The New Jew is the story of an unexpected road to conversion, from first invitation to temple, through encounters with rabbis that left her feeling angry and alienated, to the irresistible warmth of Jewish friends and family who drew her in with their exuberance.
Sally Srok Friedes has been a guest speaker about the road to her conversion at temples on both coasts. She has written for parenting publications, appeared on television, hosted satellite tours, and worked as a panelist on a radio program. Her first book, The New Jew: An Unexpected Conversion, will be published May 29, 2009. "
I enjoyed hearing Sally Friedes (a native of my home state who spoke in Milwaukee) talk as much (if not more) than I enjoyed her book. I'm glad someone isn't afraid to share her voice!!!
Good look at how one converts from one faith to another. Growth of one's faith and how one changes their mindset about things one holds fast too in life.
Heard the author on the radio. The Goodreads description of this book is one of the weakest I have seen. Go to Amazon for Editorial reviews and customer reviews for a better idea of what this book is about. A Catholic girl from Milwaukee finds unexpected hope in a new religion...
I really enjoyed this book, especially because Friedes went deeply into her conversion experience. Though she is married to a Jewish husband, she decides to convert of her own motives.
