I truly enjoyed this book. My maiden name is Franks and my family is from the area where Charlemagne reigned. It was a fascinating time in history where most people still held to pagan beliefs and lacked law and order. Charlemagne changed this for Europe. His methods were not always the best and I disapprove of a lot of his tactics in war and how he treated his family, yet you have to admire all his accomplished in such a short amount of time and his dedication to duty and his faith.
