Video games, food, and sleep. These are the priorities, in that order, of Ethan MacManus, a twenty-something gaming enthusiast with a low tolerance for work, and a penchant for making up his own rules. Anything goes as Ethan and his best friend Lucas deal with life, pop culture, obnoxious customers, and more games than there are minutes in a day. Introducing the first collection of the much-sought-after webcomic, Ctrl+Alt+Del! Hillarious, sarcastic and funny in all respects, this collection includes 130 strips dating back to the epic beginning of the series.
Some humor is (very) dated, but the comic still holds up nearly two decades after it began. It's so nostalgic to be immersed in this zany world again, and I wouldn't mind more time here.
CAD is by far my favorite web comic. I used to have the first three of the print books, but lost them (or maybe lent them out and never got them back). So when I got the bug to re-read them and own them again I was a little surprised when this showed up in a different format than I remembered. This one was full paged and had no commentary, where as I remembered it being manga sized and having commentary on each page (as well as the art work being cleaned up more). So as much as I liked the comic, I kind of feel disappointed by what felt like poor delivery, knowing there is a better edition out there somewhere.
Although this book had one of the funniest things ever on the legal page above the ISBN and publisher info. It says, "If you survive the zombie apocalypse and I don't, make sure that future generations know Han shot first." Brilliant.
I like this webcomic a lot, and so I'm happy to have a print collection, which also doubles as a way to throw some money the creator's way...
But it seems like Buckley bucks the tradition of webcartoonists to offer up extras in their print collections, not even the commentary on the strips that many do. Compared to the collections of Girls With Slingshots, Wondermark, Penny Arcade and others, this is pretty bare bones.
If you have any love for Penny Arcade you owe it to yourself too check out C+A+D. Tim Buckley has created an ode too all things gaming full of laughs. I highly recommend seeking out this great web series and getting the books.
You have to be generous with this volume; Buckley was a lot younger when he started this series. I love this webcomic--it's got some of the most captivating plots and characters of any I read, and is one of the few I've stuck with for years--but again: early work.
I thought I would like this but sfor some reason I didn't. I think this will get better and better, but the start is just a bit too boring for me and I'm not that patient.
