This book is fantastic. As someone who’s breaking the mold in her family so to speak, I’ve read a fair amount of personal finance education over the years. Kim’s book by far is one of the best.
It’s easy to read, engagingly filled with stories from different walks of life, and inspiring. It’s a very human centered, digestible, and confidence building book that I wish was required reading in schools
Talk about taking action! This book gave me the education and confidence to make meaningful changes to my finances that set me and my family up for success.
Also, in a genre that can be mundane, the author’s voice and approach bring lightness and clarity to a serious topic.
Overview The book touches on topics directly related to personal finance, such as developing a healthy perception of money, learning how to distribute money by distinguishing between necessary and additional expenses, investing for the future, and what are the means to own a home. It also includes stories of people with their own unique circumstances to further emphasize on how different expenses are prioritized based on individual situations. Kimberly uses her own experience as well, sharing her financial struggle with paying off her student loans. She explains how changing her perspective on money and making use of what the banks and the government offer helped her make paying debt off more manageable.
My Thoughts As someone who barely has any experience with personal finance, I believe it was the right choice to buy this book. Kimberly takes a more neutral stance rather than pushing her own financial beliefs. At the same time, she is still able to convince her readers by providing proof and clearly explaining her thought process as simply as possible. This left me with a good impression instead of feeling overwhelmed by the information I was about to learn. For that, I give her a 5/5. I believe her book is a stepping stone toward my financial success, especially since this review is coming from the perspective of a high school student. She taught me things that school has never taught me (and probably will not unless legislation about financial education gets passed).
