Written by prominent professor and skilled interpreter Charles Cousar, An Introduction to the New Testament provides a concise overview of the content and purpose of the books of the New Testament within the context of the church's early development. This cogent introduction gives serious attention to the history of earliest Christianity but always returns to the texts' theological meaning and significance, highlighting the relevance of these books for the church today.
This is a very fine concise introduction to the NT written by a scholar from my Alma Mater. It strikes me as being written from a moderate stance, and by focusing more of the finished product of the cannoncial NT and not dwelling on a lot of contentious textual critical issues-- it can be a source of good nuggets and study for people across the spectrum of theological views. It currently is available for 0.99$ on christianbook.com; that is a steal for someone who is trying to build up their library.
