What does it take to live a life of radical faith - a life that can only be explained by God? In Faith Pointes Barbara shares the basic life lessons that make radical faith possible. With stories of victories and failures from her own personal faith journey, you will be encouraged to follow God on this exciting path. Barbara B. Barker is the wife of Dr. Frank M. Barker, Jr., the founding pastor and current pastor emeritus of the 4,000-member Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama. She holds a degree in Speech and Drama from Northwestern University in Chicago, with a minor in English education, and was a pilot. She is a popular Bible teacher and Christian speaker and the co-founder of the Briarwood Ballet School. They have three grown children and eleven grandchildren. Denise Hamilton has led Bible studies for high school and college girls for the past 25 years. She was formerly the associate executive director of finance at University of Alabama Hospital and is currently an instructor of health care financial management at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a CPA and holds an accounting degree from Auburn University and an MBA from UAB. But her true claim-to-fame is making ballet costume headdresses.
Maybe I'm prejudiced because Mrs. Barker has always been a bit of a hero to me, but this book is incredible. Not only is it enjoyable and funny, but the lessons contained in it are extremely useful, important, and simply put.
Mrs. Barker has frequently started telling lots of these stories, but she always remembers that we're in ballet class halfway through her story, so she never finishes them. It was great to finally hear all the endings!
Barbara Barker is the wife of well known Presbyterian pastor Frank Barker; this book is based on a series of talks and Bible studies she developed on the 10 essential truths/principles/practices of the Christian life. Each chapter includes discussion questions as well as Bible study questions. Great "back to the basics" study and warmly written (I just wish it had been better edited...).
I enjoyed this book by the wife of Frank Barker, the long time pastor of Briarwood Pres in Birmingham. Barbara shared many personal testaments of God's faithfulness and provision over her and Frank's lives. This summation of her reflection on life and its lessons as it affects the Christian faith was very interesting and beneficial to my own walk.
Knew her personally growing up at Briarwood church and even took ballet as a preschooler there. Amazing stories of God coming through to provide for her family financially and in many other ways, over and over. An encouragement in my own faith and prayer life. Will likely re-read some chapters or the entire book again.
