Sylvia Browne was an American author and self-proclaimed psychic who built a lucrative career through books, television appearances, and psychic readings. Known for her frequent guest spots on The Montel Williams Show and Larry King Live, she claimed to communicate with angels, spirit guides, and the deceased, and said she had psychic visions from the age of three. In 1986, she founded the Society of Novus Spiritus, a Gnostic Christian church, and ran a variety of businesses, reportedly earning millions annually. Browne wrote over 40 books, many of which were bestsellers, and maintained a dedicated fanbase throughout her life. However, her career was marked by controversy. She made numerous high-profile predictions about missing persons and criminal cases that were later proven false—errors that drew widespread criticism and scrutiny from skeptics and media outlets. A 2010 study by the Skeptical Inquirer concluded she had not been accurate in any verifiable case. Her reputation suffered further after her 1992 conviction for securities fraud. Despite criticism from figures like James Randi and John Oliver, Browne retained a devoted following. Her vague prediction about a “pneumonia-like illness” spreading around 2020 drew renewed attention during the COVID-19 pandemic. She remained a polarizing figure—revered by some, discredited by others—until her death in 2013 at the age of 77.
I didn't find this book of meditations helpful at all. I've always learned that meditation is best done simply. Focus on one word, or breathing, or just simply watching your thoughts go by, disconnected from them but observing, and continuing to draw back to one focal point. These meditations are very complicated visual cornucopias which don't seem to have much coherence to them. There is no way I could remember all the things that I'm supposed to be visualizing after reading these meditations. Just now, as I sit down to write this review, I see that Sylvia Browne is a psychic and her meditations are based on her church, the Society of Novus Spiritus. I don't know what that is, so obviously I had no idea what I was getting into when I bought this book.
This is truly a lovely book of various guided meditations that would be nice to read, record and listen to when needed. You can simply read the meditation, but I am going to record them myself so they can become guided. Fantastic weekly practice or to just open and journey to and with. This is meant for those that already meditate although just reading the guided passages can bring you to a place of peace and relaxation. Depends on where you are at.
A wonderful book for those who already know how to put themselves in a state of mind for meditating. Lovely meditations, that make you feel alive, rejuvinated, and you come away feeling better about the person you are, and the soul that inhabbits your body. Beautiful pages bound with beautiful words. Once again, Sylvia Browne shares her love and knowledge with people who need it.
Shutting things out like people at work when their talking to me and I already know what their going to say I just take myself to a blue room. I don't allow no one to send negativity towards me it relaxes me and lets me go on about my buiness
I love this book - I just pick it up from time to time to give myself a good visual picture when meditating. I am thinking of recording them with my voice so that I can listen to them while meditating.
