Compiled by a group of historians and officers, this sweeping history of the often overlooked branch of the military discusses the full range of Coast Guard history, from the nation's first lighthouses to its role in the current wars on drugs and terrorism.
This, is a treasure that I own. The compilation of photos, narratives, and exposition is immaculately ordered and woven together. There's a reason so many copycat versions for the other services now populate the on-sale reference book section at Barnes and Noble. Various authors all sharing their insight on topics they are passionate about, with plenty of input from Coasties themselves writing. My imagination runs wild every time I open this tome, I'm very thankful to have it.
