Pitch perfect book for younger readers. Like stumbling on a wild adventure right outside your doorstep; and if I was going on an adventure, Caldecott's characters are just the sort of people that you'd want at my side. Brilliantly funny and wonderfully sensitive and Elen balances these perfectly. Clever characters match a very clever plot, which kept me guessing until the end; something which hasn't happened in a while.
Would recommend for the young and the young at heart. If you like Cottrell Boyce, you'll love this!

A pleasure to read. It's a children's book about coping with grief, well written, sad in places and ridiculously funny in others.

A quick and easy read, definitely for younger children--years 3 & 4 maybe?
I found this book very aesthetically pleasing. The cover was bright and cheerful, and the chapters were set out in a pretty way. However, the actual story at times seems a little crazy.
Reading the acknowledgements, I read that Caldecott based this story on an article she read in the paper. I found that quite far fetched...

I first read this when I was eleven and I had forgotten about it, but it popped up on Amazon and I remembered how much I enjoyed it!

This is so clever and funny, just an all round great, sweet read that will make you laugh no matter how old you are.
I plan on re-reading it soon as it was less than £2 on Amazon Kindle, and around £5 in paperback, so cheap for such a good story!

Quite an interesting story. I was surprised that it is based on a true-life story. I imagine kids would love this book, especially as it deals with issues that people dont really like to talk about much (bereavement).

I loved it :)
Beautiful story, well written, nice references, and above all, Kirsty reminded me very much of myself when I was a kid. (Oh well, cross out the last five words...^^)

Good book for my F.L.O collection. Kirsty is dealing with the death of her granddad in an unorthodox way.

This book is so fun! The main character and her siblings are so lovely! I love how the story went from the start to the end!
