All it takes is four words and my life is forever changed.

When Oscar calls a staff meeting, no one anticipates the news. The sale of the tattoo shop. Our second home, second family, will be broken. Sold to the highest bidder.

But the biggest shock is yet to come.

The bell over the door jingles and I smooth my hands over my shorts, chastising my attire. Black leather boots step into view. As my eyes drift north, I log each delicious muscle and tattoo.

Our eyes lock and I stop breathing. Jameson Kingsley.
My brother’s best friend.
The guy I crushed on most of my adolescence.
The guy I fantasized about occasionally in adulthood.
And now… my new boss.

Fuck.

Penny by Persephone Autumn is a sweet and lovely novella about Penny Singleton and Jameson Kingsley. It is set in the Bay Area Duet series world so some familiar characters make an appearance. If you have read the Inked Duet about Autumn and Jonas then you will have met Penny because she was Autumn’s best friend, roommate and work colleague. Penny’s life is turned upside down when she meets her new boss. Has fate finally come to give Penny a helping hand in love or to torture her forever?

Penny is full on character with a sassy attitude and pink hair. She owns who she is, loves bubble gum and has never had a serious relationship. She has worked at Oscar’s Tattoo Emporium for the last twelve years and it has become her family. She is very upset at Oscar’s announcement but Autumn reassures her everything happens for a reason. Then in walks Jameson, her brother’s best friend who she has had a crush on for most of her life and announces that he is the new owner of the tattoo shop and will be her boss.

Jameson is so happy at finding out Penny works there and extremely pleased to catch her checking him out before she realised who he was. He’d crushed on her when he was younger and his attraction to her has never really left him. Now all grown up her feisty ways turn him on even more so he flirts with her to see if she feels the same.

Penny can’t believe it’s real and he is interested in her. She had teased Autumn about Jonas and persuaded her to let him in and give him a chance. Now it’s Autumn turn to return the good advice so Penny doesn’t miss out on something great. Could he be the best decision she ever makes? Can she give into her feelings for him?

The banter between them is funny as she taunts and teases him, making him work at persuading her his feelings are true. She can’t see how they could date when they work together. I absolutely loved the rules they concoct to try and keep their hands off each other at the shop. They are both scared because they have loved each other for so long without admitting it so could it really work. Could both their dreams come true? Could he be the king of her heart and she be his queen?

If you have enjoyed Persephone’s Bay Area Duet series then you will be very happy that the Sunday get-togethers, which are a huge feature in the books, are still going strong. In the epilogue everyone gathers for a Friendship meal so I was very pleased to see my favourites again. I’m glad I read this after the Reese novella, as there’s a tiny spoiler to his story. I thought this was a great conclusion to the series as they’re all together, giving us a heart-warming and satisfying ending.
