From DK's top-selling crafting author, Jane Bull, Made By Me contains more than 30 homespun craft projects for young crafters. The book is divided into three sections, on knitting, sewing, and embroidery, and each one begins with a primer on basic techniques and stitches. Then lots of simple and sweet projects help children master needle skills while making bags, dolls, bracelets, hats, and more. Kids will love giving their creations as gifts, or keeping them to enjoy!
This book as well as the Art School book are really wonderful books.
Criteria for craft books
1. Must be in color/photos 2. Easy step by step instructions 3. Cuter than kawaii projects 4. I'm gonna have to buy it for my school.I love it so much!
Cute and clever little girly craft book. Aimed toward kids, this slim volume could also serve as inspiration to get started with some little something! Plentiful with photographs, pink dominates the color scheme and explanations are abbreviated.
I bought Made by Me as a companion book to Crafty Creatures by Jane Bull. The pictures and projects really appeal to the ‘little girl’ in me. Although it is clearly geared toward little girls, older children and/or adults could easily complete many of the projects. Colorful embroidered pouches, lavender or dried herb bags, pocket lockets are a few of the projects that would make great gifts. Very basic embroidery, sewing and knitting instructions are included with clear pictures and directions. This is not a book for anyone looking for advanced skills or projects, probably including children. It’s perfect children who are beginners, and for adults whose ‘inner child’ is looking for a sweet treat.
What there is in this book is pretty good for a child beginning to sew, the illustrations are, as with all DK books, beautiful and colourful. The instructions for each project is clear and easy to follow. The book covers equipment, embroidery, cross stitch, tent stitch, buttons, sewing projects and knitting, all the projects are really cute. I just would have liked a bit more, it wouldn't keep my young one enteratined for long.
A fantastic learning to sew book and a great introduction to a variety of crafts. Easy but elegant projects for school age children. My 6 year old daughter has started with the cupcakes and is keen to do more. Beautifully photographed and laid out, with clear easy to follow instructions. The projects themselves look scrumptious and there is not one we wouldn't like to do. I will be getting more copies to give as gifts.
A cute craft book aimed at kids, but it lacked actual projects. The instructions were very general, and while I like that it teaches the techniques, I would have liked to see more specifics. Instead, it's a lot of general information about a lot of general craft topics. What is there is appropriate for the intended age group, though, which can be hard to find.
I just like to window shop craft books, it seems. I have no intention of making any of these things, but it was fun to look at.
Very very very girly. For those looking for a cheap craft program, the knitting with your hands project would be perfect. Ingredients include yarn & "your fingers."
awesome classic Jane bull.. i have made the cupcakes with my 4&6 year olds and they were delightfully simple. I also really enjoyed myself..which as a Mum doing new crafts..with pointy and sharp things.. is a HUGE bonus. Lovley book! Actually might go and make myself some more too:)
What a fantastic craft book, I purchased this for my dd aged 8 to teach her crafts. Wonderfully illustrated technique and projects. We have learned so much together from this great book.
If you have a little crafter in the house this is a great book. I even found a couple ideas for a big crafter! This book covers most the basic needle crafts with great projects. DK does it again.
