Alright, so here's the deal: this is a murder investigation novel in which there is about 15 pages of actual investigation, and by that i mean the detective getting statements from people.
80% of this book is just telling us a really twisted story of how it might or might not have happened. Which could be an interesting approach if it wasn't about family members who loathe each other with a passion. That's it, that's what the book is about: people who quietly hate each other. It's very tedious to read, and if you're a least bit emphatic, will leave the reader with a gloomy, unpleasant feeling. Also, it's a vivid (and gross) tale of consensual sibling incest.
I also found none of the characters sympathetic, including both the victim and the detective (who's barely there anyway, so that doesn't help.
I thought the ending was rushed and random, especially since
Lastly, it might not be fair, but this book was written in 1987 and much of the time spent with the detective is about people being surprised or uncomfortable about the fact that she's a woman, and that bugs me because it's overdone, and not relevant anymore. So, yeah, maybe not fair, but i was just like "yeah, yeah, we get it she's a lady-cop, move on."
I'll still read the next two, if only because i own the third, but i don't know. At least it won'T follow the same family.

A book from an author you love that you haven't read yet.

Premier roman mettant en vedette Maud Graham. Le style d’écriture est différent de tous les romans policiers que j’ai lu (il date quand même de 1987). J’ai trouvé la fin un peu précipitée, mais je n’avais pas deviné le tueur ce qui est bon signe!
