Great book. Gives a good look at the military details. I can say it's historically accurate. I mean battles, tanks(Panthers, Ferdinands and both T-34 modifications). The main story line is good and the dog is lovely and smart. I didn't like the end very much because it was some sort of a cliche... Everyone knows that there isn't a happy end in one war story. Still the book is great and i recommend it :)

I grew up with the tvseries but only got around to reading the book this year. Much as I love the series I don't understand why they had to change so much from the book. The book is great, and the series would have been even better had they left some things as they were.

Janek is much more symphatetic in the book, as is Wasyl (Olgierd).

Pity that the "dramatic" ending is the same for both the series and the book, it's the only part I don't like about it. But Magneto's story was a nice surprise, I have no idea why they changed that in the series.

And of course Szarik.=D I'm a bit confused as to what breed he is supposed to be in the book, clearly not a German Shepherd (at least not in the beginning). He's supposed to be smaller than an Alsatian in the first book. Although in the next books he seems to be an Alsatian himself, so the author must have matched it to the tvseries.

Still both the book and the series are top-notch, I'll be returning to both.=)

Szarik skradł całe show. Reszta? Do przeczytania i zapomnienia.

Nie ma co tu wiele pisać.
Serial jest dobrze znany, a książka go fajnie uzupełnia więc i tak warto przeczytać

Cool, I did find this book here. First I read Russian version of the book when I was 17 or 18. Now I've got Azerbaijani translation printed in 1976. Of course, many things are Soviet oriented but the book is really worth reading. English translation is "Four tank-men and a dog" according to Wikipedia. Don't know if there's any English version.
