Sylvia Browne was an American author and self-proclaimed psychic who built a lucrative career through books, television appearances, and psychic readings. Known for her frequent guest spots on The Montel Williams Show and Larry King Live, she claimed to communicate with angels, spirit guides, and the deceased, and said she had psychic visions from the age of three. In 1986, she founded the Society of Novus Spiritus, a Gnostic Christian church, and ran a variety of businesses, reportedly earning millions annually.
Browne wrote over 40 books, many of which were bestsellers, and maintained a dedicated fanbase throughout her life. However, her career was marked by controversy. She made numerous high-profile predictions about missing persons and criminal cases that were later proven false—errors that drew widespread criticism and scrutiny from skeptics and media outlets. A 2010 study by the Skeptical Inquirer concluded she had not been accurate in any verifiable case. Her reputation suffered further after her 1992 conviction for securities fraud.
Despite criticism from figures like James Randi and John Oliver, Browne retained a devoted following. Her vague prediction about a “pneumonia-like illness” spreading around 2020 drew renewed attention during the COVID-19 pandemic. She remained a polarizing figure—revered by some, discredited by others—until her death in 2013 at the age of 77.

I think this woman is just way too full of herself. I love astrology and love most of the authors but she just grated on my nerves the entire time I was reading through this (which by the way didn't take long since this is a very small book.)
Some parts I felt like I was reading gibberish, it made no sense at all, none of it fit anyone I knew! She came across as a pompous know-it-all. A waste of my time and probably yours if you are unlucky enough to have this book on your TBR list.
AND if I could of given this a half-star rating well...that would of been too much for it too!

I read things regarding myself and those close to me and found much that simply didn't fit for me. While there was some of the things that made sense, the majority of it just completely missed the mark.

I read this a long time ago before I knew much about astrology and enjoyed it. -I tried reading it again after years of learning about astrology and most of it is sooo off :( -Being a Virgo, I laughed at the part where she called Virgo’s the whores of the zodiac :)

What I liked most was it said that Virgo the Virgin is a myth, that Virgos are really the sluts of the Solar System. I'm a Virgo, I concur!

Sylvia Browne’s Astrology Through a Psychic’s Eyes offers a unique blend of intuitive insight and traditional astrological interpretation, inviting readers to explore the cosmos not just as a system of celestial mechanics, but as a reflection of deeper, spiritual energies. Browne, best known for her psychic work, applies her intuitive gifts to the realm of astrology, suggesting that the stars can reveal hidden truths about our personal paths and inner lives.

The book’s strength lies in its engaging, accessible style and Browne’s warm, personal approach. She demystifies astrological concepts by weaving in her own experiences and psychic impressions, which can be both intriguing and comforting for readers already inclined toward metaphysical perspectives. Browne’s interpretations of natal charts, planetary transits, and cosmic cycles are presented as tools for self-discovery and spiritual growth, rather than mere predictors of fate. Her narrative is imbued with optimism, encouraging readers to view astrology as a guide for personal empowerment and transformation.

However, this very approach also represents a significant drawback. Browne’s reliance on intuition and subjective interpretation can leave the book feeling unstructured and at times overly generalized. While her insights are engaging, they often lack the rigor and systematic methodology that might appeal to those looking for a more scientific or balanced treatment of astrology. For readers who prefer concrete, evidence-based guidance, the psychic lens through which Browne views the cosmos might seem too esoteric or even unfounded.

Additionally, the book occasionally veers into repetitive territory, reiterating similar themes and ideas without offering much in the way of fresh perspectives. The psychic element, while a distinctive feature, may also alienate readers who are skeptical of metaphysical claims or who favor a more conventional approach to astrological practice.

Final Thought: Astrology Through a Psychic’s Eyes by Sylvia Browne is an interesting exploration of astrology seen through a distinctly intuitive and spiritual framework. While it provides an engaging perspective for those open to psychic phenomena, its lack of systematic rigor and occasional repetitiveness may limit its appeal for readers seeking a more balanced or scientific analysis of the stars. Overall, it serves as an accessible, if somewhat niche, guide to exploring the cosmic influences on our lives—earning a respectable 3 out of 5 stars.

This was a very fast quick read filled with well done if I might add material!! (Gemini)

I found it very interesting because my ex husband is also a Gemini but very not like one. That’s because he has a very strong cancer cusp!!

I also lean into Sagittarius probably because my dad is one. But I’m rambling so yes I would read this I thought it was great!!

sometimes comes across as a satire and some of the information on specific signs contradict what is said about them elsewhere in the book but overall good

I can't say her portraits of each zodiac sign aren't entertaining, but some of the things she says are so unbelievably specific AND inaccurate, and any good bull-shitter knows better than to get that specific! If you don't know what you're talking about, keep it vague and contradict yourself with every few points you make, so whether or not a person thinks A or B is true, you've validated their reality. As someone who finds value in serious astrological study, anything that goes by Sun Sign alone is going to come across as simplistic and juvenile to me...but in the case of this book, she can't even get the Sun Signs right.

I was disappointed with this one. One's astrology chart is very complicated. She give a judgement to all Leos (for Example). It doesn't work like that. If you want a good astrology chart book, don't get this one.

I've read a few of Sylvia Browne's books and liked them a lot but I was disappointed with this one. With a budding interest in astrology, I thought this book would be an interesting starting point. But even as a beginner, I found this book too simplistic. I was expecting a bit more from her.

Tauruses, however dependable in their patterns and ways can be a bit boring and difficult...(no, its not just an awfully common coincidence)!
