Chrno Crusade, Vol. 1

On one particular mission, they meet a young girl with a beautiful voice named Azmaria, who is being targeted by her own stepfather. Quick thoughts: There great characters and concepts lying at the core of the over the top demon fighting nuns trappings, which honestly are pretty fun themselves. Enjoyed this just as much as I did starting the anime when I watched several years ago.

everyone has a weird anime they really loved in high school that no one else even gave a thought to... this was mine. i'm re-reading the manga now. :)

Le New York des années 1920. Des légions de démons remplacent les gangsters. Pour les arrêter, les exorcistes de l'Ordre de Magdalène missionnent un duo pour le moins original : la Sœur Rosette Christopher et son assistant Chrno.
Des graphismes sublimes et clairs servent de purs bijoux de personnages et une intrigue vraiment originale. En effet, c'est une époque et une situation géographique peu traitée (à ma connaissance) dans les mangas.
Entre la maladresse et le franc-parler de Rosette et la tempérance étonnante de Chrno, j'ai été ravie de suivre cette première aventure. Un superbe tome d'introduction qui recèle sa dose de mystères et donne vraiment envie de lire la suite.

A very good start. I like the angel lore and the snippets of real-world events (like the prophecy) that inspired the storyline. Rosette is pretty great as well, so far.

This is one of my favorite manga series. I'm glad I'm rereading it again, it's a beautifully written and illustrated manga series. Not too short, not too long!!

reelectura 2021. A este manga le tengo especial cariño ya que fue de los primeros animes y mangas que lei (manga que deje inconcluso) aun recuerdo que fue de los primeros y el unico manga que logre comprar completo..
La premisa que nos ponen es bastante usada, una exorcista que lucha contra los demonios. Al ser el primer tomo nos presentan los personajes principales y algunos de los secretillos. (chrono bb te amo)
en lo personal no es tan atrapante como otros mangas que e leido pero sigue siendo un fav de mi kokoro.

Die gesamte Reihe ist spitze, ich habe schon viele Manga gelesen, aber Chrno Crusade wird immer mein persönlicher Liebling bleiben.

Acerca de Chrono Crusade
Bien, siguiendo la calle de la nostalgia y la compra de revistas, recuerdo cuando compre una revista de Conexión Manga con DVD donde venía un artículo de esta obra y en el DVD tenemos el Opening y el Ending del anime y yo me piqué, me llamo mucho la atención, me gustaba mucho el dibujo, me intrigaba que estuviera ambientada en los años veinte y tenía cierta simpatía por Chrono. Pasaron unos días, conseguí la serie y me encantó, Chrono es mi personaje favorito de esta obra y Rossette es muy admirable; es graciosa, bien locochona, alegre y definitivamente vive al límite, también pertenece al grupo religioso exorcista cazademonios más grande de...EUA...porque la historia se desarrolla ahi (en el 1er cap. estrella un barco en la isla de la Estatua de la Libertad🙈😂).
Rossette es la monjita rebelde que del gpo cazademonios y Chrono es ni más ni menos que su demonio acompañante, compañero y mejor amigo; se conocieron en peculiares circunstancias y ahora están en la misión de encontrar al hermano de Rossette: Joshua, quien fue arrebatado de su lado hace 4 años y ahorita está en poder de Aion, el demonio malo de la historia y además era el mejor amigo de Chrono y comparten un turbio pasado (demonios al fin y al cabo).
El anime lo ví creo en el 2004 (hace mil años) y aunque me enteré que del manga ya no pude conseguirlo... hasta estos días🤩

