If it weren't true--mostly--it would have made a great Western novel. Henry has fleshed out what is known about the life of Isom Dart/Ned Huddleston, artfully filling in the gaps and making what might have been fictions about this remarkable character's life seem like they could have been true. By taking us not quite to the end of his actual story and depicting Dart's ignominious assassination, Henry provides a very satisfying story of a wild, wide-open era in our nation's history. (That's me by Isom Dart's grave, by the way...)

It was sort of interesting for the first couple of chapters. Then it went down hill, and kept going down hill, as far as I'm concerned. I suspect it's a book that would appeal more to men. I think my father would have liked it. I read almost to the middle, then just couldn't take it any more. I didn't finish it.
