A really really really in-depth look at discourse analysis. The book includes numerous examples of discourse analysis. I read this book for a discourse analysis class where the professor would actually read entire pages out of the text. The professor thought this was the best book ever on the subject.

I would say that it is a bit too detailed and in-depth. The vast amount of information that was covered was a bit overwhelming.

Gag me with a flippin spoon. This book is wordy and difficult to follow without making any salient points. Far overpriced. It really wasn't worth a cent that I (begrudgingly) paid for it.

This is a great introduction to discourse analysis designed for upper level undergraduates but also useful for graduate students in other disciplines who just want to get the lay of the land. It has good discussion questions sprinkled throughout each chapter, making it a useful textbook, lots of suggestions for further reading, and a useful glossary.

How can I not love this book? This book is the first step for me to understand that linguistics could be applied in daily life. Each of single small activities/conversation/text in daily life. Mark that.
The examples written in this book are confusing and complex, but impressive.

I personally believe that this book doesn’t work quite well for beginners. This is the book that was used in my first discourse analysis course and it was extremely confusing. It seemed almost as if it was meant to target people who probably had prior background and some information about DA. I did not like it one bit, the glossary was quite poor too i really really appreciate glossaries and this book was disappointing.