Bien, el manga me gustó mucho, no es largo, así que es fácil de leer y fácil de terminar...tanto así que odie que fuera tan corto, necesitaba más de las locuras de Rossette y su banda.
En la historia además de ver a Rossette y varios sacerdotes y religiosas, y apresar de tener a Chrono, que es todo un demonio, no se tocan como temas tabúes, si se toma como una historia y sin buscarle el hilo negro, es bastante disfrutable.
Por alguna razón me recordó un poco a Tokyo Babylon, pero sin tanta toxicidad.
Los personajes son muy interesantes y tienen mucho crecimiento, hay niños prodigios que los demonios les llaman "apóstoles" Rossette tiene gran magnetismo que se consigue rodear de personas increíbles, mientras está tras Joshua, poco a poco va descubriendo las respuestas a los sucesos ocurridos en el pasado.
Chrono y Rossette están unidos por un lazo más fuerte que la amistad: tienen un contrato donde Chrono ayuda a Rossette y para poder usar sus poderes debe usar el tiempo vital de su contratista😱 esto se ve reflejado en un reloj y cuando las manecillas lleguen a las 12, se habra acabado el tiempo de Rossette, el reloj sirve como nexo y mientras más poder use Chrono, menos energía vital le queda a Rossette, por eso Rossette al contar con tiempo limitado no puede detenerse a pensar las cosas...y por eso a veces termina con desastrosos resultados...ahora que lo pienso, creo que por contar con tiempo limitado es que el manga se me fue como el agua y yo quería más...ok no😓
Por favor, denle una oportunidad al manga (creo que el anime también se puede conseguir).

I haven't read this since the series ended years ago when the last volume released in June of 2004. Rereading it brings bac such fond memories - I can even smell the Barnes & Noble where I would read manga whenever I could. Now as a 29 year old, I can honestly say it's like meeting an old friend all over again.
It's interesting to see how far manga has come in the years that have gone buy, this series will be 20 years old next year! ADV was the publisher of Chrono Crusade and I'm so surprised that some of the original Japanese text is still in the volume I purchased! And it has Furigana! Perfect if you're learning Japanese, but it's scattered in the volume.
I didn't realize as a kid how fast-paced this single volume went! It's like an action film! Just "wham!" and "bam!" Rosette is as lovable and inspiring as ever! She holds a special place in my heart.
So the story, it's an interesting set up. What with using America in the roaring 20's with demons, angels, biblical prophecies. I remember the English dub of the anime specifically using 20's slang, cursing, and making sure the VA's had accents to the area the story takes place specifically in the states -specifically in the New York area. I'll have to rewatch after I've read the series again. The real plot of the manga isn't really shown until at least volume 2 if memory serves me right, as this first volume is an introduction to our cast of characters, and our main cast of Rosette, Chrono, and Azmaria - our last member doesn't come in until volume 3. I can't wait to walk down memory lane some more.

Krásná kresba, která si po celou dobu držela svoji kvalitu. Bylo dost překvapující, že hezky vypadala již od začátku, což se moc nevidí. A líbilo se mi, že z démonů udělala oškliváky, ale asi ani neměla jinou možnost, protože kdyby byli hezcí, tak by je nemohla zabíjet, kdy se jí zachce. Což se i potvrzuje tím, že hlavní démoni vypadali hezky.
Příběh mě moc nebavil, protože jsem se nemohla nějak vžít s postavami. Dokonce ani hlavní hrdinové mě moc nezaujali, ale je faktem, že mě ze všech charakterů zaujali nejvíce.
Objevovala se i zde poměrně ohraná klišé, které jsem opravdu četla již několiksetkrát. Naštěstí to byl zrovna ten typ, jenž mi zas tak tolik nevadí.
Přiznávám, že jsem moc příběh nepobrala. To kam se ubíral, mi přišlo divné a nudné. A vše co se zde odehrávalo taktéž. (Možná to je tím, že si to už moc nepamatuji, jelikož jsem lenoch a tohle píšu deset dní po přečtení, že?)
Očekávala jsem i nějakou romantickou linku mezi Rossetou a Chronem (Nechápu, proč se nejmenuje "Chrono" jako čas a ke všemu by se to i lépe vyslovovalo a pamatovalo :D)A nic moc se mezi nimi nestalo. Maximálně jsem se dozvěděla tragický backstory Chrona a jeho bývalky. :D Možná je to dobře, ale jelikož mě příběh celkově moc nebavil, tak je tu šance o pozvednutí na lepší úroveň.
Oceňuji poměrně originální myšlenku, která mě i zaujala, ale očividně ne na tolik, aby to zlepšilo můj pohled na tuhle sérii. Koncept s hodinami, reprezentující váš zbývající čas a výměna životní síly (:P) za moc, se mi líbil, jelikož se nikdo nestal přesílený jen proto, že se to zrovna hodilo.
U obálek mám konfliktní pocity. :D Opravdu se mi líbí, jak jsou nakreslené a co je na nich vyobrazené, ale hrozně se mi nelíbí ta barevná kombinace. :D Teda až na šesté volumko, tam je to celkem v pohodě.

