هذا الكتاب كان من بين الكتب التي اقتنيتها هذه السنة من معرض الدار البيضاء للكتاب، والذي لم يسبق لي أن سمعت به أو بكاتبته أو بالدار التي قامت بنشره، لكنه أثارني رفقة كتب أخرى لنفس الدار بعنوانه وعبر تصفحي الخاطف له وربما بغلافه الجميل فمن يدري. فاقنيته املا أن يرضي ذائقتي وكذلك الأمر كان فقد قربني جدا من الجهاز العصبي ومن آلياته ووظائف أجزائه بلغة سهلة وبترجمة جميلة.

ما يؤخذ على الكتاب هو عنوانه، فمعظم مضمونه يدور حول دماغ الإنسان عموما ولا يتطرق لدماغ التلميذ أو الطفل إلا لماما، كما أن عنوانه الفرعي - دليل للمعلمين والآباء - وسمته النزعة التجارية، فالكتاب غلب عليه الجانب النظري ويكاد يخلو من الحلول العملية، عدا بعض التلميحات لتأثير الكافيين على الدماغ إيجابا وسلبا ومخاطر المواد المخدرة والمنشطة عليه وعلاقة النوم بتطور الخلايا العصبية وأهمية التعرض للمثيرات والعلاقة بين تعلم الرياضيات والموسيقى والأثر السلبي للضغط النفسي على استرجاع الذكريات.

عموما الكتاب راق لي ومنحني رغبة شديدة لمطالعة كتب أخرى لدار المسيرة المهتمة بالمجال التربوي والتعليمي.

This book, a survey of the human brain as it relates to learning, was written for the teacher and parent. Over half the book is cursory explanations that serve no purpose for the non-scientist. The last third of the book covers useful implications for parents and teachers. The last third was worth the price of admission for me, both as a parent of a toddler and an educator of middle school aged children.
