Earle Alfred Birney was a distinguished Canadian poet and novelist, who twice won the Governor General's Award, Canada's top literary honor, for his poetry.
Very interesting. Some of the poems I didn't like. Others, I liked - especially the love poems. Not because they were love poems, but the way they were written was appealed to my own writing. What was amazing was seeing that Birney was using quite a number of avante guarde techniques, which I wasn't aware they had begun quite so early (about 15-20 years earlier than I was introduced to them in my own writing). It made me look at the collection more intensely.
