JIGGY is an entertaining, thought provoking book which looks into the life of a thirteen year old boy forced to adjust to his new environment. Gerald(the main character) encounters many obstacles which becomes a rite of passage leading him from adolescence toward adulthood. Everyone can relate to the growing pains involved when seeking acceptance amongst peers. The only qualified thing that can teach Gerald will change his outlook on life forever. Gerald must now decide what is important within his life.
I remember reading this in elementary school and adoring it. This book is amazing and can send messages to young children. The book is about a young man named Gerald who has a rich, tawdry friend named Steve. Gerald is a regular boy who doesn't wear designer clothes while Steve wears clothes that Gerald wishes he had. Gerald calls the clothes "jiggy" which means cool. Gerald enters a contest which he wins a bonanza of money and is exhilarated about it. He learns that being flashy and rich doesn't really get you ahead in life, and you must be yourself. I'd recommend this book to people who have the same situation as Gerald.
This book is about a boy who was good at basketball. He would always where old clothes that no one would were in that school. He was jealous of this boy named Steve. He would always be matching with the best clothes. He would say he was "Jiggy". The dad didn't know it really meant cool. So he teamed up with the cool boy on the project. It turned out that the cool boy was jealous of him because he got too stay with his family and and he didn't. So the regular boy entered a contest to win so money but when he knew that the boy was jealous of him he realized not to be jealous of other people.
I learn that it doesnt matter what you wear or what kind of stuff you have on. What matter is your personalities, your education, and more. I also learn that you dont have to be cool to get a girlfriend or boyfriend, is just your personalities if they like it or not. This book teaches you many things like, you dont have to be popular or anything to get a girlfriend or boyfriend or to get friends, just be your self.
