I really love demon masks—such a cool and unique unicorn! His hair style is incredible. In this book, Soko and Akira discover a way to stop the demons by finding all four refuges. By the end, Akira unlocks the true power of Byakko, and his strength skyrockets. My protagonist has become so much stronger!
We get a new goal of finding the other sacred areas until they discover the Oni's to destroy it. I think the solution to the Oni is a neat one having them die by extinction as they can't reproduce and will be hunted to death (which will probably come across Soko's mind and change somehow into converting them into humans again). The dog unicorn also ends up tagging along. The action is still fun, the setting and general writing has fun spookiness, and the romance between Soko and Akira is grand especially now that they're sorta acting out about it because of the terrible incest sister. The series is definitely coming towards an ending but it's keeping the tension and allowing itself time to get there to allow for actiony and romantic fun. The ending with Akira getting his full Byakko powers is interesting and tense with its lead up. It seems like Akira cant go all out just yet as he doesn't want to kill Soko. but it'll be hard to make Soko not the Souryo without Takao noticing and taking advantage. I expect a LOT of romantic tension in these last two volumes as Soko and Akira struggle to stealthily do the deed and achingly wait beforehand to not alarm Takao and the Suzaku.
