The Good News File: Hope for a Modern World

Rate this book
Life has its problems and there are a lot of unhappy people in the world. Every day we face challenges in our jobs, home, family, and personal life. There may be bad things happening but there are also good things that happen on a regular basis. Every day we have a choice about what we think about, be it good or bad. If we focus our thoughts on the good, we will lead successful and healthy mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual lives. If we focus only on the bad we end up depressed and unhappy.

This is a book about hope. It's a collection of inspirational stories and quotes that have helped me through the tough times and will hopefully help you as well. It will also show you the power of the human mind and positive thinking, where whatever you focus on can become a physical reality.

The story behind the book drew me in. Over the course of 50 years, the author collected memories, thoughts, and quotes that encouraged him. He called them his Good News File because he would flip through these memories when he needed a lift.

In his retirement, Mickleson spent two years writing a book inspired by his own Good News File he hoped would bring encouragement to a world that desperately needs it. He was right. It's a thoughtful, encouraging work that includes original thoughts from the author mixed with quotes and stories from others.

I think it would make a great gift for someone in recovery or someone you want to encourage, just because.

Where has this book been all my life?

I absolutely loved The Good News File! It has quickly become one of my favorite reads. The writing is so well-done, and it feels like every page holds hidden gems of wisdom. I’m truly grateful that the author reached out to me – I immediately purchased it after reading the sample on Kindle, otherwise, I might have missed out on this treasure.

This is one of those books that I’ll remember for a long time. It’s not just another self-help book—it’s a life manual that touches on every important aspect of living. The author’s thoughtful approach to life’s many areas—wisdom, common circumstances, business, personal relationships, marriage, parenting and more—makes it feel like the wisdom you’ve been searching for all along.

Highlights:
1. Holistic lessons: The book draws from 50 years of life lessons, offering wisdom from some of the greatest minds.
2. Practical advice: From business to personal life, every page is filled with short, direct teachings you can apply.
3. Relationships (tackling finding the right one, marriage, parenting and coping up with divorce): Insightful tips and reflections on relationships and family dynamics that resonate deeply. Some are not applicable to me yet as I don't have it my list but it's a very good idea to have, it's always great to learn new things in different aspects.
4. Life-changing reflections: The way it’s written encourages deep reflection on how you live and approach your goals.
5. A manual for life:It’s more than just a book of hope; it’s a guide on how to live fully, with purpose and clarity.

Why you should read it:
1. Incredibly relatable: Whether you’re navigating your career or your personal life, this book offers practical advice to help you grow.
2. Impactful writing: The writing is clear and to the point, making each lesson easy to absorb and apply.
3. A treasure trove of wisdom: Never have I highlighted so many key passages since reading The Almanack of Naval Ravikant. This book is filled with timeless truths. It's great to have a book that quotes some of my great reads and my favorite classics, self-help and business books.

What I want to remember:
1. The gems of life are often hidden in the everyday moments. The wise know how to find them.
2. A life well-lived is built on small steps that create massive impacts over time.
3. In marriage, in business, and in life, the principles remain: lead with integrity, speak with purpose, and never stop learning.

This book is worth every page and will leave a lasting impression on anyone looking for direction and purpose in life. I highly recommend it!
