About the author

Waldtraut Lewin, born in 1937, studied German, Latin, and dramatics in Berlin. She then worked for several years as the artistic director of the theater in Halle, East Germany. In 1973 she became the scenario editor of the theater in Rostock and started writing. Since 1978, she has published a great number of books for children and juveniles that have won national acclaim. Today, Waldtraut Lewin lives in Berlin.

So I read this knowing that I might not get everything bev´cause I had not read the first part. This was about a young girl who doesnt know much about her past and her family and it all comes up to her in the course of the book. I do not like many of the decitions that were made and this made me dislike the book pretty much.

Die Trilogie sollte man unbedingt kurz hintereinander lesen, ich fürchte mir sind viele Anspielungen auf den ersten Teil entgangen. Großartiges Buch, lauter Wendungen und schockierende Geheimnisse vor einem gut recherchierten geschichtlichen Hintergrund.

An excellent book, telling the story of an introverted misfit teenage girl in Germany (also Jewish) shortly before the onset of the Holocaust, and her bittersweet romance with an aspiring boy of the Hitler-youth. A story strangely akin to love stories of mine that ended tragically I find.
