Truly beautiful plates of the many dishes. The serving dishes are so artistically matched to the food. The book begins with the history of kaiseki, derived from the tea ceremony in Zen monasteries. It then goes through the twelve months of the year explaining the holidays and the changing foods. There is a good description of the many traditional courses at the end.

I am sorry I never had kaiseki on my trip to Japan. One of the many things to go back for.