Partway through this I started to wonder if I ever finished the anime and having finished this now... I think I did not. Because literally past chapter like 40 I was lost. I think maybe I got to the part with the Magdalene, but in my memory that was still Rosette.
This kind of has a Trinity Blood, Vol. 1 vibe, with the nun being partnered with a demon/vampire. And Rosette and Joshua are kind of giving Aya and Aki from Ceres: Celestial Legend, Vol. 1: Aya.

Nel mezzo del cazzeggio estivo, ho beccato per caso questo anime in tv. Poi, non contenta, ho cercato un po' in giro e ho letto che molti hanno preferito il manga. E così ho deciso di provare (sperando vivamente che il finale sia meno drammatico di quello dell'anime).
Direi che conviene fare una recensione completa dopo aver letto l'ultimo volume, ma il primo numero non mi è dispiaciuto - certo, sarà pure un peccatore, ma Chrono ha la pazienza di un santo per stare dietro all'esuberanza e agli sbalzi d'umore di Rosette!

Get the tissues ready because you are in for a roller coaster ride of emotions. Chrono Crusade is literally a perfect blend of action, world building, and character development. Because of this, with each volume read, it just keeps getting better up until the climax. With a definite beginning, middle, and end (basically wasn't cut short like many manga today).
Just give the 1st two volumes a try before passing judgement or dropping it.

The characters start not fully fleshed out.
Chrno keeps using his powers and suddenly he's concerned when Rosette uses them?
They don't seem to care about one another in the beginning because of it.
Also that damn trope that physical abuse is so funny.
Thankfully I know the writing and characters get better.

Une lecture qui ne l'as pas fait pour moi, j'ai trouver les graphismes trop agressif et parfois j'étais même perdu.
Malgré ça nous avons quand même des personnages attachants, histoire de fond intéressante si on s'y mets bien.
J'ai bien aimée être plonger dans les années 40-50
Pour ma part je ne continuerais pas cette saga.

There are interesting ideas in here, but, at least so far, the pacing is horrendous. I like action, but I’m not a fan of just being thrown into it without much of a context or breathing room.
I was really looking forward to reading this series after seeing it recommended, but, unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be continuing with it.

it was a charming beginning for a nice story, i really like the concept and apart from being a respectable and faithful Sister, Rosette is also super funny and cute ^^ this manga gave me some steampunk vibes. I am super curious about the next volume!

I love how consistently detailed and good the artwork for this manga is.
It's a nice well paced introduction to the pair of Rosette and Chrono as a demon fighting exorcist team.
Admittedly nothing genre or ground breaking but very solid all around.

I watched the anime recently and absolutely loved it. So far, the manga seems to parallel the anime events almost exactly (though it does apparently diverge later, a la classic early 2000s anime style...). Rosette is a delightfully feisty protagonist, and Chrno is the sweetest little demon that ever lived. I adored the characters and story in the anime and I know I'll love it again in the original manga!

Había olvidado lo mucho que me hace reír Rosette. Hay algunas sobre el guion de este numero que no se muy bien si es porque de verdad hay partes que no tienen sentido, o si es por una mala traducción (Apuesto 3 pesos por la segunda opción), pero sin duda es un numero entretenido de introductorio, planta las semillas necesarias para que sigue con la curiosidad de que es lo que esta por venir.
Leí este manga hace 10 años, igual que naruto, así que no recuerdo el 80% de lo que pasa, pero recuerdo haber llorado un poco en los últimos números, así que supongo que el asunto se pone mejor.
