I didn't find the grammar and syntax in very good shape, but the book is an interesting exploration of Mark Twain's late 20s. We learn here how Mark got his name - from owing money on his bar tab (mark twain means "mark two.) Mark (Sam Clemons) is my second cousin four times removed, so how can I not learn anything about this national icon? Clemons is both intense and humorous. He was lazy physically but started his career as a miner. He then launched his writing career in Virginia City, as a reporter. He is an interesting character with interesting friends.

This is a fun book about Samual Clemens; a.k.a. Mark Twain, and his life in Virginia City, NV, California and the West. Filled in and supported by excerpts of letters and newspaper articles from the time, it exposes the reader to the young Mark Twain and gives an alternate explination to how his moniker came about. The book traces Twain's experiences and mentors, which led him into being a great American author and humorist.
