Sawako nor Kazehaya have acknowledged that they "like" each other yet. All the signs are there - extreme nervousness, cautious formalism, shy niceties - but they're blind to it. At the end, there's a potential wrench thrown into their growing relationship. I wonder how or if it will cause a problem.

Great volume! Now that the characters have everything figured out, they can start working on the "good times" part of their friendship.
First of all: can I just say? I LOVE RYU. Him and Chizu have such a great dynamic, and I feel like they bring a lot to the story, and to Sawako's little world.
Ayane wasn't displayed as much in this volume, but her little comments are too good. Also, I love how quickly she taps into the emotional drama between Kazehaya and Sawako, and her little experiments regarding it.
Pin is a riot, and I love his effect on Kazehaya. xD
As always, Kazehaya is just wonderful <3 I particularly love how he's obviously flawed. It makes him more rounded and human.
Lastly, Sawako. I've never encountered a character as unique as her, and I absolutely adore her. I'd say I want to be her, but to be her, I'd have to be as naive as her. It's part of who she is, and I love that about her. So for the time being, I'll adopt her motto and try to do one good deed a day.
Regarding the artwork, all I can do is give two thumbs up. Love it. It's clear, clean and well done. Couldn't ask for more <3

¡Me encanta!

Firstly, I am loving Sawako's parents! Secondly, our boy Kazehaya is just so bashful! Why can't bashful boys have some sort of uniform so you can spot them in a crowd? I want one too. Sawako, you lucky girl!

In the third volume, Sawako starts hanging out with her new friends and befriends Kurumi. Near the end, when Kurumi asks Sawako to help her with someone she has a crush on, Sawako finds herself saying no. Turns out eh person Kurumi likes is, well...onto volume 4.

I already love this series so much. Kazehaya is so sweet and a literal forest of green flags. Sawako might be one of my favorite main characters in a Shojo, she's so wholesome and sweet but also really naïve and silly (normally I don't love that, but it hits different here).

I'm not sure how I feel about Kurumi yet. She's honestly really annoying right now but I do feel like she has the potential to be a really fun character.

I also really loved Ryu in this volume.

I'm technically re-reading, but I don't remember too many details so I'm acting like this is my first read through 😂

Them teasing Kazehaya is just everything to me HAHAHAHAHA

Ayame‘s my girl; got to love how she‘s slowly trying to get these two to be together with any indirect method possible lmaoooo🥹

Also, I‘m so proud of Sawako rejecting Ume‘s request so openly - for someone who actually overthinks everything and is a bit socially handicapped (for now at least heh), she‘s quite open and honest to expressing her feelings to others (even when she‘s not sure herself when it comes to naming and pinpointing these emotions)

*so proud of her😭🤧*

Volume 3 is full of all Sawako's good memories. she eat ramen at Ryu's house and meet with her friends on a holiday. A new character, Kurumi is also crush on Kazehaya so she is a Sawako's rival.
And I am relieved that Sawako refused Kurumi's offer.

Not sure of this one!

I hate her fake new friend and the fact that she want to be like her! Because she is used to being alone, she doesn't recognize true friends from fake ones. However, I’m happy that Sawako refuse to help this fake friend!
